Booking all went nice and easily. Short wait for about 10 mins, then in and easy to navigate. Loads of seats available.

OK sorry. I couldnt see that they were NOTICEABLY cheaper (maybe £5 cheaper per ticket for the higher priced tickets). BARGAIN!  |

Was rather painless for me this morning. 5 mins in the Q, then stuck a couple of times, but back button works fine, nothing falls out from the basket (unlike some other booking systems). Prices are adequate (what not to love with £25 front row?) and i love how flexible the auditorium looks (judging by the layouts of the first two productions). Good luck to everyone struggling to book! You'll get through!  |

The new inaugural seasons announcement are Hytner's cohorts n the National, he has just imported the people he worked with at the National to the Bridge, however some of the artistic programme is appealing.
I bought the £15 membership anticipating a big stage was going to open the new theatre, I was wrong and wasted £15.

Also the venue is a large playhouse to start off with and certainly the first 2 productions are playing for a lengthy time (over 2 months), so can only summarise that this venue isn't interested in transferring their productions into the West End.
Would've been good to see them do a musical and really test the accoustics, although Hytner hasn't really got any track record of doing musical, Mias Saigon and Carousel aside.

I'm pretty sure the point of this theatre is to be a commercial theatre presenting new plays. I don't know that they're in a hurry to look at musicals, and if I understand their manifesto correctly, I don't know that they should be.

Does sound like an interesting season but I can't see any of these selling out a 900 seat theatre. Nightfall in particular sounds like the kind of thing the Royal Court (capacity 380) would put on. So Julius Caesar sounds like there will be 250 promenade tickets + 650 seated tickets? I like the warning for the Barney Norris play - "May contain moderate language" Exactly what i thought! Best of british filling that size auditorium with that programming! |

It's not completely clear, but I think they've said they aspire to build up to six new theatres of various dimensions in different locations around London, and transfers from the subsidised sector would feature within that portfolio. The Bridge seems to be intended for their own productions. |

Just seen that NT Live will be showing Julius Caesar as well as Young Marx in the cinemas. How is this likely to impact on ticket sales? I originally thought of going to both of these but may well reconsider now and just go to the cinema instead given the distance I have to travel and the cost of the train fares.

I don't get this idea people have that the NT is lacking for classics. What's Hedda? What's Twelfth Night? What's Chekhov? They can't do all classics all the time, as they also have a responsibility to develop new writing and are one of the theatres that can afford to give a large amount of space and time to new writing, but they're not completely neglecting the classics, though to hear some people talk you'd think they were.

It's not really too hard to comprehend Michael Billington's original point: "Between the new production of Twelfth Night this February and Rufus Norris’s projected Macbeth in the spring of 2018, the only work that acknowledges the past (aside from short runs of Shakespeare for younger audiences in the Dorfman) is a revival of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America (1991-2) and Stephen Sondheim’s Follies (1971). This strikes me as a staggering dereliction of the National’s duty." |

Melodramatic much, Mikey? Well, there are just three new NT productions of reimagined classics in the year ahead, out of over twenty in total. And of those three, one is a 1990s American play and one is a 1970s American musical. That's a pathetically low proportion when the NT used to cite reimagined classics as part of its core work. |

That is over a relatively short period of time though. What about in the 2 years before 12th Night?
We had Amadeus, waste, threepenny opera, Chekov trilogy, Hedda...
Its slanted more towards new work in the next season, but to say 'dereliction of duty' is somewhat of an exaggeration in my view...
