Tonsillitis and feeling very sorry for myself!!! Pretty much ruined my weekend plans. Bed and ice cream, I guess! Time to finally binge watch through a few Netflix series…

You have my sympathy, had that a few months back and couldn't believe how bad it was, hope you're better soon.

There’s lots of mad bugs going round at the moment. I’ve been offside all week, coming back from Blackpool on Saturday I started feeling nauseous so went to bed. Woke up on Sunday and was sick as a dog but rallied in the afternoon and though I went to work on Monday I still felt delicate and all week I’ve been a bit tickle stomached. I’d chalk it up to life, but my it was my 3rd stomach bug since October last year! I don’t know what gives, it’s like I’m 4 years old!!

The new Crown Paint advert "there's a baby on the way" is doing my head in! Just thought I'd share that.

Decided to take a Thames Clipper to get to the Old Vic tonight to beat the Friday night tube scrum. Best decision ever.

I’m sat outside a clinic waiting to have my Covid booster- I have my flu jab booked in for later next week. Feeling very grateful right now!

Got my COVID booster and flu jab. Shopped around once again for better hotel rates for my 2-7 November London visit.
Went ahead and booked tickets for all but two slots for the trip (hoping there might be a last minute return for Tammy Faye). A nice lineup of shows I think: The Crucible, A Single Man, Blues for an Alabama Sky, Cabaret, Not One of Those People, My Son's a Queer, Crystal Pite's new work with The Royal Ballet.
Much lighter than usual on musicals, but really not interested in much of what London's offering that we don't already have in the States right now.

Hi! It's been a while. So life's been hectic lately, as usual! Had some bad news last week, which has floored me tbh. I hope you don't mind me sharing, sometimes it's easier to speak with people who don't know you personally. My lovely lovely Dad, after his heart problems last year, has been diagnosed with very very early stages of Alzheimers. It wasn't a massive shock as his short term memory has been not as good as usual for a couple of years, but he's otherwise OK. It's just really upset me cos I keep worrying about the future, imagining him in a home and all that stuff. People keep saying to enjoy time with him now and not to worry about the future but finding that really difficult atm! Just one of those horrible facts of getting older and having ageing parents. I keep veering between floods of tears and being really motivated about sorting his diet out and getting him fitter and doing what I can to slow the progression, its just horrible not knowing what to expect. So yeah, thats my life at the min!!

I lost my mum about 20 years ago but only lost my dad last year during covid so had the added issues of Covid and not being able to see him at the end which was horrible. I'm sure your dad will have plenty of years ahead of him and he has you to look after him and make sure he is eating well and keeping fit. That's all you can do really but try not to dwell on the future too much as that's not within your control. But make sure you live as well and do the things you enjoy which, I am sure, is what he would want. Anyway best wishes to you both.

Apart from the usual practical advice that there is lots of lovely people out there with lots of help so do use it. Look and see if there any devices that you could implement now early in diagnosis. Have you power of attorney and wills set up? That could be useful. And lastly, never underestimate the power of music and the memories it installs for everybody

So yeah, thats my life at the min!! Sorry to hear about that. I guess getting info from support groups is helpful but there maybe things they can do to slow it down. The singing programme has been on with Vicky Mclure which really seems to help. Not easy though when you first get that initial diagnosis. We have had a rough few days as my younger brother(52) has been rediagnosed with Lymphoma. He had it in March then went through Chemo and radiotherapy and was about to get a 3 month scan to check but had symptoms and it has come back to the same place it was before. He is about to go on a very agressive treatment next week(hopefully) which will involve him being hospitalised for some of it as side effects are very bad. Not easy when you live away or for my parents as we don't live close. You can just hope and pray.

Thanks everyone. Sorry to hear about your mum glen and brother ian. I think its just hit me hard cos I'm such a Daddy's girl! My parents have a bit of money so are getting financial/legal advice how to protect that and they have a will already. Gonna look into power of attorney's as well. Maybe between me, my brother and my mum. Only problem is me and my brother don't get on v well but I guess we'll have to start!! It's not knowing what to expect as well as things get worse. It's just awful and it's blindsided me!

Some of us here in the States allowed ourselves a brief moment of hope that the week's legal decisions portend our former President may finally face his day(s) of reckoning and be held accountability for his actions both as a CEO and as President.

I'd happily trade seeing him in jail for an iron-clad verdict rendering him unable to hold public office in the future, unable to donate to candidates, unable to make public statements about politics, unable to participate or influence politics in any way shape or form. Failing that (or in a perfect world, in addition to that), throw his a$$ in jail.

Had a really lovely day in London yesterday with theatre buddy I hadn’t done theatre with since before the pandemic. Felt a bit like coming home to be back walking to Hampstead theatre and, of course, the weather was lovely, so that helped. Still feel a bit like life is not back to “before covid” as out of practice and so much has changed, mostly me!….it’s funny how in life we really can’t go back to how things were..only forwards making a new reality! It does make me think about history and how life must have been with the plague, after World War I with the horrible Spanish flu pandemic and even after polio outbreaks our parents would have been around for. It also makes me more sympathetic to refugees, immigrants of all sorts….we can see how fragile situations are, and that things happen when you don’t expect them to.
Less sympathetic that I used to be about the flash cars and big houses in London….give me long enough and I may end up a communist!

Bought chocolate in case of 🎃 callers…..but didn’t get any (not surprising as didn’t have pumpkin in window!), so having to eat it all now….took to work so that I don’t eat whole packet of biscuits…..!

I had an important 'meeting' in Doncaster this afternoon, which just happened to coincide with the King & Queen paying a visit to confer city status. No word of a lie, literally millions of others had the same idea!
There was a brass band, bunting and everything.
Only a four car motorcade, compared to the dozen that minor politicians have these days. Many of the same bodyguards that we got so used to seeing two months ago were on duty.
Either I'm getting older, or police officers are getting younger. They've definitely getting shorter...and less well shaven. The men aren't much better! 🙂
Now I'm in the pub toasting Their Majesties with a pint. A half cut, and rather loud, Courtney is also here celebrating her 18th birthday. She's having sex on the beach, in the afternoon! Her friend, Joanne, deserves a medal.
