Yes! Intrigued now as to whodunnit! (Although I can't help thinking that Sanjeev Bhaskar is completely out of his depth. The "actor" I mean, not his character...) The wife looks to be the most likely candidate, no?
(Also loving Apple Tree Yard on BBC1.)

I was enjoying it until this last episode which has left me totally confused with too much going on. I don't agree about Sanjeev Bhaskar @caiaphas - I think he's great in this and I loved the scene with Nicola Walker (who will always be Spooks Ruth to me) in the pub. I'm with you about the wife looking likely, though by the end of episode 5 I was beginning to suspect her husband.
Possibly controversial, but Apple Tree Yard has to be one of The Worst books I have ever read. It actually made me angry it was so bad. (So obviously I haven't been anywhere near the TV series.)

It will be interesting to see where it goes. Yes I love Ruth from Spooks. I definitely works better in a six episode format. Eight episodes often feel like they've got at least one filler episode. I can see it going a few different ways.
I really hope we get a third series as the two leads are very good.

By "the wife" I mean the wife of the victim found in the suitcase... I reckon she knew what he was up to (hence driving one of the victims home in her car) and subsequently killed him for his abuse of children. Re Apple Tree Yard- I had no idea this was based on a book until I Googled. The cover looks Awful! Enough to prevent me from giving it a go, but the TV presentation is Top Notch, no?

By "the wife" I mean the wife of the victim found in the suitcase... That's who I meant too - the police inspector. She has another husband and he's starting to look guilty!

Wow. If someone spoiled something as insignificant as Apple Tree Yard to me tonight I certainly wouldn't be going on about it three months later, let alone something as insignificant as a Strictly Spoiler.
Feel free to go and look it up and spoil it for me if it's really that important to you after all this time.

Well we're all different, aren't we? "Insignificant" enough for you to plead for no spoliers to be given? You see, we even differ over the meaning of the word. Enough said, I reckon.

It was just a request. I honestly don't care.
For anyone who didn't read the thread by the way, no spoilers were actually given but people decided to read into the word 'shocked' which at that point in the competition could've related to frankly anyone.
Believe me I know what insignificant is on World Cancer Day when someone in my family actually died from cancer (today). I came on here for a bit of escapism but someone had to bring up something from a long time ago to try and score points when we were made to feel guilty enough about it at the time.

Shall we keep on topic and talk about Unforgotten (the thread)
Great drama, loved both series. I think all 3 of them did it (Saira, Colin and Marion) as they were all tormented by him, especially Saira. Can't wait for the final episode, don't think the wife is involved but she definitely knew about the horrible stuff Paul Walker did.
We better get a series 3, ITV! Brilliant writing and unique to other crime dramas too

I struggle with Unforgotten. I watch it, but if I'm honest, only for 'Ruth from Spooks', who brings such wonderful integrity to all the characters I've seen her play.
Otherwise...it's just so bland. No stand-out sidekicks. No dramatic back stories (God knows we've seen enough alcoholic/unlucky-in-love etc TV coppers over the years, but at least that gives the actors some sort of emotional power to call on). Sometimes I get so distracted by the meh-ness of it all that I realise I've drifted off and am suddenly left trying to figure out who this random character is who never got mentioned before, and how the cops made the connection between Sudden Random Character and the suspects/victim...
My money (based entirely on gut instinct and no application of deductive reasoning whatsoever) is on the nurse's or the lawyer's seemingly perfect other halves. Though there may be a glaring reason why it can't be them that I missed in a drifting-off phase...

That crossed my mind, too, d'James. It's so often the Peripheral Person You'd Never Suspect who ends up having 'dunnit'.

BRILLIANT! What stunning acting. Nicola Walker and Mark Bonnar. What a moving scene.
Then the funny bit....
"I'm going before you try to snog me again."
"Good move."
Fantastic stuff. Well done ITV.

Total insanity of an ending. {Spoiler - click to view} Cassie conveniently forgot she'd forged a strong bond with the son of the murder victim (apparently neither he nor his mother, who was under suspicion, deserved either closure or to have the cloud hanging over them lifted).
And Sunny apparently thinks it's unforgivable for victims of child abuse to commit abuse themselves, but perfectly OK if they murder people. Er, what?
As for 'i don't think they'd do it again' - how do they know?! They all admitted being driven by rage. Who's to say they won't go out tomorrow, meet another abuse victim, and pass on some helpful tips?!
Sheesh.
As detectives, I'd expect them to have a passing familiarity with the term 'mitigating circumstances' in a court of law..

Lol! No fences in your house to sit on then Jean? Whilst I take all your points, the acting for me far outweighed any, um, discrepancies in the storyline.

Loved the series and the acting especially Nicola Walker and the victims. While the ending was not what I expected it was one that I thoroughly approved of.

I appreciate this is an old thread, but I have to say I thought Sanjeev was amazing in the finale last night.

Agreed. I’ve never watched it before but this series has had me gripped. Assume it’s carrying on with him at the forefront because of where the focus was last night. Suspect they would have leaked more key events on the front of tv quick & timed stuff differently if that was it.
Edit: just confirmed that it will be back for s.5

I really enjoyed the series, having never seen any of the previous ones and found it quite gripping. The only thing I would say is that I don't get the point of Nicola Walker being in the car accident and dying. It didn't seem to add anything to the plot or storyline. I thought at first one of the suspects might have been behind it, but no, just an accident.
