Perhaps we should change the thread title (temporarily) to "This Week I Am No Longer Going To"! Not that I'm short of alternative activities but as for many here, theatre was one of the highlights of my week.
Today I will put on my uniform and go to work in order to get my customers home. Anyone flying today I know must really need to be there, and I know how important it is to get people home and back to their families.
I've been looking forward to this Thursday for months: it was supposed to be the day I go to see Dan Rebellato talking to James Macdonald and Lucy Kirkwood about 'The Welkin'. So many names I admire in one evening, talking about such a terrific play! Saturday was reserved for a second trip to see 'The Welkin', hopefully with a pair of 'fresh' eyes after all the lovely insights on Thursday.
Now, it looks like I'll be home, reading a good book on theatre (on directing, maybe? seems like a sensible choice). Not exactly the same, but what can you do! :)
"Do you believe in anything [Rob]? Not that I can think of just now."
Gosh, Another trip for me. Off to Sydney via Singapore tomorrow, returning the following Sunday (as it stands). Lots of people looking to get home it seems. Strict quarantine in Singapore, not sure about Sydney although would be great to stock up on tim-tams! Thank god for uber eats/grab (and my vast array of super noodles and cereal bars).
Today I was supposed to see Endgame at the Old Vic. Instead I've just watched Ivo van Hove's production on Antigone with Juliette Binoche. It was recorded at he Barbican in 2015 and shown on BBC4 back then.
I should have seen the touring production of Educating Rita at the Rose and Waitress on Thursday and The Welkin today. There was talk of the Educating Rita tour continuing idc but I'll definitely not see the other two now unless there are further productions.
Tonight I should have been at the ROH seeing Swan Lake live for the first time (yes, I know I'm very late!) with Francesca Hayward & Cesar Corrales making their lead role debuts. Instead I watched the Met's Gotterdammerung. The first, & probably last, time I've watched a Ring cycle in 4 days.
