Gonna also chuck in my fave Karen ahah.
I guess when your coming from a pop background, the world of musical theatre world is hard to hold your ground.

I can only comment on Amber in the show. And i only saw her once. I would say her vocals were amazing and flawless and blew everyone away, certainly in the interval that's all anyone was talking about, however i do agree with the comments she could do with putting more emotion into the acting side of the performance, that was something a little bit missing for me. I saw Marisha in The Color Purple concert and emotion wasn't something anyone had to worry about with her, she put every ounce of herself and her effort into the role, so as a performance overall, great, but honestly vocally not for me at all. I would say if you mixed Marisha and Amber together you'd probably have a perfect performer/Effie. I've only seen Amber. As you said, her voice is perfection, truly amazing. From the dress circle though, I got absolutely no performance from her, her eyeline is forever low, so she really doesn't reach back, God knows about those in the God's. I missed something in the performance, as there's so much to play with with Effie.

and back to Marisha
Maybe Amber doesn't do the Weds matinees anymore either?

So, no matter what night or day you go on, there is now absolutely no way tat you can predict which Effie you'll see.
I wonder if this throws Amber's suitability for a Broadway run into question?

I would have thought it definitely does, not least in a culture (NY) where refunds are much more readily arrived at - and ticket prices are also a lot higher. Maybe Amber doesn't care? She can't think this is doing her Stateside reputation any good .....

However talented you might be at your job, one of the prerequisites of the job is to actually turn up for work.

Rohan Richards has been doing Curtis for most of the week as well...Both times I've seen Dreamgirls I had him as Curtis. Definitely got the car salesman smile going, and when I saw the show on Monday he had improved a lot since I saw him in December. The cast schedule seems very strange - it's like a [un]lucky dip

I don't think it will impact on Amber transferring to Broadway, but I think they'll be much more careful with her schedule and only advertise her as doing 6 shows a week, making sure she has several days off in a row...

Well I guess at least no one can complain about under-rehearsed understudies!! 😂
Seriously though the cast 'schedule' for this is virtually non-existent and the sooner they remove the part about Amber doing 7 shows from the website, the better.

So I won a ticket for this evening, however due to Lady Day starting late I subsequently lost it. But because I have two phones and automatically lost on my second phone they offered me cheap seats as a 'thanks for entering'. So now I'm row G stalls.
I wonder who my Effie will be.

I went before Christmas and was treated to four "bonus" performers, including Effie. Would have to dig deep to think of a poorer show I'd seen in the West End.

I'm not suggesting that anyone is inferior. but I think it is naive to suggest that people should have booked might be expecting a certain performer. Groundhog Day. Someone (@posterj) is going to come along and tell me that Amber isn't the star. PLEASE DONT PJ! I HEAR YOU! But I stil don't agree

But I stil don't agree I'm not at all averse to understudies generally & have a great deal of faith in the quality of London performers. I went in blind to Dreamgirls, and even if Amber (whom I do rate) had been there, can't imagine I'd have ever thought it more than a two or three star show. Would never cry about missing a performer, but didn't think the show was strong enough to shine without someone with real star quality there, and with such a degree of absence, the overall impression was ramshackle. Didn't help that we got an announcement from Sonia before curtain, trying to cheer us over and over that they'd "given us the show", when it was a show we had obviously in fact paid for.

This is interesting... I wonder how Wikipedia came to this peculiar conclusion, the recent Effie schedule certainly doesn't reflect this. Funny how it seems to be based entirely on the fact that the word "alternate" was removed from both Karen and Marisha's names on the website. ...interesting.

But I stil don't agree I think she will be on Broadway, where the above the title concept exists . I don't think she is here, but as you wish I'm not going to re-hash the arguments there I certainly don't think people haven't booked expecting a certain performer though, of course they have. Where you and I differ is whether they're entitled to have a sense of entitlement in that regard, that's all!

I booked on the day to see it, and asked the lovely lady on the ATG ticket line to ring the Box Office for me to confirm that Amber was performing that aftermoon as I was desperate to see her! I thoroughly loved the show and thought she was a vocal powerhouse. However I then saw Marisha at West End Live and was so blown away by her that I almost now wish I'd seen her in the role instead! Might end up seeing it again if the pennies allow, but it's sounding a bit of a lucky dip cast lottery at the moment 🤔

So if Amber was off for some time, now she's back on, I wonder what will happen with her holidays that are scheduled from this Friday.
