Years ago I had Donmar membership for two years. The membership then lapsed. When something exciting was announced ( Coriolanus, King Lear?) I tried to get a cheap membership and was advised the low price ones were sold out. I could not afford to go for the membership that was available. I was also advised that I could go on the waiting list for the cheapest membership. I did not bother. Years have passed. Less than an hour ago I received an email from Donmar regarding becoming a friend. If booked before 30/11/16, for £75 membership, I can get not only all the perks but two tickets for Henry IV at Kings Cross. I will not be taking up the offer. New season has not excited me.

Donmar is a funny one. I've been a member for years, largely for the advance booking. When there were productions like Othello with a starry cast I was able to bring my whole family and get wonderful seats, which was great. But it became more expensive, the shows became dodgier, you could only get two seats and the front row was taken away, so I let it lapse. About six months later, I thought, maybe I would like priority booking so rejoined but...it was treated as a renewal (possibly because of what Alnoor mentioned above - the cheapest membership not available to new members - I don't know, they didn't say. I just know when I renewed there were only six months left on the membership.) So I decided to let it lapse again. Too often when I book it's just because I feel I should use the membership and not because I think I couldn't get tickets otherwise.
But interesting that they are doing offers on membership.

My first membership was also at the time of Othello. It was brilliant. I used to get great seats. Little by little, however, this changed, and in the end I invariably got the last seats in the lateral rows. The rather restricted view I got for City of Angels made me drop the membership. I live in Dublin and can only fly to London to see shows on weekends. I understand these are the busiest days for theatres and it's harder to give everybody a good seat. So I gave up. It's NT and Almeida for me these days. It is curious that I never had a similar problem with the Almeida.

Brilliant and thanks for that.
So I have membership for the Almedia and National (Basic). So assume I would be aloud 2 tickets.
I only ever go to the theatre by myself, so always have a wasted ticket potential, so would be cool to buddy up with so,some and get the other half of their membership and the Donmar would be excellent, whilst they could take advantage of my Almedia/National membership.
Hope that doesn't sound convoluted and be great if there is a taker.

I'd consider an Almeida membership but only on the condition that the money is spent paying someone to sort out that completely fugly website.

It's a nice thought, Ryan, but it will probably cost more than £75 to convince the developer to even consider getting out of bed for this :-)

Give me half an hour with Geocities Page Builder, I can knock you up something better than the existing one.

They did recently hire a new developer, who "fixed" (we'll see just how fixed it is next public booking day) the ticket booking system, so maybe the rest of the website is next on the list. I'm not that bothered by it though, it's poorly designed but I'm used to using it.

Well they've failed at the first hurdle for me by failing to attach my membership to my ATG account, so although I got the email about Priority Booking, no performances are showing. My ATG details just show Friends Member (2014), which is when I let it lapse. Currently on hold on the phone...

I had a similar problem last year - I emailed membership and they were helpful.

After half an hour on hold to the booking line, called the Development Office on another phone to see if they could resolve the issue on my account. They had no idea but helpfully booked the seats for me. However by that time, and giving a couple of dates for each show, nothing front-facing in stalls. At least this will be the last time with ATG so they don't have to fix the problem. Bring Back Front Row! £315 for two at three shows and no centre stalls for any of them...
(Oh and I rejoined the day before the HIV ticket offer so didn't get them either)

Been on the phone a while. So tried website. No decent seats for the performances I wanted and then when I did click a couple of tix for May, they wouldn't let me add to basket. How much do I want to see these plays, Limehouse and Uri? Not that much. Well, do enjoy all you young things.....good luck with understanding Limehouse, prob as easy to grasp as Henry VI part One. I'm not bitter.

Having started this thread I have taken a keen interest in the responses. I have made a decision this morning, which is as follows: I will see shows at Donmar if I get tickets However, I will never get a Donmar membership again.

I'm not bitter. Noooooo! I thought at least if they had scrapped the Front Row Scheme I could console myself with the thought that Lynette was actually getting to sit there! This is just wrong on so many levels! Bring back the days when they sent out the booking forms by post and you had to give 3 different possible dates, enclose a blank cheque (with maximum amount specified?) and then hurry to the post box and send back first class and they put you in order of received forms.....it wasn't so very long ago! Plus always used to get front facing stalls and membership was only £30!

Yes, I'm all for stamps and envelopes and stuff! I had to call the membership office in the end because the website would not let me add tix to my basket. So very patient person eventually did the booking for me and I have tix for Limehouse and Arturo Uri. Already had St Joan from precious booking period. Odd system... But ain't getting front row tix. Both pairs in Row D on the side. I know, I know, v small theatre and even I will be able to see from there but for those of you who don't have a membership but are waiting for general opening, there weren't any other tickets left at all for the dates I asked for- one Thursday and one Saturday night. So you could say that booking is brisk. Very patient person did say that for £350 Copper level I would get better seats...and for £1000 I could sit on Lenny Henry's lap. No she didn't say that but you get my drift.
