Whatsonstage said "Sheridan Smith has made a triumphant return to Funny Girl at the Savoy Theatre" What's the difference between a return and a triumphant return? Who can offer guidance? I'm guessing they were saying a triumphant return in the sense that she has overcome her illness to return to the stage and they wanted to place more emphasis on that than simply saying she had returned.

Whenever I see a reference to something being triumphant there's a part of me left over from childhood that expects it to have involved trumpets and elephants, and possibly trumpet-playing elephants. That part of me always feels slightly cheated when it turns out it didn't. They should have made more of an effort.

I hope they ask Natasha to do the tour (providing she wants to, that is). They might ask her but from what I've heard from producers I know is that it is someone different. Not 100% confirmed yet though. As long it's not a "celebrity face" or regular on the Loose Women panel I'll be happy!

I can't say who though as it isn't confirmed just yet so could all fall through. Regarding Natasha, I think she's been offered different roles now so she might want to explore more roles?

A triumphant return is when someone blows a trumpet before the cast announcement. Darius usually likes to do this but as he was away the trumpeter understudy performed the duties. As they were so good they also got a triumphant trumpeting entrance and so on.. . meaning the show started a good quarter of an hour late.

I think both are equally deserving of it, and if Sheridan keeps the pace up like planned, I can see Sheridan's chances of getting the nod higher if she is able to continue the show now until the end of the run, as she would also of overcome her personal issues and been able to come back to the show.
The flipside, I would find it travesty if Sheridan is not nominated. Especially if Sheridan is going to be playing it for three months (longer than Natasha played it full time) and is doing so having just come back off a break due to exhaustion.
In regard to Sheridan not being as strong has Natasha on her first show or two back, I don't really know what people were expecting to happen? The reason they scheduled her to have a week of on/off performances was so she could ease back in and get her voice and acting back into the role. You could argue she should of been prepared before she stepped on stage, but things change once you are in front of an audience. The role is difficult to say the least, as you sing most of the songs, have to dance, go from comedy to drama at the drop of a hat, its not a surprise she hasn't come back as strong just yet. Give her a few weeks to get back into it.
Now that she is back, I think the chances of Sheridan Smith getting the Olivier nod and winning it are all but guaranteed. It's like when Elizabeth Taylor came back from the dead and won the Oscar for 'Butterfield 8' although it clearly was not her best performance or the best of the year. Sympathies will be with Sheridan all the way. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they nominate Natasha Barnes too and they end up sharing the win. I can see photos on the front pages of the newspapers, both of them laughing and clutching their awards . . . "Funny Girls!" "Don't Rain On Their Parade" "They're The Greatest Stars" Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera (all done in my best Yul Brynner voice)

As much as anything I can't see any strong competition for the Olivier this year

How amazing would that be, two ladies in the same role at the same time winning!

I have some huge exclusives myself, courtesy of my good mates, let’s call them Andrew and Bill.
Sadly, they’ve asked that I don’t reveal who is in show X or what will be coming to theatre Y. Suffice it to say, however, that both productions will have some singing and dialogue in them. And here’s my exclusive casting news – each show will have a cast!
Move over Baz, your time is up!

Will the cast be made up of performers or will it use local tradespeople?

Did the producers phone you up to let you know George? Aha no. I'm friends with several producers due to me being an aspiring producer and planning shows. They emailed me if you must know without making sarky comments What was the point in you coming on here to say that you knew something but couldn't tell us? It came across as quite arrogant. Shows are always in the process of being cast, so what was our reaction meant to be? For someone that claims to be so well connected and planning shows, you do seem quite naive about how things work. Curiouser and curiouser...

Goodness. All this reaction to a harmless post about casting for the 'Funny Girl' tour. No, there wasn't a lot of meat on the bones of George's post but is there really a need for some of the responses? A little good natured joshing is usually OK but some of it does seem to veer into being a touch nastily personal. It's very disappointing and not especially pleasant to see.
Perhaps if something as simple as George's post has that kind of effect on one, maybe it's better to ignore it altogether or step away and think a bit before posting a hasty reply that may not have the meaning one actually intended.

Curiouser and curiouser... I don't understand why whatever I say either comes across a derogatory or someone has to make derogative remarks about what I post. Also, Nelly, you are very rude. You can't say that I'm naive, arrogant about how things work as it don't know me know my backstory. Maybe if you met me or you knew all about me or you knew what I do at the moment then you could say that, but you don't. I simply said it in a optimistic way, trying to be jovial and kind but then you have to come along and ruin that or interpreter it the wrong way. If you don't like me (which i dont know how you could say as you don't know who I am) then that's fine; i dont really mind but stop questioning or making remarks about my posts. You dont know me or know what I do or anything going on with me and prodded to say something like that. are meant to be nice fellow theatre lovers, a lot of you are white rude and drive people away from the board.

I do apologise if people think I've overstepped the mark. I can also only comment on what people put out there of themselves. When someone has constantly been told or hinted at (politely) about their constant posting of the same stuff and is just plainly ignoring it (which of course they are free to do) then you have expect a bit of backlash.
George, a message to you; you'll find in previous posts to you I've also tried to be helpful and offer words of encouragement to you but mostly I come on this thread or other threads and see the same thing over and over from you.I do try and avoid it but when it's everywhere and constant, which it seems to be, you have to understand that it can also be frustrating. I will make a conscious effort to rein it in and I hope that you do to.

Why can't people get along and love each other, Christmas Eve?
This place, this thread in particular is acting worse than some of the teenagers I work with sometimes.
I look forward to hearing who the chosen Fanny will be when it's announced in due course. Until then we can speculate that, or continue to discuss the performances SS and NJB are putting on in London.
I'm looking forward to seeing my fourth Fanny 13 months when the tour hits Bristol (having finally seen the film). That's four more than the last 29 years of my life.
