I'm having a very 'Monday' Monday- I've not been sleeping well so feeling like death warmed up, work is deader than a dead thing and highlighting that I really need to find a 'proper' job... so not helping...and currently someone has left a conference room door open that's making the rest of the floor freezing. I'd like to sleep for a week somewhere warm thanks.

A late and somewhat booze night made the early alarm rather shrill, but on the whole not a bad day... until I fell over in the street (always cool). Kneecap feels like it's exploded and the bruise is blooming beautifully. And it's only Monday. Still, it's been a beautiful sunset

Ooh, I've finally made it to Senior Member status. That's cheered up a boring day & a stressful evening when I nearly had a nervous breakdown over a ceiling.

The lesson for today is: If you decant a bunch of Skittles into your lap so you'll have something to nibble while driving you will spend several minutes hunting down stray Skittles when you get to your destination.

The trick, @thematthew, is to wear a skirt so they don't roll off between your legs. You're welcome.

Got home. Cooked dinner: remains of Sunday's chicken in ready-made sauce on pasta. After a few mouthfuls became aware my mouth was burning. Went & checked empty sauce jar: not the usual tomato but tomato & chilli, evidently bought in error. I hate spicy food but had to eat it, as there was no more chicken left. Why can't Sainbury's sell different sauce flavours in more distinctive jars?!
What sort of box office closes its phone lines at 6pm on a show night? That would be one of my local theatres. Not impressed.

As bad as Curzon Cinemas, who close their phone lines at 8 pm despite having showings on umpteen screens until late into the evening and for which people might still wish to book. Helpfully the recorded message referred callers to the website. Well I wouldn't be trying to ring if the blasted website was working properly, would I?!

Mine referred me to its website too, but the website isn't going to tell me if I can switch my Wedding Singer ticket from Friday to Thursday because Jon Robyns isn't doing the performance I originally booked for. Think I might have to walk into town after work tomorrow & wave the ticket at them in person.

Well, I've had a good day. Met my set designer for "Bette and Joan", we both had the same vision! I have not seen him for several years so we also had a good chat over coffee. Only downside, the train from Chester to Manchester was so old and rickety I swear to god it pre-dated Stephenson's Rocket!

No, they were there alright. Spent over an hour and I half in John Lewis's cushion & curtain departments today. That's an hour and a half of my life wasted.

On my way to see Henning Wehn at Leicester Square Theatre tonight, saw Simon Callow sitting by the window of the Prezzo just off Trafalgar Square with a laptop, I'm presuming he was taking a break from preparing The Philanthropist but 😀 all the same...

Fun fact: He's completely unknown in Germany. If you asked 100 Germans who Henning Wehn was, 100 would say "Who?". I only know him because I once saw him in QI.

As a member of the Writers Guild of America I was informed by email this morning that negotiations for a new contract have broken down so a strike vote has been called. Strike vote in April followed by a strike in May when our contract expires. It's pretty much guaranteed because the WGA always strikes - by contrast, the Directors (DGA) have never had a strike in their history. Clearly the writers are the social conscience of show business, the directors simply pawns of the establishment.
So, once again, the film and television industries will be shut down for a few months and I can look forward to another picket line. Usually I'm assigned to the CBS Hollywood studio where James Corden does his crosswalk musicals so this year we might have some entertainment!
Just thought I'd share.

Read that letter we filed over "Article 50" over breakfast. Anyone else agree that we could have saved ourselves a lot of time and trouble by just "ghosting" them on Facebook instead? Angela who? sorry new phone who is this?
After a lovely day in London (Friend's birthday, we went for tea and cake after Hamlet, had a catch up etc) reminded me that a) I do love London b) I miss my friends who seem increasingly to live not in the same city as me.
After a long day, of course then insomnia struck, and starting work at 8 in order to finish early and fetch the Mother from a hospital appointment means I feel like death warmed up. Anyone got a coffee IV?

Interesting, I know far too little about what's going on in the industry, oops. Possibly about to start a job where the director is the writer and there would normally be lots of script revisions, that'd be interesting. Hope you get some entertainment on the picket line!

Dippy, the Guild situation in the UK is quite different - or so I'm told. No strikes here. There are, of course, a lot of writer/directors and writer/producers which means a lot of people are on both sides of the negotiating table. You'd think that would help - but, no.

Good to know, I probably didn't explain well enough though (American writer/director) but it probably won't be affected like you say. Good luck with everything over there. Hope the strike doesn't last too long (if it happens). I remember the short TV seasons because of the 2007-2008 one.

At the theatre for The Wedding Singer. Interesting how audiences can differ in the same city for different shows. This audience is far more common than those I am used to for plays & operas.

So, if I asked you who Henning Wehn was, you would say "Who?". Even though you know him because you once saw him in QI. Obviously not. It says right there: "If you asked 100 Germans". You're asking one German. You're not fulfilling the condition so of course you're going to get a different answer.

I haven't asked any Germans. One volunteered the information.
