Very curious to see what people think about “Not Getting Married Today”. I’m not sure if it is because he has toned it down on the recording or it doesn’t work as well without the acting visuals but I’m not convinced it has perfectly translated to this audio recording. But so far, very very good. Orchestra sounds a little thinner than I remember but tbh I am used to the OBC. I've listened to a few recordings of that song and I've never been the biggest fan of it in recording form. I do think that specific scene works much more on a visual sense.

Madeline Kahn is one of the few audio recordings of Not Getting Married Today that I think do it justice.

I LOVE the Madeline Kahn version! She's ace.
I seem to have watched a dozen or so different versions on You Tube recently. Julie Andrews singing all the parts is fab. Carol Burnett is my fave though I think.

She is, although for me the definitive one - sorry, Beth Howland - is Veanne Cox on the 1995 Broadway revival album. She nails the sheer terror underpinning the song, she's all the funnier for NOT going completely over-the-top and overplaying the laughs, and her diction is astonishing. I think she's also the only recorded Amy who sings the melody absolutely correctly.
(The clip doesn't credit her, but the soprano is Patricia Ben Peterson.)

I changed my iTunes to Australia and it let me have a listen to all of the previews!
This recording sounds amazing; but from what I gathered of the 1:30 of NGM, it does sound a little 'deflated'.
Nonetheless, I'm so excited to have a full listen!

Some diva will one day record Not Getting Married Today at a dirge-like pace and it might just be spectacular.

Thanks for this. I can most definitely hear melody lines that I don't think I've properly heard on any other version.

I've seen two of the musical interludes, based on a poster on Broadway World, are "the Alice in wonderland-Esque scene transition music, the electronic/techno Company when it transitions into the Night Club with LuPone".

As you say you feel her gradually unravelling rather than being completely over the top - all gurning and goggle-eyed - from the get go.

Hmmm not available for me. I guess I'll need to wait till midnight, UK time. It's now 0030 in Sweden and it's on Spotify! I had trouble finding it, though - ended up going through Rosalie's artist page! Hope you manage to get hold of it sooner rather than later!

I'm not surprised. It's always been a very visual scene for me. A recording for me has never worked, but seeing video of it being performed really sets it alight.

Just had a listen to Not getting married. Sounds great, but definitely needs the staging to accompany the song to give it that energy and humour.
