No, not THAT C word.... i'm talking about christmas!
I'm really not a big fan of Christmas AT ALL. It's just another day. So much hype and build up to 1 day.... if you have kids, great! but as an adult i've become a big old grinch!
But i LOVE a good carol or christmas sing song.
What are you favourites for this time of year? Mine have to Good King Wenceslas, Wham's Last Christmas, and of course this, that gets put up on this board every year. Its basically traddition now!

We need a Little Christmas from Mame and Sleigh Ride are my favourites.
Christmas isn't Christmas without The Muppet Christmas Carol, Arthur Christmas and Love Actually

This is one of my favourites (Spiritualized's version at the Barbican a few years back brought a tear to my eye, I'm not ashamed to admit)

Ironically - given that I find Xmas an irritating hiatus in my otherwise active year, and that I'm an atheist - the thing I really would enjoy is singing carols, but of course I don't get the chance. They are all so firmly embedded in my memory from childhood but I never get the opportunity to belt them out.

Did anyone else sing descant harmonies when they were younger?? Carols like Once In Royal Davids City, Hark The herald and Oh Come all Ye faithful have fantastic harmonies to them. Having been brought up a catholic, the only time i'll step into a church now is for carols.

I was in the school choir at primary school, and my favourite was always 'Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel' because of its descant.

Carols are pretty much the only hymns I like. Joy to the World is one of my favourites along with Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Carols are the best Christmas songs. You can keep your pop nonsense, give me Hark The Herald Angels Sing complete with descant and I'm happy 'til New Year.

I am currently belting out Carol of the Bells and O Holy Night on a regular basis (I mean I have to know them for choir seasonal concerts but they are also *SO* Christmasy)

I'm off to the Royal Albert Hall next Thursday to see John Rutter's Christmas concert. I can't wait to hear Hark the Herald Angels Sing with fanfare.

His mum was in the changing room and he stood in the doorway and sang to me and the lady on the till. Melted my heart.

That takes me back to wearing a tea towel on my head, wearing a cotton wool beard at my primary school nativity! The chorus on We Three Kings is great for kids.

When I was a kid one of our school plays had "MC Pudding" rapping to a Christmas version of 'You Can't touch this'
Ah the late 80s...

Dara O'Briain's stand up routine on Navitity plays is golden.
My favourite version of While Shepherds watched their flock was from The Vicar of Dibley:
While Shepherds watched their flock by night All sitting by a bank An angel who was bored came down and taught them how to...MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Two days ago, I made a family visit and took the opportunity to drop off a load of Xmas presents for them and their children and grandchildren. In return, I came away with a pile of cards and one large wrapped present.
So, yesterday afternoon I settled down to watch the UK Snooker quarter-final live on tv and I was drawn to the wrapped present, thinking it would probably be edible. There was no label on it, so I couldn't be sure exactly which family member had given it to me but it was probably the aunt and uncle who I'd visited, which I could confirm later if I didn't receive any other Xmas present from them.
So I unwrapped my first Xmas present of the year and it turned out to be a novelty M&S musical Xmas tree tin, containing packets of shortbread in the shape of mini Xmas trees. So I sat munching my way through the first packet, watching the snooker, until the phone rang. It was my aunt, who was terribly sorry but thought she should let me know that there wasn't a label on the present she'd passed on to me but it was to be delivered by me to my sister and was from her granddaughter.
Christmas ...

Last Christmas by Wham Pogues one, obviously Johnny Mathis, when a star is born. Hairs on the back of the neck stuff when that gets played

Where was this video from? I love it! Kept expecting the Phantom to appear at out of the stairs though! The video comes from a TV special for Save The Children, back in 1988. Lots of West End cast's such as Les Mis, Starlight, Chess (on the original light up chess board!) and Phantom each did a carol from the set of their show. Its great to see it again, but the Phantom video has always stayed with me. Its a fantastic performance. The whole thing can be watched here:

I had a CD of something similar with the casts of Les Mis, phantom and loads more doing carols which was always the soundtrack to my Christmas but sadly lost it when my ex took it. Edit- I think the cd was actually part of the same project as the Les Mis, Chess and Paul Nicolas songs are identical.
