Spent the day with my new niece for her first Christmas. She got more joy from the wrapping paper and boxes rather than the presents themselves!

oh what fun david. I don't know if it's because i'm tired, or memories of childhood or the thought of hungry birds but feed the birds from Mary Poppins came on the radio earlier while I was out and I just welled up.

Thanks peggs. She seemed to enjoy all the wrapping paper. At least I know what to get her for her 1st birthday - just a lot of paper and boxes! It was definitely a day to savour. As I don’t get to see her that often, it’s scary how quickly they grow up.

I spent some time rearranging my deck chairs as Feb was looking slightly r iiiiiidiculous. Still have 20 events in the first 60 days of 2020 but I like it a lot, and almost all the seats are happylicious! 45 booked in all now for 2020 (plus two for 2021 (SRB/Borkman)). Keeping it real at a sub £20 average. Really, so much to look forward to in 2020! Next up: Red Shoes on Boxing Day at Sadlers Wells.

I can tell you what my last 3 days have been like and that's hell because i have the norovirus and it's genuinely the worst thing i'vem experienced and had to have 999 out twice. Apparently it was also causing me to have panic attacks as well on top of it and making it all worse. Starting to feel a bit better this morning so hopefully it eases of in time for Xmas Day.

When I book a theatre ticket online, at a venue I've previously visited, using my debit card, the only detail I usually have to enter to confirm payment is the three figure security code. Very occasionally I have to input full payment details.
However there is one theatre where when I click on the security box that three figure number appears so it has been stored which doesn't seem right. Clicking on the padlock confirms that the connection is secure and the site has a valid and current security certificate. It happened a few months ago and I let it go but it's happened today with the same venue so I aborted the transaction.
Does anyone with knowledge of how these thing work consider that this is cause for concern and should I notify the theatre or my bank ?
Thanks.

Thanks goodness Christmas Day is nearly over for another year. I never enjoy it. I think it's because there's this expectation that everyone's supposed to have a brilliant day & I never have had, so now I find I'm always in a worse mood than usual on Christmas Day as a reaction to being expected to enjoy it. I also hate receiving presents, as I hate having to pretend to be grateful for things that I usually don't want. Yes, I prefer Scrooge as a character pre-conversion!

What I suspect is happening is that your web browser is autofilling the field for you. The site could disable the autofill for that field — there's an attribute that can be set that will tell the browser not to autofill the field — but they probably won't bother. If that's what's going on then it's only a security risk in so far as someone else could use your computer and get your card verification value, but if they have access to your computer they'd probably be able to get access to your card as well and read the CVV from that. The online transaction is just as secure as it always was. But if it's the site itself storing the CVV and populating the field then they shouldn't, because the PCI standards prohibit that. They're only allowed to hang on to that value for as long as it takes to authorise each individual transaction. In that case it should definitely be reported.

I opted out this year, as i do every few years, and you wouldn't even know it was christmas in my house. I got up late, pottered round, had a rack of ribs for dinner and caught up on tv that i had recorded. My sister expects me to go to hers and entertain them, but why she can't suggest playing a board game, i'll never know. There is definitely an expectation for everything to be perfect and i am exactley the same about gifts. I have a terrible poker face....
I hope you're in a better mood soon.

The expectation always over the top; same with everything else - special parties, outings, relationships. 😂 I have been quiet today (just with OH )enjoying some turkey which I actually like and watching movies and tv. I consider myself fortunate to have the choice and the companion. So all the best to you guys, new day tomorrow.

After having 24 hour bug yesterday was relieved to be up and eating on some level. Small niece and nephew on the end of lots of bugs so huge amounts of crying and snot. Oh and sick and exploding nappies. Still it was probably better option than listening to my mother do part 2 of everyone who has died in the last ten years.

My web browser does indeed autofill all the name/address/payment details but not the CVV number. I've booked with over a hundred different theatres this year all on this computer and in every other case I get a blank box for the CVV. On this particular theatre's website for that box I'm presented with both my current debit card's CVV and also a previous one that expired a couple of years ago. When you say it should be reported do you mean to the theatre or card issuer ?

