My best theatre buddy’s Mum passed away this afternoon. She had surgery for a colon problem on Tuesday and ended up with sepsis afterwards - very sudden and shocking. She was only in her 70s. Don’t quite know what to do that will be helpful. Suspect that there’s actually nothing I can do at all. 😢 Very sorry to hear that.

Realised once again today that a) I have no clue about classical music and b) parents whose kids are performing in one way or another (orchestra tonight) are the worst customers ever

I thought I'd share an incident from one of my 'dressing gown' TV shows this morning. (ie. anything to avoid re-runs of Tipping Point while I'm having breakfast.)
I'm partial to a bit of The Bondi Vet. Actually, I'm partial to many bits of the Bondi vet, but we'll, ahem, skate over that. In today's episode they'd actually sent him to the wilds of Newquay. Oh yes, this talented antipodean, who's just as at home curing crocodiles as he is injecting iguanas, turns up in Cornwall, where the wind played havoc with his wouldn't-you-like-to-run-your-fingers-through-it hair.
So. What comes into his surgery? A duck. And not just any old duck. Oh no. A show duck. Yes, you heard right. A champion show duck at that, who had torn the webbing on her foot. And, horror of horrors, The Most Important Duck Show in Britain (yes that one) is only a month away. What to do?
"I have an idea," suggests our Chris. "I could use tissue glue and try and stick her web back together so there'd be no scar."
Now, I know what you're all thinking. Glue made out of Kleenex doesn't sound like something that would stick. No. Tissue glue (and I learnt this myself this morning) is glue used to stick organ tissue back together in surgery. Who'd have thunk it eh?
Anyway. Chris carefully glues Jemima's web together while Jemima, good as gold, stands very, very still. After he's finished and seems happy with his work, Jemima remains standing very, very still.
"It's ok Jemima. You can give it a go now."
She continues to stand very, very still.
"Uh-ooh," murmurs Chris. "I think I might have stuck her foot to the table..."🤯🦆🙈
But then, like all blokes, he has to go and ruin it by saying "It's never happened to me before..."

Was re-united with a VERY old friend yesterday. One I'd not seen in about 25 years or so... "Blue Peter." Just was channel hopping to kill a bit of time while cooking, and it happened to be on. All I can say is, I was amazed how high-quality it remains. As good as "back in my day." The film adventure up Blackpool Tower was pure Noakes, some good double-entendres, endearingly nerdy competition winner of a really good prize (visit to Lego HQ and get your drawing made into a toy), studio with circus performers. Oh, and Lindsey Russell is every bit as appealing as Lesley and Caron - the reason British Industry used to close early on Mondays and Thursdays. I thought the programme had been written off, but it is still one of the best things on the BBC on this evidence, I'd say. I remember watching the anniversary special of Blue Peter a while ago and they've managed to get the show back to its roots but update it for modern audiences.

There's a stall in the market selling 'wild' pigeons for £1 a bird.
They weren't wild when they were shot, they were absolutely livid! (One for the older members.)

Took children to soft play- forgot what a hell on earth soft play in the holidays was. I think you are supposed to just stand at the side and watch, dontdreamit. Between other parents trying to steal the chairs from our table, other children trying to swipe the slushes off the table whilst my two were playing, and people barging me every time they went past where I was sat, the actual soft pay itself was the least of my worries!

Just managed to fall up the marble stairs in my flat. I’ve got a lump on my shin that wasn’t there before. I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself now haha.

My laptop took about 2 hours to do updates this evening. Has anyone else running Windows 10 had this recently? Usually it's only a few minutes.

Stupidly, I decided it would be a good idea to do the update at 10pm thinking it wouldn’t take long. It was gone midnight by the time the update was completed. It took so long as it has got a lot of new stuff for the windows 10 software.

At least mine started about 5pm so I wasn't waiting around for it late at night although at one point, when it had taken over an hour to get to 30%, I was beginning to wonder if it was going to take all night! Fortunately it then did 30%-60% relatively quickly before crawling through the last lot of percentages.

As I was walking into the city centre this morning, there was a man with a net of onions under one arm, and a cockatoo perched on the other, as you do.

Haircut. Go-to guy on holiday so tried somewhere else. Bad reception at one so onto an old haunt. Halfway through the cut's looking great, I'm happy. "Just a tiny bit off the top, not much at all" he starts then keeps going. And keeps going. And keeps going. Rocking the thug look now... At least it'll grow back.

A day off today and I can't begin to tell how excited I was to spend two hours* with my theatre booking spreadsheet! Spoken with so many lovely people at box offices - moving things, improving seats, spacing things out better. What a time of year this is for the NT Friday Rush, both Little Island and Lehman Trilogy snaffled up All I have left to do now is re-imagine a Bitter Wheat booking, so if you see someone wailing and prostate in the foyer of the Garrick tomorrow afternoon do say hello. #happy day#
* would accept 3

In the middle of one of the worst anxiety attacks of my life over something I said in work today that on reflection I realise might have been taken to mean something other than I intended and I can't now fix it until Monday. Feeling in a complete state of panic at the minute and no idea how to distract myself sufficiently to get through this weekend

In the middle of one of the worst anxiety attacks of my life over something I said in work today that on reflection I realise might have been taken to mean something other than I intended and I can't now fix it until Monday. Feeling in a complete state of panic at the minute and no idea how to distract myself sufficiently to get through this weekend Oh dear. I really hate that. I bet you’re over-thinking it though (which I do a lot). If you want to tell us (or someone on here privately) what you said, we might be able to allay your fears but I completely understand if you don’t want to think about it again. Try and be positive and put it to the back of your mind (easier said than done I know). If you really can’t do anything about it until Monday, then just try and have a nice weekend. (This all sounds a bit preachy I know and I’m sure I would be exactly like you.) I don’t know you but find your favourite distraction and go hard at it when you’re not doing other things. Reading, writing (,’rithmetic), singing, gaming, cooking, sport or any combination of the above plus your actual interests might help.
