I've just booked tickets to see "Shrek" in Edinburgh. I wonder if I will regret this.

It was seriously impressive! We were treated to ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap and, believe it or not, pole dancing! When the poles came out and the 2 girls started to rub grease up and down them I was honestly wondering what on earth I'd let myself in for. However, it was really different to what I expected! It was more a feat of gymnastics than the filth many people associate with this. Definitely opened my eyes, that's for sure. Fantastic stuff! Pole Dancing is amazing. I was forced to watch it for three days going at a big motorbike expo where the company I worked for had a stall just across from Harley-Davidson who had a LARGE area that included a pole dancing performance on the hour each hour. The less said about the blatant sexism of it all, the better, but good bait, fine fish, etc. Anyway, all of that aside, I was deeply impressed by what the gal did there on that pole. I briefly considered picking up a new hobby but considering I never managed a pull-up in my life, I decided against it.

When it comes to pole dancing, it’s worth remembering that many dances now considered thoroughly respectable were regarded as shockingly sexual when they were first invented. The waltz, the tango....men used to go to the ballet to letch over the legs of the ballerinas.
I imagine that given enough time pole dancing will become thoroughly divorced from its salacious roots, and evolve into a completely respectable art form.

Just back from the Rep's 101 Dalmations. Not too much worth starting a thread over - the sharpest line in the play was "I'm seeing spots".

Got a ticket to see Rod Stewart at the BFI next month doing a Q&A following a screening of Rod The Mod, OK so he (probably) won't be singing, but: ROD STEWART!

I have a co-worker who seems to live by the maxim "why be on time when you can be ten minutes late" who swooped into the office a whole half hour late this morning (our manager is off today; I'll let you decide for yourself if this is related or coincidental). It's not unreasonable for me to be annoyed by this, is it? Surely the absolute bare minimum requirement for a job is "arrive in time to start working at the time you're contracted to start working"? I'm not a morning person and I have a semi-lengthy journey into the office, but I bust my hump to get here ready for 8am. What's the point in bothering if other people are just going to make up their own working hours? Arriving late to work Every Single Day just seems incredibly disrespectful to me.

If you a fixed start time then absolutely I agree with you, but in my office people start at any time within a 2 hour window and no-one bats an eyelid - the difference is those of us who start later tend to be in the office later. As long as you do your core hours (and usually a lot more) then it doesn't really matter. But all depends on the individual company and situation though of course.

Once upon a time we had flexitime, but people were abusing it and there wasn't enough in-office coverage at key points of the day, so the orders came down from on high that people were to strictly adhere to their contracted hours. Also there are aspects of the job that are time-sensitive and these tasks are largely morning-based, so it does have an impact on all of us when one of us when one of us is late.

Indeed even WITH flexi time I've worked with folks who waltz in late every day and I'm pretty sure then didn't stay late, while I busted my ass to get in early, so I could leave early and where did it get me? So yeah, I think a basic requirement is 'get your butt to work at or before the allotted time'.

You should send that link to Mischief Theatre. It could provide useful potential material if they do ever get round to having a second go at The Nativity Goes Wrong.

According to Spotify, my top 5 tunes for 2017 are: - How Far I'll Go, from Moana - Prologue, from Natasha, Pierre and the Great Commet - Pink, from War Paint - Overture, from Funny Girl (UK) - Welcome to the Rock, from Come from Away.
Looks like there is a pattern to the songs I'm listening to...

It's choir concert day, and my one day off in 6. So I'm sat trying to learn final harmonies, with dye on my hair, while trying to do other work. Go me multi-tasking.

The things you learn. The Maris in Maris Piper potatoes comes from Maris Lane in Cambridge. Not a lot of people know that.

Well I don’t want to take the wind out of anyone’s sails but strictly speaking Maris Lane is NOT in Cambridge, it’s in Trumpington which is a village outside of the city. I mean I wouldn’t want anyone to come bottom in a Christmas quiz or anything... You can know far too many useless facts, you know, TallPaul . But here’s one for you: Maris Pipers make the best chips, and in the cold, bleak north people eat whole bags of them every night covered in curry sauce for their tea.

I received an email from the National Lottery telling me "News about your ticket". I won £3 on Euromillions. I know there are reasons why they make the subject of the email uninformative but I still wish they'd say "Unexciting news about your ticket; no, seriously, it's not even worth checking" when it's a low win.
