It says something doesn’t it, that a hotel’s immediate go-to for compensation (shutting down a complaint) is a free breakfast - something that they’re already producing and therefore costs them nothing.

I had a couple of wakes during the night thinking - Connie Francis (raped in her hotel room). My bag on the table which could have been taken in a matter of seconds with my car keys, my credit cards and work credit cards. I could have been in the bath. When I've stayed before there have been students staying - in checking out yesterday there was a coach load of primary school children leaving. What if!! After I'd spoken to reception I went up in the lift with a youngish guy who could see I was in a fury - I said "I've just had a man walk in my room" - he said "the same thing happened to me yesterday, twice in fact, while I was in just a towel". Now, I've no idea if what he said is correct, maybe he thought it'd calm me down or something. I'd booked through Hotels.com as I get a discount with 10 bookings (makes sense when I book for colleagues and myself), and I've told them. I'm thinking I'll tell my brother-in-law - he is Met Police based within Wembley Park. I needed a day to cool off - I don't take pleasure in giving a bad review but Jesus, how much more vulnerable could I be with my pants around my ankles? I needed a bit more of a reaction from Reception than the "sorry sorry have a full english". I think your review on their website and other hotel booking sites will do the trick.

By sheer coincidence, I happened to be in Sainsbury's at the exact time when Mr Kipling French Fancies were being reduced.
Usually £3.00 for eight, I was able to buy 32 of the sweet squares for a grand total of £2.96. The young woman couldn't print the yellow labels fast enough!
Goodness knows why I've got this reputation for being fanatical about fondant fancies? 😙
I just hope I've got room for them in the pantry. It's already home to 30 Cadbury's Creme Eggs.

Today is my birthday.
Yesterday I did a day trip to London to see my friend in Mamma Mia, today I’ve been in rehearsals for the next show I’m directing, been out for a lovely Sunday lunch and now waiting for friends to arrive for a pub quiz.
Birthdays can be a bit rubbish when you’re older but all in all, it’s been pretty nice.

Something happened to me this afternoon that hasn't happened to BurlyBeaR for a very long time. At approximately 3.30pm, a shop assistant in Home Bargain called me a "young man". So there we are. It's now official. If only they sold fondant fancies! And to cap an almost perfect day, I've just been inches away from the lovely Hazel Irvine. She asked for a photograph, but I have a strict no-selfie policy. 😁

Was that the oldest Home Bargains employee in the country? Still bagging up at the tills aged 103?

When was the last time you were in an actual, physical shop, BurlyBeaR? Nobody has had their shopping 'bagged' for the last decade. Unless you ask for one, you don't even get a receipt anymore!

Latest fondant fancy news. Eight for £1.00 in the market today, the same price as 12 bakewell or angel slices, and a Hovis loaf for just 60p. In other news, lovely Hazel Irvine is wearing a very colourful pair of slacks. I'd call them cerise, though BurlyBeaR is the Board's colour expert.

£3 on Ocado. M&S do their own version, also £3.
That’s the in-date ones though.

Just caused a lot of confusion at Theatre Royal Drury Lane by saying I was in the Dress Circle, when actually I was in the Royal Circle!

Weather warning!
I've just put the summer quilt on the bed so expect gales and snow next week.

Northern Lights seem to have been visible over most of Britain last night. Couldn’t see a bloody thing where I live though. 🙁

I saw them by eye which was pretty amazing for London. I am often watching the statistics and when I'm in Devon if there's a chance of seeing them I'll go out. Most of the time you won't see them by eye in this country even when the statistics are high as our eyes aren't good enough at night. You just see lighter streaks in the sky but if you take a photo that's when the colours magically appear. Last night though it was so strong that you could see some colour by eye even in light polluted London.
Hope the storm continues and it's clear tonight.

Celebrating my birthday today with a London transport museum walking tour of central London (hopefully it stays warm and dry) followed by a double show day - Stranger Things this afternoon and then Fawlty Towers tonight.

Don’t forget all the birthday freebies you can get in London. My favourite is the Rituals app free £13 hand wash (they have a lovely one in Covent Garden). Go straight in and use their copper sink and hand wash facilities too to freshen up if you want, complete with choice of foam wash and tiny hand towel.

I just told my boss off and I am not sorry. I was trying to do something very complicated on my PC and she was twittering away about ripe bananas and a bag of McCain chips having black bits on them that I couldn't concentrate. I asked her to be quiet as it was a very complicated job and I couldn't concentrate. The thing is if I make a mistake then I get in trouble when it isn't my fault. Anyway I retire in 6 months so I don't care. 😀
