my memory clearly isn't what it used to be If you still remember that your memory used to be better, it really can't be that bad, right? Touché!

Listen, all is entitled to their opinion blah blah blah..but I'm cross-eyed reading that people are going "meh" on Amber's killer vocals and yet satisfied with Sheridan Smith's disastrous singing. Not guilty. Sheridan might not have the best singing in the world. But she can act and act well. She has 2 Olivier Awards. She is a terrific talent. I just think Amber cannot.

Lacks "richness". Sounds a bit reedy in parts I might venture! Go large or go home Amber! I thought the exact same thing, it felt a bit lacking in something, no doubt she can sing, but this role needs a richness, something velvety and smooth. She needs to search inside for it, because, for me, this isn't it at all and I'm a little disappointed in all honesty. The understudy, someone mentioned waiting for, are X factor losers, so I wouldn't think they were more capable. Ali, I don't think Sheridan can sing at all and I don't believe she should have been allowed anywhere near those songs and without her name, she never would have.

I just can't help feeling that, given how long everyone has waited for this, they have risked it all on having a named person in the role, instead of just hiring someone who is a perfect fit who is possibly unknown or little known. Watching this, had she auditioned for the role without her name and profile, she wouldn't have made the last cut.
I really don't like the way the theatre is moving, talent alone will not get you the roles you deserve, only profile.

I'm in the 'It was OK' camp and yes she can obviously sing. There's just no variation to it, like she was only focusing on hitting the big notes. I'm sure it'll sound better in person and with an orchestra/experience, but that video just doesn't have the oomph that I was hoping for. So, just like Nicole Scherzinger in 'Cats'. And she got an Olivier nomination out of it.

That might not fit the role as we know it, because we are used to a screamer in the role. Amber is much more of a proper, decent, tidy singer. I think that looking for that screaming quality is not the way for her to go. That will not create richness with her vocal type. I think her richness and emotion comes from toning it down and keeping it elegant and softer.

I'm baffled why people think her voice isnt good enough, or that it should sound like something else. If you want to hear an exact copy of Jennifer Holiday, go listen to the OBCR.
This is the first ever London production, not a broadway transfer. It will be new and different.

As an early performance, I think it's pretty good. Remember, she's singing the song out of context, she (presumably) hasn't yet been in rehearsal for the show, and she's standing right in front of a mic in a relatively small space, so screaming/shouting/belting wouldn't work. She does have a nice tone to her voice, and it's nice to see a performance that's a bit more about the quality of the vocal, rather than the volume.

Her voice is great, it is powerful, she has a huge talent. BUT we have been used to Halliday and Hudson sing these songs. They come from deep within, a soul wrenching rich belt.
Her voice is weak in comparison, but yes she can sing brilliantly.

Amazing news, she was great when I saw her in In The Heights last year! I was wondering who would play Michelle. On here we came to the conclusion that it'd probably be one of the ensemble members previously announced, but I guess not!
Watched the Dreamgirls movie a few days ago for the first time in ages and I really couldn't be more excited!

I loved her in Cats, thought she was a bit dull in In the Heights personally but her understudy who I saw before her Gabriela (who now plays her full time) was sensational and a lot stronger vocally than Lily in my honest opinion. She was fantastic in Cats though, which is tough when you are replacing a Strallen!

I heard that about her later in the run, but I saw ITH in October when it had just opened, and personally thought she was fabulous. I was dreamcasting her as a future Elphaba actually, because I thought her voice was so clear and powerful. I guess it partly comes down to preference at the end of the day. Oh and I also enjoyed her performance in Cats too!

It could have had something to do with her later in the run, I saw her in May before she left (or got fired, I heard rumours...) but she was good in the role, but I was a tad disappointed in the vocals for that role, especially as I loved her in Cats. So I guess seeing her in this will be a nice change and hopefully it is a role I enjoy her in like Cats, more than just finding her good in In the Heights. It is a smaller role so she should be able to find the vocal demands a lot easier.

I had heard the fired rumour from another fan of the show who had heard it from a source within the show. Whether that is true or not I am unsure but when I asked why, apparently it had to do with missing performances etc...

Her voice was sensational when i saw the show in October and she was the one cast member that everyone was praising around me and in the interval. I heard the reports of people finding her ropey later in her run and i can only imagine that her voice became shot for whatever reason as there is no way in my mind people could find her weak if she was in full health and performing like i saw her. I'm pleased she's got this role and i wonder if she will cover for Deena as well? She's suitably glamorous.
I must say this has an excellent cast and i'm very much looking forward to it.

She was my favourite thing about the show first time I saw it in October too. Sensational voice. Was less impressed when I saw her again in April though.
Thrilled for her Dreamgirls casting though, can't wait to see her. This cast is amazing!!

I loved her in In the Heights. Yes, she was struggling vocally towards the end of her run but the first few months of her run as Nina she was wonderful. And I saw her as Eponine in Les Mis years ago and remember being in awe of her voice back then.

I thought she was awful in ITH but that was towards the end of her time there and I wonder if she was having vocal problems because so many people raved about her singing from early in the run. If she's got this role hopefully it means her vocal issues are sorted out, and I'll look forward to seeing her.

Does Michelle have any other moment in the show besides "now hush your mouth hush your mouth miss Effey White..." part? Otherwise as far as I've noticed she's only back up to Dina in the second act.
Anyway, I'm too excited for words about this. Got tickets for the first preview and first performance of the alternate.
