This is a new territory for me. So far I've listened to and loved 'Alan Cumming sings sappy songs' and Laura Benanti at 54 Below. What live musical theatre performer/composer albums can you recommend? Thanks x

I love Jarrod Spector - A Little Help from my Friends and Danielle Hope - Bring the Future Faster (those two are actually my favourites from the Live At 54 Below series). Also, Lea Salonga - The Journey So Far (Live at Cafe Carlyle) and Susan Egan - Live.

Any of Bobby Short’s recordings from the Café Carlyle, New York. After rock steamrollered all other forms of popular music he kept alive the flame of the American Popular Song. Saw him once at The Green Room, Café Royal. Such power, such diction, such style. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Short

Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hair, Catch me if you can, Hands on a hardbody, On the town) also recently recorded a concert at 54 Below, and it's a very enjoyable one. Great vocals, with a nice mix of genres and plenty of fun anectodes thrown in for good measure. And a rather memorable, gospel infused song about fried chicken...

I've really been enjoying Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp'as live at 54 below currently-it's a really fun concert as well as having some great recordings (from Adam especially) and of course Rent classics!

Still waiting for the CD to be delivered from amazon.com, but going by the track list, there's too much Rent and too little Memphis on the recording. I had so hoped for an Adam Pascal rendition of Memphis lives in me.

I had so hoped for an Adam Pascal rendition of Memphis lives in me. Personally I enjoyed that Adam chose more unusual songs for his set-but I also know what you mean I'd love to have a proper recording of Memphis lives in me. And I'd imagine both for concerts and recordings Rent is what the fans want.
I reviewed the recording for The Reviews Hub but it's not up yet.

I'm not a real Renthead and hugely preferred Memphis and thought that Adam Pascal was a much better Huey than Chad Kimball. At least there is this HQ video:

I adored him in Memphis- haven't seen Chad but I certainly liked Adam more than Killian (and I love Killian) he was brilliant in the role.
