When I was in New York I visited the museum of the City of New York's Yiddish theatre exhibition. It traces the history of Yiddish theatre in New York and its influence on English-language theatre, including musicals like Fiddler on the Roof and Funny Girl.
They had some films of old performers playing on a loop. At one one point I wandered around the corner into the section with the films playing and went 'oh, it's Fanny Brice'. I've never seen films of Fanny Brice or looked at photos of her, my instant recognition was entirely based on Sheridan's performance in Funny Girl.
I then had a weird double-take moment of realising that I didn't actually know whether it was Fanny or not! The sense of recognition was uncanny, though.

Been saying it for ages. Bring My Man into it and bloody KILL IT. It's the obvious end to the show. Oh God no. Sheridan can hardly sing the rest of the score, don't let her kill off another great song!

Best of luck to Sheridan at the BAFTA Awards tonight. Heres hoping she wins and can go back to the show tomorrow with another BAFTA under her belt.

See and most of the above is my main problem with people's views on this show, Sheridan is not playing Barbara Streisand, she is playing Fanny Brice and there's a strong possibility that maybe if people could realise this before seeing it, they might enjoy it more! I don't need her to play Streisand - I need her to play a STAR. Otherwise, there is no story here. It's just a very boring, 'girl loses a rather middling man' story. I don't understand your point, Brice was a star for being funny, Smith is also very funny and also a star. Are you saying that you don't want the pathos? Because that's the bit written into the show that shows the Brice she didn't reveal to the public. Streisand is not part of the equation, she played the role, she twisted it to fit her.

Did anyone else hear Graham Norton's dig at the Television awards. He said ''or as they say a couple of glasses of Technical difficulties.''

Even though Sheridan didn't win tonight, she looked incredibly tired tonight. When Suranne won, the camera panned to Sheridan and even though she was smiling and seemed happy for her, she looked incredibly tired. Maybe the role is more of a strain than most would think?
I can understand it being tiring completely, it seems a very difficult role to do every night.

Maybe it was an attempt to garner sympathy. Tiredness can usually be hidden...

Sheridan was probably a little bit disappointed the show didn't win, she wanted it for Lisa. It was also probably quite an emotionally draining night for her remembering the whole experience, as let's not forget, her current situation with her dad.

I read her response as disappointment too, she didn't look particularly tired to me and looked perkier at other times the camera panned to her.

Have you seen her subsequent comments accusing press of bullying her.

The press will print anything to sell a paper, whether there is any truth in it or not, they will print whatever they want with no care as to how it affects the person in question. Most journo's and paper owners are scum, just out to make money without a care in the world, as long as they get paid they don't care who they take down in the process. She can't really win though cos if she had sat there all smiles and congratulations for the winners they'd have said she was over acting to cover it. Also wasn't this thread meant to be about the show and not about Sheridan herself? Maybe it should be brought back to that.
Anyone been recently?

Sheridan is missing tonight's performance. Natasha Barnes playing the role again. I'm not surprised at all. She really didn't look very well last night.
I hope she gets well again soon as she really is incredible in this role!

Sheridan is missing tonight's performance. Natasha Barnes playing the role again. Seriously? Mind you, I don't blame her because the BAFTAs were on till quite late last night. Is this the first time she's missed a performance since its transferred?? Really hope she finishes the run, seeing it in June so she should be in still then. She he said that she is going to move to America after Funny Girl on Twitter, really hope she doesn't go!!

I expressed my concerns about such a gruelling schedule all the way through to October earlier in this thread. Didn't imagine it would happen so soon.
Monday night.... If you were going to choose a night to be off it would be Monday or Tuesday right?
Seriously I don't think it's a reasonable expectation of the producers for her to perform that schedule. In fact I find it quite hard to believe they really think she can deliver and I wonder if there is some sort of understanding that the understudy will go on as and when. They can't publicise this of course because the whole show is sold on Sheri's name.
As for moving to America.... More rubbish. The USA does not need Sheridan Smith. Someone get this girl off Twitter. She is her own worst enemy.

I'm feeling the need to do a Chris Crocker and make a YouTube video. "Leave Sheridan Alone!"

Does she not also have filming commitments though? I believe she was filming a TV show in the daytime during the Menier run, and doing FG in the evening?

precisely - eight shows a week. Come on! The six shows a week/alternative nonsense started back with Evita, and it must have been even more gruelling in earlier days without the aid of microphones. Maybe staging has moved up a notch, with more physicality in each, maybe.

Or, funnily enough, she could just be ill. People are so fast to jump on the band wagon of "SHE CAN'T HANDLE THE ROLE" but this is the first show she is missing since the transfer and it is just one performance. For all we know, she could be back on stage tomorrow better than ever. People get ill, give her a chance. People like Emma Hatton don't get this level of negativity, and she has missed numerous shows all over the place. Granted, she has done the role full time for over a year now but she has missed a lot.
If Sheridan continuously missed ala Heather Headley then I could understand the whole complaint of clearly she can't handle it. But she has missed one show. Give the poor girl a chance. She looked ill last night, its no surprise. And I am sure all this negativity is doing nothing for her to help mentally.
