Enjoyable evening watching A Chorus Line in Brighton. Good performance, irritating audience, persistent fire alarm went off once in the interval and twice in act 2. Credit to the performers who carried on through the interruptions

Cynically watching the Pepsi advert story unfold. Probably just me, but, having seen it, I wonder if the marketing team themselves started the rumour just to cover thier own backs. It's an odd bit of film-making, unimaginative, rather than controversial, I'd have said. But that's just me. I'm obviously leading a sheltered life as I haven't a clue what you're talking about |

My team won the quiz run by our choir (with the I think excellent team name 'Eddie Quizard') and choir raised £370 for Teenage Cancer trust. So not a bad Thursday. My Friday is brought to you by coffee, and being thankful the there's hardly anyone in the office on a Friday.

So far my day has gone well as I have booked tickets to see the band milky chance but it is all the way in November ☹️ But on the plus side they were only £23 each!!!

Well after waking up to find Trump had blitzed Syria and most of the non NATO world aren't happy, the rest of the day (so far) has been a vast improvement - I'm trying to put the thought of being a stuck at a desk for the next seven hours or so out of my mind and picturing the weekend ahead of me: Michael Palin at the BFI tonight, Soulwax at Electric Brixton tomorrow night and Lee Mack & Barry Cryer at the BFI on Sunday afternoon. It seemed a good idea at the time booking these when they first went on sale, don't know if I'll be feeling so clever when I'm back at this desk on Monday morning feeling like death warmed up.

Well, boo. Travelodge just told me, they can't split a booking for three consecutive nights into a booking of two nights and another night later. There goes my plan to shift my trip in October around for Follies, so I can only hope for an extension. How I hate the repertory system of the National Theatre, somehow it never works out for me.
Putting the moan in here, since I know many of you use Travelodge as well and this might be useful information. This will teach me to book rooms way too early in advance.

There goes my plan to shift my trip in October around for Follies, so I can only hope for an extension. How I hate the repertory system of the National Theatre, somehow it never works out for me. Putting the moan in here, since I know many of you use Travelodge as well and this might be useful information. This will teach me to book rooms way too early in advance. Or maybe, if the booking system allows, book each night separately so you have the flexibility to move/cancel them individually if needs be. As far as I remember, I don't think the consecutive nights' booking gives you any financial advantage with Travelodge. But what a pain on this occasion  |

But what a pain on this occasion Yea, it's because I booked the saver rate - which has always been fine before since I don't see all that much at the National Theatre (and when I did have been lucky). I'm still considering extending the trip beyond my usual Sunday departure to Tuesday and catch Follies on Monday. Will brew on this. |

"I'm terribly sorry Mrs Tibidabo, but we've had to put a stop on your credit card as someone has just tried to pay £1,700 to a car insurance company."
"Er........yes.....um.....that would be me....!"
That's what 18 year olds cost folks!

I helped pay for driving lessons but as soon as she passed the test she was banned from the car and on the bus again! I do find car insurance for youngsters ridiculous....I find myself saying "it was never like that in my day" and sounding ancient! Just another way we seem to have screwed over the next generation! |

Latecomer , I looked into black boxes etc. but we're sharing my car, as she's off to uni in the autumn, and I chose not to get one as I didn't want to be fined every time I take a corner on 2 wheels! Also, some companies wanted an eye-watering £1,300 excess for the first 3 months (12 months if an accident is after 11PM or with a passenger under 25.) I can actually take her off the policy when she goes in the autumn and get a refund, then stick her back on with a phone call just for weekends, Christmas, etc whenever she comes home. It honestly seemed the cheapest way. As for sounding ancient - I get the eye-roll every time I eat a strawberry/apple and moan that "it doesn't taste like it did in my day!"

Some insurance companies offer discounts for people who have a dashcam fitted. It's useful in resolving conflicts where everyone claims it was someone else's fault, and it also acts as an encouragement to drive more considerately because in the event of an accident it won't go down well if the preceding ten minutes of footage are filled with swearing and horn-blasting.
I don't like the idea of black boxes because they can only record what happens, not the reason for it. Someone who brakes sharply could be doing so because they have excellent reactions to a sudden hazard or because they were busy texting and realised at the last second that there was a queue of traffic in front of them. Someone driving at a constant 68 on a motorway could be 50cm behind the car in front, but the black box will only see a steady driver keeping within the speed limit. Black boxes measure the things that are easy to measure, not the things that indicate the quality of someone's driving.

@thematthew I completely agree with what you say about the black box. Though I do think it helps stop the kids speeding. But best used if they have their own car I think. As for tailgating - oh how I hate that but, tell you what - I've recently discovered that driving with a green P on the car keeps the burgers at a safe distance!

Gosh, parsley, I'd've thought that now of all times you'd need to escape to the theatre! And to endure all that work would be bad enough but combined with foregoing theatre for the duration - well, I admire your fortitude but couldn't emulate it.

An afternoon on the allotment, listening to several cast recordings on the ipod. Trying hard not to sing out loud!
Total bliss.....
...apart from getting stung a few times by nettles: the tiny, almost hidden ones are such bitches! So my arms and hands have that odd tingly sensation at the moment!

Friday is one of my volunteering days so the NT's Friday Rush is never normally on my radar (unlike Monday booking for the Donmar and a few others, which is painfully etched into my consciousness, though usually because I'm aware of not being free to book) and I've certainly never attempted to try it before. However, yesterday I had a break at the right time and was amazed and delighted to secure a decent seat for Consent the following week. The mixed reviews here and in the press had made me want to see it for myself but unwilling to pay the normal rate for a decent seat; £20 however should be worth it for the improved comfort and view, if not for the play itself!
Who knows, at this rate I may even try again at some future point, though I was probably lucky that due to the Easter break, the booking period covered more than the usual single week so if necessary I'd have had access to other dates.
