I've never really seen the appeal in Idina Menzel. While she does have a pretty voice, it is often far too shouty and just very poor technique overall. After hearing her live in NYC, I must say I don't see the appeal that sends the theatre community raving on her performances.
With Elphaba and Elsa she can probably lay claim to have originated the greatest female musical roles of the last 20 years, with a bit of Rent and Glee for extra musical cred. But where she excels is on stage in her own concerts and I suppose you either get it or you don’t.
As a fan I find it a bit annoying that she actually lacking in broadway musical credits, but who knows what’s in the works.
