The house Dreamgirls has been waiting for on Broadway is finally open. So, if the stars line up correctly it might not be gone for long but, you have to get to New York.

Its a shame Jennifer Hudson is too old now for Effie, I'd love to see her reprise her role from the film and get her Tony!
I'm intrigued to see what happens with regards to Amber. I know producers were hesitant for a while because of theatre availability but also because of the role of Effie because of the whole cast issue in London with Amber going from 7 shows a week to just 5 shows a week because that equals major loss of money if she doesn't turn up. I suspect she will do it but there will be a definitive schedule from the get go that she will have to stick too.

Wanted to make a final trip before this closes, so went last night.
Cyber Monday ticket. L1 in the Stalls. Excellent seat. No one in front, good rake and clear view.
Started a few minutes late as they were busy moving people into empty seats. Looked like a lot of upgrades. Stalls were pretty full. There were some people in the Dress. Couldn’t see above that.
This did come across as if it’s lost its sparkle. Getting ready to close,
Karen Mav on as Effie. Good. Reminded why Effie is really such a dislikable character and Karen gets that across well. A few people stood up after AIATY (first time I can remember seeing that). Two people in the row ahead walked out at the start of the song together. They did come back after the interval.
Only cover was Emma Louise Jones as Michelle. Perfectly fine.
Several leads have now left and the understudies been promoted. Ryan Reed as Curtis who I’ve seen before and is always good (decent amount of boos). Sean Parkins as CC (just looked way too old for the part, but they must just be making use of who they have left).
There was a lot of disruption from a group in the rear Stalls, who kept calling out and laughing. I think it was tied to when Deena was on, but I couldn’t work out why. Often at completely inopportune moments. Got especially bad towards the end. I think the ushers said something but it didn’t do a lot.
But somehow this show always attracts bizarre audiences.
I think this will be last visit. It’s a decent enough show, but said to see it in its closing weeks.
Better end by thanking the Savoy box office staff, who I’m sure are the friendliest in the West End.

So does Karen do Monday nights now or was Marisha just out? Don't have much interest in seeing Karen.

I think Marisha has been back home in the US for Thanksgiving for the past week or so. I think Marisha normally performs Monday nights.

I saw the show for the second time today, having seen Marisha’s Effie previously. Karen Mav was on today and her voice blew me away. Her acting was slightly hammy at times, but overall she far exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed Brennyn and Asmeret’s performances as the other Dreams and Curtis and Jimmy Early were good too. I agree with others that it has lost some of its sparkle. I felt some of the supporting actors seemed to be phoning it in and the choreography was a little sloppy at times. Only a small number of people gave a standing ovation, though matinee crowds can be a bit dead. Still an enjoyable show but not at its best.

So I’m seeing the show tonight. Bought a 20 pound ticket months ago for the upper circle, but stalls seem to be heavily discounted now and not nearly sold out. Any chances I could get a free upgrade when I pick my ticket up? Only a single.

They are great at the Savoy though, some of the best I've dealt with in town so I'd say pretty likely, possibly for a small admin fee. Worth asking about for sure.

Just read on theatremonkey’s site that it applies to tickets booked directly with the venue. I booked on SeatPlan since they had options the official site didn’t have. Will I not be eligible for an upgrade? I am just tempted to book a 28 pound ticket on TodayTix for third row since my first ticket was only 20 pounds and don’t mind losing that.

Are you close to the theatre? The earlier you ask, the sooner you can decide about TodayTix.

Found a code that took 10 pounds off! If anyone wants a free ticket to the show tonight in Row E of the Upper Circle on the aisle(or if you so choose maybe pay me in 10 pounds), let me know!

It truly is DreamGIRLS. The talented ladies astounded me, finding something special in each one. Marisha Wallace was nust a force and creates such a likeable presence. The development of Deena is so interesting to watch and Brennyn Lark is such a gift. The men however are less than okay. They truly just weren’t good except Tosh as Jimmy who I quite enjoyed. Overall this isn’t an amazing show but it is very entertaining.

Last year Dreamgirls was very emotional for me and it was much less this year. Maybe I was distracted tonight. Also I absolutely loathed Curtis last time and this time I was like meh. 🤷♀️ I still enjoyed the show though. Marisha was just as fabulous and the audience loved her, as did I. Standing ovation by some after I'm telling you and by everyone at the end, in the stalls.

I saw this just before Christmas and was surprised that they had removed any mention of it being during the civil rights movement, last time there was at least some mention, this time none.

Surprised and sad that there still seems to be offers in its final weeks. Whereas it is hard to get a cheap ticket now for Kinky boots, unlike it was last year. Shame that this show lost its popularity after cast change

I caught the show again for the last time last week. I don't like posting negative reviews (with no positives) so I did not post anything. It is nothing like the show it was. There is no light and shade, hugely overamplified and the principles just scream at each other all evening. My ears were bleeding. The cast changes are all poorer than the originals.
The original cast and show was sensational! I want to be more positive in 2019!!

Nicole Dennis was on The Voice tonight. She sounded amazing and sang a duet with JHud which was on par with her. I never got to see her on as Effie

I forgot it was closing soon, but will be going to the final performance. I was offline for a while, didn't see Joe Aaron Reid leave, damn. He was my fav. Asmeret is my last one standing then!
