The ending to the title song is just so beautiful. Those harmonies with the drum roll at the end has me playing it on loop!

"You Could Drive a Person Crazy" is going to be my wake up tune from now on, I can sense it now.

Sorry - and I appreciate that this will be heretical - but I don't like it.
I was really willing to give it a real go. But none of the tracks I have sampled so far work for me. The new orchestrations aren't helping, the changes to the vocal lines and harmonies are jarring.
I have probably spent too long enjoying the existing versions that this just feels uncomfortable to me.
I know this is my problem. I genuinely was willing to like it - but I don't think I can. Let those who love it, revel in it. I shall stick to Elaine et al.

Wow. So I really love it based on what I've listened to so far. I decided to go for the ones I wanted to hear desperately first, which were the title number, Not Getting Married, the Nightclub, Marry Me and Being Alive and I love them all. Jonathan sounds great and I think the visual sense of the scene of course is needed, but it's a great performance from him considering he is stood in a booth. I actually think, dare I say, I prefer the way he sings it to other recordings. The title number is amazing! I love it. I'm thrilled the Nightclub is in there, it just throws the image of Jonathan in there. Rosalie sounds amazing! I'm so happy with this so far.

OK - I am quite liking Someone is Waiting. And Sorry-Grateful sounds lovely.
But The Ladies Who Lunch is too staccato and spiky for me. Perhaps it works in performance better than audio.

Just had a listen to Not getting married. Sounds great, but definitely needs the staging to accompany the song to give it that energy and humour. I completely agree. Jonathan's performance is spectacular and listening to it is just not as a fulfilling experience as a standalone song. Also..accent. I've only sampled bits and bobs of the recording, so I don't have much input otherwise. I just downloaded it and will listen throughout the day.

Listening to the cast recording this morning, and checking my school’s website for news of whether the snow has caused closure... as I refresh the website I see the six magic words “School closed today due to snow.” At the exact same time that the lyrics “Bless this day, pinnacle of joy...” are playing. I’m not spiritual at all but I definitely believe that was no coincidence!

Has anyone else noticed that Ladies who Lunch is different than the version they played on the radio a few weeks ago? She growls less towards the end and sings it more.

Really impressed with the new cast recording. The new orchestrations give another reason to listen over and above the gender switches and the sound mix is incredible. Sounds great. Thank God after the really rather messy and disappointing new Follies recording.

What kind of monsters are you all, skipping to individual tracks and not allowing the whole thing to unfurl in sequence? I'm a li'l bit shook...

I'm only a little bit joking when I say you should probably put that under a spoiler warning. Obviously it's not a spoiler, but give people the choice to opt out of reading it, 'cos now that's all I can hear too!

[...] although for me the definitive one - sorry, Beth Howland - is Veanne Cox on the 1995 Broadway revival album. She nails the sheer terror underpinning the song, she's all the funnier for NOT going completely over-the-top and overplaying the laughs, and her diction is astonishing. I think she's also the only recorded Amy who sings the melody absolutely correctly. How strange, your post has made me realise I’ve never listened to this cast recording! I just hopped over to SondheimGuide.com and was surprised to read this production had 43 preview performances before a run of 60 - that’s quite unusual, isn’t it? Also surprised to read the choreography was by Rob Marshall. I’ll listen to the Veanne Cox version later tonight - would you recommend the rest of the album?

It was presented by the Roundabout Theatre Company, which means it played a scheduled limited run, after which it didn't transfer. It was quite common even then for productions in New York's nonprofits to play a few weeks of previews before they let the critics in, so what to British eyes looks like a bit of an imbalance between the number of previews and the number of regular performances actually isn't all that unusual. It didn't transfer mostly because Boyd Gaines, the leading man, had terrible vocal problems during the run (although he doesn't sound bad on the album) and missed a lot of performances on doctor's orders; there was talk of recasting, but the reviews for the production as a whole weren't wonderful, and there wasn't much momentum for a transfer without Mr. Gaines.
The album is OK, with a few very nice performances on it - the highlights are Veanne Cox's Getting Married Today and LaChanze's Another Hundred People. It was revelatory at the time because you could hear the counterpoint in the opening number far more clearly than you can on the 1970 recording, but it's probably not going to be anybody's definitive recording of this material.

Veanne Cox is a sorely under rated talent, I've just listened to her version again and sf describes her version to a tee. She was tremendous in Caroline Or Change too.
I never did post anything about the show which I saw two weeks ago tonight as I didn't feel I had much to add to the generally positive words on here. It is exceptionally good. my friend had no prior knowledge of the show and was surprised when I told her of the gender swap and I was impressed with how seamlessly that was done. I'd love to make a return trip, if finances allow.

Been listening to the album throughout the day and am enjoying it thoroughly, side by side is proabably the highlight for me. Really hope they release a vinyl for this as I would happily buy.
