sf is right - the starting point for Tony eligibility is the first night billing. However there have been quite a few exceptions to that - and producers can request (though not insist) that actors are sometimes considered in categories which run counter to their billing. This has happened a few times - and some make little sense. For example, in the original 1987 production of 'Fences' Mary Alice won Best Featured Actress for playing Rose, while in the 2010 revival Viola Davis won Best Leading Actress for the same role (she then won the Supporting Actress Oscar for the film version!). Likewise Geraldine Page was nominated as Best Leading Actress for playing Madame Arcardi in Blithe Spirit (1987) whilst Angela Lansbury won the Best Featured Actress Tony for the same role in 2009. No consistency at all. I think the billing rules changed slightly after William Daniels turned down a nomination for Best Featured Performance in 1776 where he was John Adams. Here is Rita Moreno winning "Best Featured" performance and not being happy about "supporting"

As I understand it, it's less that the rules have changed - the basic principle is still that performers who are billed above the title are eligible in the leading category and performers billed below the title are eligible as featured - and more that it's become more common for producers to petition to change the category in which a performance will be considered. That is, the basic rule is the same, but it's flexible. And there are still some weird anomalies. For the revival of A Chorus Line, Charlotte d'Amboise was nominated as Best Featured Actress in a Musical for the role in which Donna McKechnie won the award for Leading Actress in a Musical in the original production. In both cases the billing was strictly alphabetical; presumably in 1976 producers petitioned to have the role considered in the Leading category and in 2007 they either didn't or the petition was rejected.

Paragraph 4 has the claim (Note: Before the William Daniels - Yul Brynner won the Tony for "Featured" for "The King and I" Tom Bosley won the Tony for "Featured" for Fiorello! where he played Fiorello. And Dick Van Dyke won "Featured" for "Bye Bye Birdie")

The Box Office people at the Gielgud are so wonderful. My lovely spouse went to the Box Office today on her one day in London. While they were out of day seats, they sold her a very nice center stalls seat for a very nice reduced price. Now, that may have been because she was needing only a single. Even still, it was a very generous and helpful thing to do. And now my wife has bragging privileges since she got to see this show, and I didn't and won't.

The issue it's facing at the moment is the majority of London theatre fans have seen the show, and it's not the kind of show that would stand out to the general public as the one to visit. And tourists are going along with the assumption of Rosalie, Patti and some of the the other cast members going to Broadway with the show, so it's not surprising, especially at this quiet time of year anyway. Good news, for those of us wanting to revisit haha.

I was kind of hoping they'd include the Company 'remix' from the club scene as its unique to this version of the show but it's not on the tracklisting.

I feel like this production needs to be filmed for preservation because it really is outstanding. I saw it last weekend and could not believe what I was seeing. It was awesome.

Just back from seeing a second time tonight- oh my lord this production is amazing as if everyone on this board hasn't raved enough!
Perfect seats, centre Row k. Was able to take in and notice so much more tonight than in the dress.
I like the fact Joanne wears a sparkly black party hat in side by side! And Richard Fleeshman once again looked unreal. The cast were all on top form, especially Rosalie. She 100% deserves every award she's nominated for IMO. She leaves the stage once!!!!! I would be very surprised if she doesn't go to bway with this, it would make her a star!
Seeing this again solidified the fact that Marianne Elliot is a complete and utter genius, I love everything about this show and cannot wait for her to make some more musicals!

quick question, I've just retrieved my programme and inside it states that Not getting married today is sung by Jamie, Paul and Susan. However when I went to see the show it definitely wasn't Daisy Maywood who plays Susan singing all the "bless this day" sections. Is this a misprint or does she normally pop out of the fridge etc?
