Mildly regretting not picking up tickets to Macbeth now, but with the less-than-stellar sales for the last few Travelex plays I think it's great news that it has sold so well. Fingers crossed the critical opinion matches the sales.

Macbeth is usually on the GCSE syllabus so a public service to put it on.

I think it's great news that it has sold so well. Interesting proof of the theatre superstition, I guess. When box office takes a dive, they bring out the Scottish Play. I know you're jesting but some people might wrongly assume you're making a serious point. This production was announced on 27 January, prior to any of the 2017 Travelex productions in the Olivier Theatre going on-sale.

It doesn't have to be a proof of the theatre panicking though, it can just as easily be seen as proof that the superstitious people are justified because look how well it sells.

For anyone looking to get tickets to Macbeth, a number of dates have popped online again. They're not at the cheapest end though (~£50).
Out of interest, does anyone know about The Great Wave? The blurb sounds really interesting. As far as I can tell it's based on his play 'The Great Wave Off Kanagawa', but I can't find any references online to that play except for the note that it won an award in 2016. Did anyone see the original?

Booked a cheapy for Macbeth but after reading theatremonkey's opinion that it was a vertigo inducing seat, I panicked and splashed out for the stalls. I might return the cheapy if I can.
Two MaccyBs in the space of a month for me with this and the RSC production.

Thanks. That didn't occur to me at all but that seems obvious now that you say it I couldn't figure out why there was this supposed-great play with absolutely no reviews online at all.

That Facebook Update Scanner worked very well on the NT's website for sold out shows - I've got tickets to a near-end-of-run performance but I'm going to use the scanner thing to try and get something earlier. It bings when returns pop up, so very good if you're near a computer - I also noticed returns often pop up in the evenings on the NT site so worth checking then, too.

Facebook update scanner? What’s that? Someone posted about it early in the Mosquitoes thread - it's a thing on Firefox that scans a web page every few minutes (you can adjust it for frequency, so if it's a very sought after show adjust for every 15 mins or even 5 mins, though the latter may make your machine run slowly) and it makes a noise if it finds it has been updated - return tickets back on sale. I applied it to the NT's buy tickets page for a specific play (the long page that has boxes saying 'sold out' by every performance date) and found tickets that way. They can resell quickly though.

Extra Macbeth performances go live for non-members this morning, but I was able to get tickets early using my Amex . Lots of £15 seats in the circle still available for the days I checked

I have been wondering why there are so few new plays from Europe at the National. There seem to be quite a few from the USA or adaptions of films from the USA, but I can only remember 1 from Europe being recently performed. I ask because surely the National has the resources and linguistic ability to discover what the rest of Europe is doing. Is it that Plays from the USA put bums on seats and plays from the EU do not? Or is it because the rest of Europe does not produce anything worth showing at the National? Just a thought. Maybe they could have a showcase at the time of Brexit.

Not many plays in languages other than English have decent translations. Could go the Tartuffe / Opera way and use surtitles. See how well that goes down. Mind you with all the mumbling these days we could do with a bit of electronic help.
There that should get some people going on a Friday morning.
I’m off.

Just booked £15 seats for a March date for Macbeth. Oddly I just had an advert on my Facebook that was advertised as extra £15 tickets for sold out performances and when I clicked on it it took me to the NT’s site with quite a bit of availability on pretty much all dates. Rather odd.

Looks like the witches are pole-dancing from the photos over on whatsonstage... when I first read your post I thought it was about the Roald Dahl Witches and thought first poster was released or something even though it is still far away and was just confused while they would be pole dancing in a family show but. Then I looked and saw it was for Macbeth , pole dancing witches still seems a bit odd.
