I think there's news to come next week on what's actually happening. Might be end of this week but otherwise it's early next.

Jason has been putting himself out there for it. Mentions it all the time. At the Olivers on Michael Ball if they do it, it sounds like its him. Not my favorite.

I hope that it does come back but only if is big. They can't leave Grandad behind because the car is too small!

So this isn't about the recent tour, or any professional productions.
But it seems that the amateur rights have been released as BMOS will present the show at the New Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham this July. This is a first for Chitty, surely?

Will be the first amateur production in the UK. Strangely though, MTI UK still show the rights as unavailable: www.mtishows.co.uk/chitty-chitty-bang-bang

Cue the cardboard cars!!!! A very adventurous show to technically do without a flying car. I’d be interested to see how many of them do it. Amateur shows can often be more creative than pro.

Anyone else picturing six sweaty backstage husbands on the business end of a block and tackle, whilst wife (playing Truly natch and her two kids) fly around in an old Ford Escort with the engine taken out? The skinniest male sixth former that they have will have to play Potts for weight/H&S reasons.

How strange this thread should get resurrected today, reminding me of part of one of the many dreams I had last night, where CCBB reopened in London. It wasn't much of a dream, just walking past a theatre at the CCBB car was parked outside and fenced off with barriers whilst they put signs up. How peculiar.

Sheffield has a production in May. It was only ever going to be Teachers, Croft House or Manor Operatic, and it turns out it's Manor Operatic. They stage all their productions at the City Hall, which is a concert venue, rather than a theatre, so no flying, and limited backstage facilities. Tickets went on sale just this morning.

Anyone else picturing six sweaty backstage husbands on the business end of a block and tackle, I wasn’t, but I am now! 👍 They are all called Gavin and have questionable personal hygeine Burly (especially after the 76th chorus of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’) Best not to get too excited.

CCBB was one of the first musicals I ever saw, with Michael Ball at the Palladium. Programme middle pages including a make it yourself cardboard car. I must find that programme, I never got round to making mine!

I saw this blog post by Scenic Projects about them designing scenery for amdram productions. www.scenicprojects.co.uk/blog/whats-new-for-2018It says (as we have already established) that there will be a few limited amateur companies using it, then there will be a professional UK Tour in 2019 before hopefully being released for more amateur companies.

This truly scrumptious musical is currently on Channel 5...it is a really heart-warming movie...remember being terrified of the child-catcher when it first came out...wonder if it will ever get a revival?

remember being terrified of the child-catcher when it first came out.. I loved Robert Helpmann as the child catcher. I used to do my child catcher act and scare my 3 nieces in my younger days. I can still do a not too bad imitation of his voice: There are children here somewhere ,I can smell them!!!

I have been at home by myself all day today working on a puzzle and this was playing in the background. I really enjoyed re-watching it again.
Such a wonderful story and the film, in many ways, is ahead of its time.

It is indeed a wonderful film, but even as a child I found the whole “Truly Scrumptious” song so nauseating it got me firmly rooting for the child catcher.
Thank goodness the palladium version made this song so much less saccharine!
