I think we all know that Carrie Hope Fletcher should Dick with Danielle Hope as Alice (Danielle's done it in Birmingham this year) and Kerry Ellis should be Fairy Bowbells with Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as Queen Rat Your average punters wouldn't know or care who any of those ladies are though, however talented. And CHF's ego wouldn't fit through the Palladium dock doors. Probably.

Pantomimes always have names in them and the Palladium one needs lots of big names to sell the expensive tickets. I wonder if we're hear the casting abit earlier than we did for the 2016 one?!

On the Really Useful Website it does say star casting to be announced soon. So I do expect an earlier than usual announcement of at least a couple of "names" to get the box office rolling.

The fairy is one of the biggest roles there's so that will obviously have a name. Dick and Alice are likely to have names too and it depends how big they make the role of King Rat but again that will probably have a name too

Normally King/Queen Rat gets a name, Idle Jack gets a name, occasionally the fairy. Although Jodie Prenger is the fairy this year in Birmingham. I doubt it will be so heavily stunt cast as Cinderella was.

The casting of "names" in usually minor roles in a panto can really skew the story though. Obviously the stars have to have the stage time to satisfy the punters but if your Cinderella is not a star and your Dandini is (usually a small role aiding the larger role of the Prince) then the show becomes unbalanced. Cinders at the Palladium barely gets a look in!

I would've said all main characters will be celeb casting probably. The fairy is inevitably going to be a celebrity. Bradley Walsh would make a good Idle Jack

I can see somebody like Kylie Minogue playing Fairy Bowbells - she'd be great and so magical!!

I can see somebody like Kylie Minogue playing Fairy Bowbells - she'd be great and so magical!! Would be wonderful but I highly doubt it. Sales this year have proved that Qdos can fill the Palladium with a good quality cast, but no real A-listers. So I really can't see them paying what they would have to pay to get someone like Kylie, when they can probably fill the Palladium again without her.

Also, Kylie said in her interview with OK! that she is doing another album, thinking about a tour and she also has her annual Christmas Albert Hall show to do... ... isn't that just the gayest thing I have ever typed. but point is, she may be a tad busy.

This year the initial pricing was a little lower, only rising to current prices once casting was announced. Looks like they're going straight in at the higher rates for 2017 relying on the success of Cinderella to sell ahead of the names.

I'd put money on John Barrowman as Dick. He's doing it now in Birmingham.

Yes, I agree. Just seen him in Birmingham. He delivers and still looking trim but getting a little old for the role really. Full of innuendo and the "Dick" jokes wore very thin! His relationship with the Krankies was most odd. Both 69 - she is far too old to be getting away with playing a little boy. At one point Barrowman got into bed (don't ask) with her playing a boy. Not sure what was worse - him getting into a bed with an old woman or a "little boy". It was most bizarre! Let's hope the Krankies don't get the Palladium gig!

I think John Barrowman will be Dick too. But I really hope they don't use the Birmingham cast for this, would be a real downgrade.
They should have big names in all the main roles rather than Steve McFadden and the Krankies. Am interested to see who they do cast in this though after the great cast this year. Would like to see Dick, Alice, Fairy Bowbells, Idle Jack, King/Queen Rat and the Dame all as names.
Bradley Walsh would make a great Idle Jack

"A" List panto stars are in short supply quite honestly. I cannot think of anyone to top Paul O'Grady and Julian Clary. John Barrowman certainly but who else?
Birmingham Hippodrome are doing Cinderella next year so I assume Julian Clary will be doing his Dandini there in the same fabulous costumes!

Birmingham had Julian and Lee last year so I'm not sure if either/both of them would go back next year...though they have had a habit of re-using stars in Birmingham in recent years so who knows!

Julian will probably do Cinderella again and use all those costumes so I would've thought he'd go back but Lee could do any role (Prince, Aladdin etc) so he might go to another Qdos venue. I think John Barrowman will be Dick with either an International star or British Legend (i.e. Joan Collins) as Fairy Bowbells, a comedian as Idle Jack and then other big names as Rat, Dame and Alice but I can't think who would fit what role.

I could see Paul Zerdin becoming their "back my popular demand" cast member next year. And rightly so, as he is pretty fantastic!

I could see Paul Zerdin becoming their "back my popular demand" cast member next year. And rightly so, as he is pretty fantastic! I too could see this because he was fantastic this year and as he is a ventriloquist he can do good scenes like the one he did with the audience at the start of Act 2! But it does depend on whether they want another comedian as Idle Jack as there's lots of famous comedians they could try and get. I think Nigel Havers could make a return as the Royal Tax Collector (isn't he in Dick Whittington?) but they could do the same joke they did this year with him wanting more stage time etc. Apart from them two, I doubt they would bring any other of the cast members from this year back

Long as they don't bring back Count Arthur Strong, who wore very thin very fast with the same crappy joke. He was, for me, the only downside of Cinderella. And it was awkward because the audience would be laughing at any other cast member, but then he came on and no response at all.
Keep him far away!

Nobody laughed at him, I wasn't sure what he was supposed to be doing? Definitely the only wrong casting choice and I doubt he'll being doing panto again. Because the Palladium charge huge prices for their panto I think they'll need a fresh cast that's why I think only 2 cast members could return at the very most. I'd like to see Duncan James play Dick but I think it'll be John Barrowman. Also I Alesha Dixon or Mel B could be either Fairy Bowbells or Queen Rat too with Bradley Walsh or Paul Zerdin as Idle Jack and Ashleigh and Pudsey as Alice (and her dog)?

Duncan james would be a massive downgrade for the palladium.
Id suspect a big name for dick and possibly king/Queen rat and fairy. if they get the right names for these roles they won't (and dont) need to fill every role with a name.

As it looks like FFE have gone bust/been taken over (depending on rumour) it could make next season interesting. I could see Qdos going after some of their bigger venues (Manchester, Liverpool and bristol), not sure they'd want Milton Keynes, Wimbledon etc as they are near some of their other venues
If they do it could mean qdos names being stretched even more across the country, or new names being brought into the qdos fold from ffe

I actually feel sorry for Count Arthur Strong, in the way he dies the death as it were. But going back to Dick Whittington, I have a feeling it may be Barrowman (in which case count me out). I would think they would want experienced panto hands for the Palladium, enticing though some fresh names might be. Anyone fancy Marty Pellow as King Rat? (runs for cover ....)
