It’ been a good day!
We had our office Christmas lunch and Secret Santa - I like my present and my giftee seemed to like hers, the food was tasty and my team won the post-lunch quiz!
On the train home early because they don’t make us go back to the office after lunch. I also asserted myself successfully to the annoyingly oblivious man who sat next to me. I’m on the aisle, he sat in the empty window seat next to me - I realised after a few minutes that after moving my legs so he could get to the seat I’d ended up sitting on the edge of the seat awkwardly while he was holding a coffee cup in his right hand and had a newspaper held open with his left, comfortably elbow out. So I determinedly edged myself back into my seat proper so he had to stop taking up half my space. And then when he got up to leave he left the coffee cup sitting on the seat and I pointed out that he’d left his cup (which of course was empty), as if he’d forgotten his coffee, which made him pick it back up and bin it properly.
Go me!

There's small print that says some venues reserve the right to charge up to £2.60 to re-print, though. So check. Which I'd happily pay, if asked, as the price for my own stupidity!

Success! Box office printed out new tickets for me (with a shaming word DUPLICATE on them). I giggled a bit when a lady next to me in the box office started with: "I am the agent of a man playing Shrek". And I must say, Shrek was extremely funny. I don't remember when was the last time I laughed so much in the theatre (but not on the fart jokes, I'm better than that, dear).

I giggled a bit when a lady next to me in the box office started with: "I am the agent of a man playing Shrek". I once went to see a school production of The Tempest that Mini Tibs had directed. I sat next to her teacher who proudly told me she'd written it......I'm not often lost for words...!?

I didn't get to go to the office Christmas dinner today as temps don't get invited. There's No Such Thing As A Free Lunch! I did get invited to the after-work department Chrismas outing though, which was at the local temporary ice rink. Pleased to report that, despite not having skated for at least a dozen years, I didn't fall over & did at least remember how to go forwards, if not backwards.

Office Christmas party tonight, and amazingly I won an iPhone in the raffle! I think it’s the SE (the cheapest one), but still not bad!

I'm very bereft as a minor problem with my netbook, which was on my long list for the IT man, was suddenly eclipsedby a major one with my laptop, so I had to call on him sooner than expected - I was really hoping to postpone any further expense until January.
He couldn't fix either in situ so had to take both away, leaving me with an ancient tablet I never use now, and my mobile. I know I'm lucky still to have one device, never mind two, but even with my glasses, I still struggle with the tiny screens and being unable to see the whole page if I increase the magnification. How on earth do people manage with mobile s or netbooks all the time?!

Well my yesterday was awful- I did a 7 hour round trip for an interview, after waking up with some kind of horrible bug. So spent a day freezing, fighting nausea and generally wishing I was anywhere but. To add insult, I hadn't even got on my train home before I was rejected from the job so I guess they REALLY hated me, which is always nice to hear.
Today I didn't feel well enough to go into work (not to put too fine a point on it nobody wants the sales assisting vomiting on them right?) and the response from my manager was 'Well that's disappointing' despite my profuse apologies. So now I feel terribly guilty as well about it.

Just been into town for a couple of hours - it's really sunny and I've noticed during this recent cold snap that my reactolite lenses take much longer to clear when I go inside than they do in normal temperatures. It was really getting on my nerves today - the lighting in the shops is pathetic at the best of times and I just couldn't see anything. Getting crosser and crosser I finally traipsed to the other end of the high street and into my opticians to have a moan. I pointed out that the cost these lenses would have made a serious hole in the national debt (they are supposed to stop car headlights glaring at me at night. Yes. Right. I know now) and they seem to be struggling in the cold weather and taking far too long to clear and I just nearly bought a book by Michael MacIntyre instead of Michael Morpurgo (AAAAAgggggggghhhhhh!) and just please can you do something about it now please?"Of course Mrs Tibidabo. I'll have a look. Where are they?" "Eh? On my face! Where else?" "No Mrs Tibidabo, you're wearing your prescription sunglasses......!" 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

This is something really baffles me. If someone is sick, they shouldn't come to work. End of story. No one should be forced to work when they are not feeling well. I've witnessed and experienced one sick team member successively spreading their germs in the office and making everyone else sick. Hope you'll feel better soon Emi!! x

Get well soon @emicardiff , and let's hope it's the kind of bug where you feel fine the next day but are still contagious for a few days more - so you can go into work and cough near the boss a few times... hehe yeah I'm going to go in an lick all the books just to make sure

Also while I'm at it, working in a shop with doors open and no heat during all this cold weather (temp was around 1-0 degrees all last week) certainly didn't help... Anyway I am starting to feel better, but I'm glad I didn't attempt to work today.

Thoroughly pissed off. I've just had my purse pinched from my handbag while I've been in my library on the computer.

@emicardiff I think you totally did the right thing. It'd be unfair to your colleagues & customers if you risked infecting them. I'm phobic about being sick so have very strong views on this subject!

anita and @emicardiff , I would 'like' your posts but wouldn't want it to look as if I'm rubbing my hands together in schadenfreude, which I am obviously not. So just to say thuuuuuurrrrrrrrssssssssp to miserable bosses and, as for thieves....I hope whoever it was slipped on the ice in his hurry to get away......bloody gitfaced twonk.

Indeed Dawnstar as it happens my two best friends have severe fear of being sick so I’m extra conscious of it! Not to mention it’s obviously what nobody wants with their Xmas shopping! Thankfully other than being very very tired I seem to be doing better today.

The death of my mum in the summer of last year inspired me to start writing. I wrote a short story based on the last time we shared a cream cake in the hospice, interweaving a memory from childhood about buying cakes in our local bakers. Since then I have been enjoying writing various other bits and pieces, only recently plucking up the courage to enter some writing competitions. I have just received an email from a publisher telling me that I didn't win, nor did I come second or third, but... my entry was 'Highly Commended' and for this my prize is to be published in an actual book! You know... pages, contents, a spine... and available on a very well known online website...!!! I'M IN PRINT, MUM!!!!!!

I've witnessed and experienced one sick team member successively spreading their germs in the office and making everyone else sick. I used to work with someone who insisted on struggling in to work no matter how ill she was because of the impact it would have on the company if she took time off, and she never seemed to grasp that by infecting all the people around her she was having a far more detrimental effect on overall productivity than if she'd just taken a couple of days off and let everyone else work at their healthily productive best.

Someone reversed into my car. Second time in six months: someone else did the same in July. Only minor damage and I still have the touch-up paint from the last time so I can cover up the more obvious marks. I think my car must be a vampire, because apparently it can't be seen in mirrors.

oy with the poodles already....so we remember my pain-in-arse dog owner from a few weeks back yes? well today she messages wanting an exact list of what the dog ate every day....um it's food that you left us love? and basically accuses us of somehow making it ill. When confronted she's back-tracked but honestly this dog came with a plethora of health issues we didn't know about, was in season, wasn't house-trained and I spent more time answering messages from the owner than I did walking it. Anyhoo, for balance we have this delightful mop staying this week....(and yes, yes that toy does look like that) http://instagram.com/p/BcxCRONHSeB
