I'm finding this quite boring. Enjoying Chris Peluso in a tux but otherwise struggling to focus and not doze. It doesn't help that there's no atmosphere from it being only around 40% sold.

I nearly fell asleep! Left at the interval. The lack of plot did not hold my interest.
Chris Peluso looked and sounded gorgeous though - but the material did not tempt me to stay. Beautifully staged, lit and costumed though. Disappointing.
He will be wasted in Funny Girl as his character has little singing.

I saw this tonight and can agree that this is not a great musical, and doesn't have a large dramatic arc to hold everyone's interest. So not without flaws as a show (perhaps the feel is and sound is a bit too 'samey' from beginning to end. But I loved the production, the high quality cast, the costumes and staging - not to mention the fabulous chaireography! If you liked the soaring melodies of Titanic, Grand Hotel and the music in Nine, then I really think you should see this. And of course, Chris Peluso is a wonderful singer and easy on the eye who shouldn't be missed.
For the money you won't see or hear a better production either on or off the West End, and I have to applaud Thom Sutherland and producers for putting on an original book musical that we wouldn't otherwise see. It deserves an audience if only to ensure that we keep getting to see high quality musical theatre productions at Charing Cross, even if they don't all have the drama and popular appeal that Titanic had.

I felt like the front stalls thinned even more after the interval Yes, I had a £15 ticket in Row R towards the back and was happy with that and then a moment before it started an usher said we could all move forward - so there was a bit of a scramble. I ended up at the front of the back section if that makes sense. A perfect view. But a very sparse audience. It clearly has no appeal - a completely unknown show. I am a musical fan and I had not come across it which is why I wanted to see it. But I found it very samey although a better production of the show I cannot imagine. It was terrifically sung throughout - well the first half anyway. Clearly I was not the only one to escape at the interval!

Totally agree - and I liked it as well, although I did feel like I was being battered to death by the belting of the songs as if each was a showstopper. And why did they shine lights directly into the audience on two occasions, making it impossible to see what was happening on stage?

Saw Death Takes A Holiday this afternoon and I hate to say it but I was bored silly. There was nothing really wrong with the production (cast were great, lighting lovely, songs beautiful if a bit samey) but I found my mind wandering every couple of minutes nevertheless.
The storydidn't click with me at all, the ending seemed abrupt, and I didn't really love any characters.
Oh, and on that tiny stage 6+ chairs is WAY too many chairs!
For me it was disappointing.
Side note - you want to be in the front stalls at this theatre, don't you? I was in row r and I felt miles away!

I know what you mean, I was in row S this afternoon and felt really distant - and the sound levels for Zoe seemed a bit low, especially at the start? Did you see though the woman before the show started in the balcony slips who brought her own fold-down chair with her, that was my highlight over the show. Now, with regard to the show I did like it, but the music just seemed unmemorable, and while there were moments in the music and story that I really loved, I just thought the story was massively dragged out. Whilst I loved the set design, there were a few moments when I thought the set was going to collapse. Zoe and Chris were highlights, especially Chris - he has the seductive charm and an excellent voice, and both acted the part brilliantly. It's just a shame that the parts that they have, in my opinion, are just a bit thin.

Balcony slips are the access seats, she probably needed a particular type of support that other chairs can't give. Of course that's possible, but if I saw correctly I believe the lady managed to carry the chair in herself and move another chair to facilitate the placing of her own chair. Though, I may be completely wrong.

Since we're getting personal that was my wife you are referring to. Yes she has weak back muscles having had CFS for 25 years, and so cannot sit for long in normal chairs. And if you had paid a bit more attention you would see me as the person who carries it everywhere.

"invisible disability." Quite common. It is indeed. It comes in all (invisible) shapes, sizes, forms etc etc Thank you for drawing attention to this, monkey... (Even visible disability is misinterpreted: my friend's MS was often mistaken for her being pissed. Her husband had to explain this to the taxi driver who witnessed her fall out of his cab, from which she had to crawl to the door of a hotel... pitiful. Now she is permanently in a wheelchair she gets a lot more sympathy and understanding.)

Caught this today - absolute wonderful. Thom Southerland at his best. Beautiful score, beautiful set, beautiful orchestrations. Chris Peluso was a particular highlight, in fact I'l be returning to see James Gant once he takes over.
I was in Row Q today and had no qualms with distance. I didn't miss anything and didn't feel far away. Felt that in the dramatic lighting moments, I really got the full impact.
I went in knowing nothing about the show and thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it. I used the £15 deal but would pay much more. Much better than some of the drivel in the West End at the moment!

Really interesting to see that this piece can get different reactions. I for one liked it, but I was surprised when half the matinee audience gave a standing ovation. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it today. Nevertheless I'm glad I gave the todaytix £20 rush ticket a go.

I think I was in about row E for Titanic, which was ok. At the matinee today I was in row C which was too close. The stage is high and I couldn't really get an overview.
Having said that, I enjoyed it. Highlight for me was the song by Eric (?) about watching Roberto's plane going down. Loved that. It reminded me of Love Never Dies with some of the gothic overemotion! Found the last line rather naff. I didn't ovate but certainly glad to have seen it. Nice to see several of the cast who I'd liked in Titanic and laughed at some of the dialogue from the servants.
