Glad the ticket could go to good use!
Second viewing and again just as fantastic. However I don't think that energy from the first preview audience will ever be matched.
Having listened to the Hudson/Holliday recordings this week I realise why I love Ambers portrayal so much - she finds areas of subtlety even in "And I Am Telling You" where the others didn't and you can really feel her pain - she knows she's made a big mistake and will live to regret it. Once again I was just in awe during that number, I really hope she can maintain this amazing standard but it must be exhausting for her.

About 5/6 rows back during the interval. Didn't see what happened.

A friend on facebook said a guy went into cardiac arrest at the end of Act 1, but was eventually and thankfully able to walk out with the ambulance/medical staff to a round of applause, so he says!

At least it wasn't more "technical difficulties" at the Savoy!

It's eight pounds. It's souvenir brochure size, but it's not a souvenir brochure per se. It has the black & white rehearsal pictures and some articles, cast list, etc. I think eventually it will evolve into a souvenir brochure cum program like the ones they sold at Chicago in the Adelphi for years.

Programme also has some of the costume designs, which are mostly lovely.

I am really glad I didn't sell my ticket for this now and I can't wait to watch it tomorrow. Love the movie but I know the stage show will be a slightly different beast and I am intrigued to see what it's going to be like.

It would be ironic if they had it on Idol (if it was still running)

Oh my god....... Kinda speechless! 9.5/10 The best show to hit the West End in years. I've never seen a standing ovation mid show before and the energy felt like it was closing night. WOW.... Amber Riley is a superstar. A sensational night with twenty of my fabulous friends. If there's anything you do today people, make sure you book to see this incredible musical. It was one of the greatest musical theatre nights of my life.

Wendy liked it then...
What would it have needed to get the full 10?

Wendy liked it then... What would it have needed to get the full 10? I questioned the casting of two actors, orchestrations, the sound was off a few times (missed mics) and dancing not perfect - but that is being reeeally picky. It is a sensational show.

Saw this yesterday, and it is wonderful. Wendy is right in that there's a real energy. Amber Riley is amazing, and I loved Tyrone Huntley as CC and Adam Bernard as Jimmy particularly. As a huge In The Heights Fan, I was excited to see several cast members and thought Joe Aaron Reid was slick but not quite nasty enough as Curtis, Jocasta Almgil really stood out in the ensemble, but that Lily Fraser struggled. The other dreamgirls were good though. Overall, the cast is superb and the staging and costumes are impressive. So much bling! It's an engaging show and the time flies by, I'm already trying to work out when I can go back. My only real gripe is the legroom in the stalls at the Savoy, I always feel trapped and get my feet trampled on.

Lily Fraser does struggle as does Lissi La Fontaine who plays Deena. She's talented but is the weakest link when she should be the strongest. Beyoncé looked like a star and acted like one. Its the main flaw in this production (amazing though it is)

Yea..I don't know if she did go on for Liisi (she is the first understudy) or if they are just confused. In any way, Lily Fraser, despite her small role as Michelle, struggles.

I really hope Jennifer Hudson sees the show whilst she is in the uk doing The Voice. The film was a commercial success for her so it's be nice to see her visit the stage show

And Jennifer Holliday too. All on the same night. Then they can storm the stage and have an 'And I Am Telling You' sing-off with Amber. I don't think we're ready for that jelly though to be honest.

Its the main flaw in this production (amazing though it is) But surely Deena is supposed to be noticeably inferior vocally to Effie? I think Lissi LaF plays it just right. She has to sound lesser and more poppy when she's in The Dreams, yet she ramps it up for Listen.

Its the main flaw in this production (amazing though it is) I disagree, Deena isn't supposed to be the strongest, Effie is supposed to have a far superior voice and be a true leading lady, whereas Deena's dumped into that role because she's skinny, pretty and Curtis has the hots for her. Having said that, I do think Lissi struggles in Act 1 though, her vocals don't need to be as weak as they are then. I thought she was brilliant in Listen though, she got that one just right and her Act 2 performance is much better than Act 1.
