Agree completely. Given I’m in the same position, and this is the first I’ve heard of it. I don’t book previews for a reason, and given the run isn’t sold out it would have been courteous to get in touch and offer a switch if preferred. Seeing a preview is exciting and it may be tweaked here and there, but overall it should be pretty much frozen by then. I hear your complaint and I'm sure if you call DM, they would happily switch you.
Not the point. I know I could change the ticket myself if I chose. The issue is that they changed the nature of what I purchased - I bought a ticket to a finished product, not to work-in-progress - and therefore the onus is on the box office to inform people who'd booked for those performances of the change.
That they have chosen not to do so reveals a great deal about their attitude towards their customers.

Maybe you could ring them and ask for the tickets to be changed to a non preview date? Out of all ticket outlets I have found DMT to be a pleasure to deal with. Always very accommodating.

That is annoying.

For this though they are not calling them previews (and they are not discounted). There is just a 'performances begin' date. This is increasingly common. All they have done is moved the press night (which I guess they can).
Just playing devil's advocate.
Of course if the show wasn't ready for full price performances that would be different. I think this will be though!

Gosh, I'd never have thought of that myself.
As I said in the post you quoted and presumably chose not to read,I know I could ring up and ask to change the ticket - incurring a fee for doing so - and that isn't the point. Moving the press night changes the nature of what I purchased, and it's basic courtesy to inform customers of that change. And they didn't.
And in any case, while I could change the theatre ticket, doing so would simply raise another problem: I don't live in London, and I cannot then change the nonrefundable train ticket I'd already purchased when I learned the performance was now going to be a preview.

They can, and it isn't just them - plenty of producers do it these days - and I'm afraid it still suggests a certain contempt for the paying audience. Theatre tickets are expensive, and customers have the right to know when they are paying for unfinished work.

I did read your post, I wouldn’t have quoted it if I hadn’t. As I said DMT have always been very accommodating. I personally have had an occasion that they made an error in my booking and they corrected it without forcing any additional cost on me which is why I suggested you ring up, explain the situation and see what they say. I was only trying to help. Enjoy the show.

I don’t think it’s worth getting your knickers in a twist over. The show will have been running for 2-3 weeks by the time you see it and it’s not a brand new musical so not that much will be changing at that late stage.

I'm just telling you, whoever is doing their social media has it down. I can honestly say it's the best I've seen done for a musical, let alone one that didn't even open yet.

Is it just me or does this production feel more of an event as time has gone on? I don't know if it's just this board, or promotion or whatever, but it feels alot more exciting now that it is so close and just so big. Hopefully, for me anyway, the hype and excitement won't be a disappointment like Follies kinda turned into. I feel like these two are falling into a similar feeling of excitement and vibe. Just me?

You're right, it's big. It's a prestige show directed by a formidable director who could be considered London's It director. It stars the first lady of musical theatre in a role we know she plays well, it's a Sondheim, and it is a timely piece (in this incarnation), brought back with "a message".

You both are so right. Obviously Patti is the main reason that made me book, but as days go by I'm more and more excited about the show itself. I can't wait. The promotion they are doing is excellent.

Whether or not the rewrites work, it looks like the show will sound terrific:
Other than the very obvious change of gender in the list of names being sung, there was another lyrics change that I didn't quite get in Side by Side by Side The original is And lending a shoulder,
Side by side!
One's impossible, two is gloomy,
Give another number to me,but they are now singing And lending a shoulder,
Side by side!
Two's impossible, two is gloomy,
Give another number to me,Curious as to the reason behind that particular shift. Also not enough to know whether the earlier reference 'One is lonely and two is boring, Think what you can keep ignoring' has also been changed to match. My own fault for knowing the score too well that these things leap out at me. Some of tempi seemed very relaxed compared to versions I know from the past. The only one that felt the same was Side by Side by Side. The only bit I didn't like was the change to the 'Do Do Do Do' in You Can Drive a Person Crazy. I appreciate that it was not going to sound like the female original - and that is fine. I just didn't like the rather laid back feel of the new version. Yes, I have particular views on this show and I am only judging on a very short set of extracts - but that is what I spotted on first listen. I am probably more interested in a cast recording than seeing it live - so I can hear the changes in more detail.

Re: the twos impossible, two is gloomy ....that's two different verses. And those lyrics can also be found in the most recently published version of the libretto here

Completely agree, I've been following their instagram account and they're putting out fresh and interesting content each day. Love their Sunday Sondheim celebrations. It's not just great advertising, it's helping to create a huge buzz for those who have already booked. Very impressive.

Read more: theatreboard.co.uk/thread/1950/company?page=40#ixzz5RsRddwQONone of the tempi will be fixed yet. Sitzprobe is the first chance for cast and orchestra to play together, so no surprise if things are a bit tentative. It will find it's own energy once they are in the theatre.

Having participated in a lot of sitzprobes over the years, I know what they are like. I also know that tempi can change. But, on the whole, conductors I have worked with have been reasonably consistent from the rehearsal room through the sitz and onto stage. I was mentioning the tempi not to be critical - just to note that they felt quite different to other versions.

Why is Company not starting an eight-show week until week beginning 22nd October? Why are there several weeks having only six or seven shows? Does it not officially open until that week?

What's the view like at the back of the stalls at the Gielgud? It was fine for the Ferryman I was 3 rows from the back and missed nothing - the overhang didn't stop anything for that show.