When you say it should be reported do you mean to the theatre or card issuer ? My first inclination would be to report it to the theatre. Tell them what you've posted here: say that the CVV is being filled in and you don't know why, mention that the site is prohibited from storing it, and ask if the problem is at their end. That makes it their job to do all the investigation and gives them a chance to fix it if it's their fault. However, I suspect what you'll get back is some bland response from someone who doesn't understand the problem about how they store all your details securely and you don't have to worry (or worse, a response from someone who does understand and says they're doing it deliberately for your convenience), in which case I'd also inform the card issuer. If the bank thinks it's a problem and sends the theatre a letter they won't be brushed off so easily.

I even did some ironing just to defy it being supposed to be a special day!

Anyone else been out sales shopping today ? We only look for food and after getting £150 as priced reduced to £21 on Christmas Eve from Asda opted for Sainsbury's and M&S this afternoon.
Sainsbury's had reduced all fresh turkeys by 75% this morning from opening time but at 3.30 they cut them by a further 75%. Star buy was a Taste The Difference Bronze Turkey Crown with bacon, chestnuts etc, was £52, reduced to £13, then reduced to £3.24, also two more big fresh turkey crowns cost me £3.49 each. Could have had an £80 huge fresh turkey for £4.99 but just too big for us.
M&S had so much left that they ran out of time to do final reductions and announced at 5pm that the store was closing and all remaining fresh food dated today would be donated to charity. They had at least 40 turkeys still on the shelves unsold at half price. There was still a load of fresh meat, fish, ready meals and other goodies all reduced by 85%. Lots of competition there including some "grab everything we can" types but we still spent £18 at 15% of original prices including smoked salmon slices for £1.50 from £10 but stated to be originally £15 so an overall 90% reduction.
Worth the time and effort, freezers now totally full. Spent just under £60 altogether between Christmas Eve and today and the full prices total at least £400.

I went for an appointment at a Santander "Work Cafe" in Leeds yesterday, and they offered me a free barista coffee to take away, which was very nice.
As I don't drink coffee tho, it was wasted on me, so I gave it to a homeless man round the corner. I felt great afterwards, and the man was very appreciative, however small a gesture it might've been.

When I visited Leeds a couple of months ago, I started giving my leftovers from a restaurant visit to homeless people just around the corner (I mean, I did it twice, but you know). Otherwise the restaurant will just throw the food away, while homeless people are really happy to get it! So now I am going to try to do this more often. As a side note: there are a lot of homeless people in Leeds (and actually in the entire UK), I noticed. Quite sad, especially when it is so bloody cold outside!

That's a great idea, I'll make note of that! (Not technically restaurants but I know Pret and Greggs have a policy about leftover food and they donate those to food banks, homeless charities and whatnot, but most just throw their stuff and it's sad.)
Yeah, there were quite a number of them I spotted on my travels yesterday. Whilst on my way to retrieve the coffee even, I saw a homeless girl camping in an doorway. I've never helped someone on the street before. I've always passed them and felt awful afterwards for not doing anything, but that will change after yesterday.

On Wednesday 18 March I'll be travelling by train from Kent to Manchester for the matinee of Back To The Future. I just tried to book Zorro Musical at Hope Mill with view to staying overnight in Manchester but I've left it too late and 18 March is already sold out (the only sold out date in the entire run, just my luck!). On Thursday 19 March I'm seeing the matinee of Phantom Of The Opera in Leicester. As things stand I'll be getting home from Manchester very late on Wednesday and leaving again for Leicester by 10 am on Thursday so I'm still considering staying overnight if I can find another musical, professional or amateur, to see on Wednesday evening somewhere within about a 75 minute train journey from Manchester. Cabaret at Sheffield is an option but I've seen that recently. Can't find anything in Leeds or Liverpool. I've found Chicago (amateur) at Colne but that's a 90 minute bus journey away. Any other suggestions appreciated. I just looked again at the Hope Mill website and 18 March is back on sale so now booked and very happy . The ticket price is higher than other weeknights and with no concessions but at least I'm in. Very relieved I didn't book any of the other shows kindly suggested when I posted this a couple of months ago.
