Company

I managed to get a rush ticket to the matinee today. Really loved it, great characters, great set (loved her red dress against the very plain colours of the set). As a single woman in my 30s it was a tad depressing! Rosalie is fantastic, I was a bit sad her songs are quite dull compared to the others. Anyway, that's my mishmash of thoughts.

So thanks to the advice from this board I’ve finally booked in for my first west end show! Front row of the grand circle for £19.50, really looking forward to it. Huge thanks to everybody here who’s posted their experiences with seats and more importantly how much they loved the show, you managed to persuade me at least!

Finally got myself tickets to go see this in January. Can't believe I resisted this long!

So you're saying one of the great songs of musical theatre, 'Being Alive', is quite dull?

I forgot to say last night an understudy, Grant Neal, was on for Harry (? the one who smokes the joint) and did a fantastic job. I gathered it wasn't planned he would be on that night and the complexity of the 'Side by Side' number alone would be so daunting. He was obviously someone who really prepared and he looked delighted at the curtain call.

I didn't find anything in this dull. Some of the changes improved the piece and some worked a little less well (Joanna's 'offer' at the end, for example) but the staging was magnificent. Endlessly inventive but not just for inventiveness' sake but also to mine new ideas (section where Bobby imagines all the different futures/relationships she could have, for example.)

Would like to see it again.

I think the problem is that her interpretation is more introspective and less obviously passionate than many others.

Those expecting loads of 'angst' would probably find this less satisfying in comparison.

Throwing my 2c in, Craig's Being Alive has been a resident earworm for the past fortnight. I agree that it is quite an introspective interpretation but I feel that it works in this revision of the show as it's a reflection of her character throughout.

Some seats in mid dress circle are going for £35 (40% off). I'm tempted to pick some up for my second visit or should I hold out for cheaper day seats or rush tickets? What kind of luck have people been getting on mid-week evening shows?

Cast Album recording has started today. Very much looking forward to the doc. Wonder how revealing it will be.... If there will be a repeat of the 'Ladies who Lunch'-saga with LuPone replacing Stritch going through many many takes and Sondheim in the background getting more angsty and reactive. Hope they have a camera on him for the duration.

I saw it on Tuesday night and I’ll keep it short and sweet, because so many things were already said that I don’t want to repeat what others said.
This is probably the best piece of theatre I have ever seen. It has everything: a fantastic cast, great direction, neon, Patti LuPone, gay couple represented on stage, abs, breath-taking staging and choreography of “Tick-Tock”. It’s witty, it’s sad, it’s funny.
I really hope I’ll get to see it again in February and that the previously mentioned rumours about NTLive would be a true blessing.

Oh to be a fly on the wall for the recording. I was semi-expecting some behind the scenes instagram stories.

Saw this on Saturday and adored it. What a pure joy to watch and not a weak link in the cast in my opinion.
