I finally saw this last Thursday. I had been very sceptical of this as I must be the only person who didn't like Follies very much last year. But it did truly win me over with Marianne Elliot's refreshing concept of a female Bobbie and all-around great performances. I would agree with the sentiment that it seems impossible now to envision this show with a male lead since it fits perfectly for a woman in her 30s wondering whether to choose the path of coupledom/kids/family or enjoying her freedom as she's done so far. And Rosalie caught that ambiguity perfectly, I could see so much of my own mid-30s-self in her, especially the "Tick Tock" sequence when she pictures her future self. I hope she and Marianne will win every award going on either side of the pond for this terrific reinvention of very dated material.

Could somebody please remind me how to get around the empty seat rule when booking on the Delfont Mackintosh website? I managed it last time and can't work it out now.
There's three seats left rear dress circle for tonight and I want two of them!

Put the one you don't want in your basket in a different browser/your phone, then that should free the other two up to buy. |

Has anybody seen this before? Its fricking hilarious! Anna Kendrick giving her redition of Ladies Who Lunch in the comedy Camp! Vocally she sounds great, but its her acting and over the topness that makes it so ridiculous. 😂😂

Finally got to see the orchestra (fourth time lucky)
Noticed even more little things this time in what really is such a multi layered production. During "What Would We Do Without You" I noticed Bobbie hugging the three as if third wheeling. It seems an obvious thing but I missed it until now (clever) Also Andy doing emergency exit pointing when he is topless in the second half. Very funny. I probably missed this the first time because Mr Fleeshman is in such good shape!
I felt that this was the slickest I've seen the show yet and Patti gave her strongest performance. RISEEEE!
I'll probably see it once more after the festive season. Delfont should have a loyalty card.

Current status? Intermittently singing “another vodka
Stinger” and startling my husband.
Loved this. Had never sat in a box before so it was just a night of treats.
I’ll have to go again before the end of the run.

Bloody loved this, what an incredible production. The gender swaps enhanced it like everyone said. I had a question that the Sondheim experts might be able to answer for me: When Joanne suggests to Bobbi that she should make it with Larry at the end - what happened in the original? did Joanne suggest male bobbi sleep with Larry still or something else? |

Joanne originally propositioned Bobby herself. If you can stream the 2006 Broadway revival cast recording with Raul Esparza, you can hear that entire moment in the track "you have a good third husband, Joanne". |

Bad idea. Changing Bobby means changing everybody - couples swapping genders - if it's going to make sense. Can you see Sorry-Grateful, a male POV song if ever there was one, sung by the wives? Or Not Getting Married Today sung by Paul instead of Amy? Or three men singing You Could Drive a Person Crazy??? Company is virtually a perfect show - why mess with it. Has Sondheim approved? As a post-Company treat to myself* I’ve decided to read this thread from the start. I didn’t know the play at all. We had the Barbara Streisand Sings Broadway album when I was growing up and this was on it, so I was very surprised to learn from this thread that it was originally sung by a man. It’s fascinating to me to see the initial response to the news of the gender-switch and to now know more of the songs you are all talking about and how they did work. *oh, ok, writing deadline avoidance |

Saw this Monday night. It is fantastic and what a cast. The set is also brilliant. Met Patti afterwards at Stage door and she was lovely. Chatting and signing before being whisked away in her blacked out windows black bmw. Even the security man said she was lovely and very funny. Its a shame Mel doesn't do stage door but all the others were great.

Finally saw it. Thought it was very enjoyable but I didn't LOVE it.
Couldn't connect with Bobbie as a character at all. Felt I didn't even really know her by the end of Act I - she was more like a cypher - and that was problematic for me.

Throwing my 2c in, Craig's Being Alive has been a resident earworm for the past fortnight. I agree that it is quite an introspective interpretation but I feel that it works in this revision of the show as it's a reflection of her character throughout. Agree completely. Works for me as well. But very different from other interpretations which can sometimes build up to a feeling of anguish/despair.
I felt her performance of it was admirable and well-delivered, but did I feel for her? did I really care? No.
I should have been moved to tears. I wasn't.

Still think the pot scene is terribly dated and thankfully the gay conversation is no more. It did seem to go on a bit, scenes need to be tighter and perhaps shorter The "pot scene" as you call it is perfectly relatable if you've ever had a session of getting stoned. It was one of my highlights of the show actually, certainly in terms of comedic value.
