That is some news you have been hoping for George, take it while you can! Yeah I'm glad something has been confirmed! Means we'll have to change our date to July or August but that's not a big deal! My grandparents have recently swapped them too Hate to bust your bubble, but you may need to look at the tweet again. It wasn't confirmed, they said the producers were hoping it would be around that date.

I didn't mean to say it like that, I know it's still strong speculation but if it's true then we can change. No big deal for us to change at all. I'm surprised she'll be off for 2 months

End of the day, I would rather she be happy and healthy mentally and physically than try to push herself into doing the show. And with Natasha getting positive responses, at least the show is currently in good hands. Recovery for stress and exhaustion can vary from person to person, clearly the break was needed and hopefully is doing her good.

At the show now (its the interval, not being rude and typing as the show plays on).
Natasha is phenomenal...I honestly don't see how Sheridan could be better.

Have there been any more "technical issues" with the set whilst she was away, or is it all miraculously fixed now? You're terrible Muriel... Love love LOVE that film!

ATG tickets replied to a tweet about her being back 4th July: "It's not 100% confirmed but that's what the producers are hoping. Stay tuned for more info!" That's 2 months! Isn't that just ATG tickets replying to someone who they think has tickets for that date, just saying they are hoping she will be back then rather than saying that day will be her first day back?

mrbarnaby has been correct on many previous occasions with the "inside" track of shows going to certain theatres and casting information ahead of the crowd and I expect he is right on this occasion too.
I find it astonishing that Sheridan Smith who is not only a talented actress but has demonstrated a hugely professional work ethic in the past and has worked with such focus and determination in her career to get where she is, at a great personal cost to her private life, should seemingly throw all this away having achieved star status in a West End musical. Funny Girl would not have been produced without her.
It is one thing to have a week or so off for the flu, but after such a long haitus it would be very difficult for her to go back now even if she is fit. The cast will have bonded around Natasha and continued working 8 shows a week without her.
I am glad I saw her (twice) at the Menier (I have seen her in all her stage work) as I think it will be a while before she is on stage again preferring to concentrate on TV and film which has different disciplines and more out of the public spotlight.

Let's face it they would not be ramping up publicity around 'tasha if the Queen Bee was buzzing her way back to the hive. She ain't coming back. Frankly they have no reason to change who they have. Saw it today and Natasha is excellent. She did what Amy Lennox did in Legally, when she got to go on for Sheridan - sang it with a bit wider range, acted it brilliantly, with probably a bit of change in emphasis, and got the Sheridan salute standing ovation at the end - where everyone stood up as one when she took her bows. Poor Natasha was crying at the response. Leave well alone and just find another cover just in case. You would get something a bit different with Sheridan, but its a bit swings and roundabouts, and there's very few people I have heard sing the big numbers with a better sound than Natasha, and they are unavailable,- I would highly recommend the show with Natasha in it as lead. Sheridan's situation with her father logically doesn't get better, unless he gets better. The pressure otherwise gets worse, and unpredictability takes over. I took a weekend off for a dying parent, miles away from work, and ended up off work for a month, and multiple false alarm later. She would do better to concentrate on doing what she can there, and sorting out her own health.

Parents don't die on schedule , nor is treatment predictable, nor can you commute to the the end of the country to care for them. Its either or, and in that case, either wins. Nor do humans respond rationally to stress or emotion - no actor is going to be able to act emotions that trigger the ones they are feeling, cope with the stress of need to be in two places at once, or control their hormones when they are swirling around. In Sheridan's case, this is almost certainly worse because she's already been through the experience with a brother, and with Lisa Lynch - knowing what may be coming may not help. You do what you have to, and you can't do whats impossible.

So what the producers should do now is stop stringing people along.

As the "four weeks" is now up, I think an official announcement must be made.

Completely agree with this, they have the perfect leading lady on stage at the moment and a good marketing angle to push about seeing a star in the making, a little bit of West End history being made etc. It's time to announce Sheridan's not coming back and get Natasha's name in lights above the Savoy. The reaction Natasha is getting when she takes her bows is so well deserved. It must be a great feeling, knowing that people in the audience have booked expecting to see Sheridan, many of whom may not have even been there had Sheridan not been cast, but then seeing that sort of reaction from the audience and knowing you've completely won them over and given them a fantastic evening regardless. Certainly last Friday Natasha looked overwhelmed at the response.

Has it occurred to anyone that this probably isn't some massive conspiracy, but in all likelihood the producers don't actually know when/if she's coming back?
I imagine the scenario is something like:
- SS is contracted to the role. - Her agent/management have told the producers she's unable to perform for personal reasons, she'll be back in 2-4 weeks hopefully but this depends on her health and isn't a fixed time period. - She is in a tight contract and can't just be fired/let go/replaced without her blessing, so the producers essentially have to wait it out and see what SS/her management decide is best for her. - Meanwhile, they have a show to sell and punters to keep happy, so they have to subtly promote Natasha Barnes at the theatre and in interviews and remind everyone she's an excellent stand-in, but not too much, because they have no idea if she'll be taking over the role completely yet and may need to abandon that angle if/when SS returns.

I agree 100% with BurlyBeaR. If the producers have been notified that Sheridan is not coming back at all/ not coming back till July they should make a public announcement.
If Sheridan is not coming back Natasha is not currently filling the role of an understudy; she is a replacement.
Continuing to promote the show with Sheridan's name and/ or face is false advertizing if they are fully aware she will not perform.
On the subject of being a fitting replacement, I think the romantic idea that an understudy has stepped in at the last minute will become old-hat quite quickly and the show will merely become an adequate revival rather than a must-see star turn.

Is she? Say who? She wasn't even in a contract, tight or otherwise when it was at the MCF, and it was at the END of the run when that little titbit got thrown out to the masses on Twitter. Remember? It was when she was slagging of her producers...

Are we still speculating "will she or won't she?"
No-one knows.
But I doubt she'll return.

It was when she was slagging of her producers... Of course she's in a contract, it's a job, therefore she has an employment contract. No organisation as big as a theatre production company is going to rely on an oral contract alone - I would have thought that was obvious. And any contract negotiated and drafted by any self-respecting lawyer will be tight, especially in circumstances where the production is being marketed on her name.
