I have a strange love for Nigel Havers and this is defiantly a more interesting cast for my money, feel less sad about giving up my ticket for the Vic now! Me too! I think he would treat me terribly and probably say some casually racist things but I still would.

Both of you should be ashamed of yourselves. I'm guessing he's old enough to be your grandfather!!!

I am a huge fan of Nigel's and yes he was in the 2004 production which I saw at Birmingham Rep. Having met him he is a lovely man and does not deserve the comments above which I hope are tongue in cheek.

The fact we still love him, even if he might be awful, is the best compliment you can give someone.

With the right cast Art could surely have a West End run again, they had some really good casts over the years and the play still stands up well. Towards the end the quality of the casts did diminish - Jamie Theakston being an example.
I saw one of the tours with Nigel Havers in many years ago alongside the sadly now departed Barry Foster and Roger Lloyd Pack.
If it was brought back I wonder what themed casts they might do as casts tended to have some connection or had to be a believable same age.

As you're new to the board it'll probably serve you well to assume most comments are delivered with a hefty dose of humour and sarcasm...

Yes, possibly most, but certainly not all.
How does one distinguish betwixt?

I always love attempts to define the West End. In reality it is defined as theatres within the circumference of a circle whose centre is the intersection of Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road and the length of the radius of which is one yard for each week for which David Garrick was alive. Why people get confused, I have no idea. Would you say Broadway starts in Fulham or Ealing?

I saw this tonight in Newcastle. Rather enjoyable, especially loved Nigel Havers.there is also a part where Yvan comes in and does the most fantastic monologue.
The play itself was great in parts and a bit sloppy in others I thought. I was very surprised to read that this actually won the Tony for Best Play - would never have guessed. Theatre was pretty busy and the audience certainly seemed to enjoy it.

I saw this yesterday afternoon at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin and loved every minute of it! Fantastic cast and the audience loved it, full house I think. Later that evening I bumbed into the lovely Stephen Tompkinson in Grafton Street and we had a little chat, I told him I saw him in the West End with James Fleet and Michael French all those years ago, but was still shocked when he said it was 18 years ago!! I would love to see it back in London and judging by the audience’s response, I think it could do well again in a small theatre.

I saw this today in Glasgow on a total whim when I had a few hours to kill in town and the short running time suited my schedule perfectly. Managed to get a £10 ticket for the Upper Circle minutes before curtain up.
I had no prior knowledge of the play itself. I remember the initial West End run but it went over my head at the time. The cast were strong, especially enjoyed Nigel Havers’ portrayal of the character. But I just felt the story was a bit weak. I didn’t see the correlation between the ‘art’ and the friendship between the three friends. To me, it felt like two shorter stories which were mashed together into the one plot. I’d have liked more cohesion of the two. It all felt a bit forced, especially towards the end.
An enjoyable enough afternoon, but I would’ve felt short changed had I paid any more than a tenner.

The ifficial web offers a newsletter only with not much information online... I only just saw it on the Chichester website, no other dates as far as I can find. Of course I am assuming it is the tour continuing, and not just the 2 weeks in Chi.

Surely not again? Can’t this play be put out to pasture?
