This Saturday the first episode of 'Let It Shine' will air. It's supposed to be another 'I'd Do Anything', 'Any Dream Will Do' kind of musical theatre casting show. This time with Gary Barlow as the ALW figure. I'm very excited about this because I used to love these shows where talented musical theatre performers performed a bunch of theatre songs every week in the hope of getting the lead in a West End musical. Some great talents got their real start through these shows. For example Rachel Tucker and Samantha Barks got their real start through "I'd Do Anything".
I thought it would be great to have a thread where we can discuss everything that happens on this show in the coming weeks.

I'm intrigued by this - I enjoyed I'd Do Anything (and in fact Rachel and Sam were my favourites the whole way through!), but wasn't a huge fan of the Joseph or Maria ones. I'm going to give this one a chance though.

I'm hoping for a good show, I loved the old musical search star ones and I do love me Gary Barlow and Graham Norton.

I really hope they will sing some showtunes on this show. Hopefully they don't turn it into "let's find the next Take That" instead of casting actors for a musical.

Opening sequence - terrible. Amazing opening number!!! It was hammy, camp, cheesy, tongue in cheek and I LOVED it.

Noting like the ALW ones they used t have. It is trying to be different but is really not that good. It is just every talent show. It is not musical theatre enough for me and the rat singer was a okay. It is too pop music and just ehh.

Oh dear, they're going for the "let's laugh at the rubbish ones" approach.
ALW never did that.

"Dannii Minogues name up in lights in the west end"...
When has this happened ever? How does she still get work?

Oh dear, they're going for the "let's laugh at the rubbish ones" approach. ALW never did that. They've all been put through so far. Another one of these we are pretending all the earlier rounds didn't happen shows.

How are they all getting through? They are not even very good. Based on even supporting actors in the west end they are terrible, how can they we leading men in a musical?

Things I've learned so far: Howard from Take That now looks like John Bishop.

That Jamie was right not to get through. He should go on x factor. Has a solo singer voice not a boyband voice. Certainly not a voice for a boyband on the stage.
Graeme doesn't get it. The audience cheering means nothing. He has to perform in a theatre.

Finally someone didn't go through! "appeared as Esmeralda in the musical production of Notre-Dame de Paris in London's West End." Aparently...I had to google too

5 stars?
What scores they'd give if a real musical theatre quality performer auditioned...

This is not that great so , it could have been great but is just like every other to talent show and they are letting terrible people go through who would never be good leading men in a musical. And do we need another take that musical? Never forget has sadly been forgotten and was not very sucessful. I will now be going to ITV to watch the voice which will hopefully be better as it has Jennifer Hudson going for it and she is actually famous and yeh singer will be good,
