See, Trafalgar Studios do it right... You leave during the show, you don't come back in. Maybe that is what the National should do with this show to stop any issues. The usher made a point of telling me as I came in, so doing that at the National. I thought you mentioned a while back that you'd not been to the National before so how do you know what's done or not done if you leave mid-show to visit the Little Boys' Room? By now, I reckon we're all aware of your views on this subject, not to mention being fully up to speed with your ability to control your bladder like a True Professional. Let's all hope that on the night you attend you'll not be struck down by some Dreadful Affliction of the Urine, when your poor little legs'll be crossing and uncrossing for all they're worth, and you'll be praying and praying that you don't need to leave the show, for shame, and more importantly because Miss Tracie of Bennett hasn't given her showstopping number yet (and for this she'll surely claim her Olivier for Best Supporting Singer of the Campest Song in Show Business) but godamnitt you just have to go. You must leave the show for a quickie. A little wee-wee. And then you struggle to get past all those Serious National Theatre punters who've paid Good Money NOT to be disturbed, and they're all tutting and cussing under their breath. And as you're mid-way draining your lemon, you catch the faintest strain of Miss Tracie caterwauling, "I'm still here... I'M STILL HEEEERRRE!" But you're not. You're not there to hear. You're in the National Theatre bogs. (Not updated for years and years and years...) But the worst is yet to come for the punishment at the National is far, far more severe than denying you re-entry, like they do at the Trafalgar Studios. Do you know what happens to People Like You? They make you watch the rest of the performance on some pitiful little black and white monitor, a bit like the telly your old, old grandmother used to have. And it's right up high, so's you can barely see it. And the picture's all grainy, and the sound it just appalling. Crackly-like. And the ushers stand around you in a circle, a-laughing and a-jeering saying, "You foolish, foolish boy. Why didn't you just hold it in? Just like you told everyone on The Forum to do." And it's at this point you hear the audience going wild with applause. But you've missed it. Oh, Danny Boy... I hope nothing like this happens to you the night you attend. Because if it does I'll surely piss myself laughing! I'm sat at the end of the row dearie, with the door right behind me. I'm good.

Somehow, this didn't stop you arguing that you yourself shouldn't be allowed back in if you needed to nip to the facilities. Oh sorry, I didn't realise that is what you would want me to comment on. Well if you must know how I plan to pee(?), I know its a long show so I intend to pee beforehand, and should I need to pee during the show (which unless something dramatic happens, I won't), then I really wouldn't expect to be let back in and I would actually strongly consider not going back in. I have anxiety, so walking back in, I don't know if I could personally do it. I'd rather watch on a screen or something honestly.
And to make those wishing me a bladder infection before the show, I have a hospital appointment the day before, have my once over, so I should be made aware before I go.

I have a ticket for this tomorrow night. However all the discussions about the lack of an interval are so offputting that I'm not sure I want to go, especially as I'm getting flashbacks to the last time I went to the National, when I had a panic attack during The Light Princess.

Speaking of the interval, do we know yet if they have decided to try one out yet? Or are they sticking to the straight-through for the rest of the run? Because I remember there was talks of trying it and seeing what works best?

I think if they were going to add an interval in, it would have happened by now so I reckon it will stay as it is

Just the thought of that awful 'musical' gives me nightmares. One of the very worst evenings at the NT.

Don't have the time atm to read this entire heated, intense, dramatic discussion, but I don't think you have any reason to be worried - I sat through the show without feeling any discomfort whatsoever and I'm the panic attack queen. I didn't notice anyone else having an issue with the lack of interval either. You'll enjoy the show.

Can you get a seat on an aisle for Follies if you are worried? Would the lack of interval bring an attack on? I'm genuinely interested..

I once swapped seats at the NT with a man who was sitting on the aisle as he was nervous about having to sit in the middle of the row. I had an aisle seat (I always try to get those just in case), but I felt ok that evening and he was looking so embarrassed and eyeing my seat wistfully, so his wife explained the situation, I offered him my seat and no one had a panic attack even though the show we saw wasn't much either (I think it was Everyman)

Is it true that they have now cut the Bolero D'Amour from the ptoduction? Yep, it's gone. (That bit WAS a bit embarrassing to be fair to whoever cut it. Like it had been choreographed an hour or so before the show.)

It may have been embarrassing, but I suspect it was two dancers big moment..... Yes, indeed, but I suspect the creatives are under pressure to get the running time down as they are insisting (rightly) to play without interval, so something has to go. Where to cut? I wouldn't like to be the director that says to Imelda - " so sorry darling, you're doing so well, but the shows a tad long so we'll have to cut that slow number of yours towards the end - Losing My Mind........Imelda please put that knife down.... Imelda it was only a suggestion".

Sorry to the people requesting no more interval/toilet talk, but that was the only thing I heard from the audience members around me last night!
I love this musical, but I'm in the camp of liking but not being bowled over by this production. It did drag at times and, while I get the artistic reasons for no interval, I think a good chunk of the audience would have appreciated the show more with that interruption rather than losing concentration/energy without it. The audience reminded me of the AIA audience - there are a lot of true believers for whom it could never be too long, but for the rest of us a break would have been nice!
Lots of excellent performances; loved all the bits others have highlighted, and Buddy's Blues is always a highlight for me, which was done well here. Missed Country House - one of my faves. Janie Dee seemed to be struggling vocally at first but ended up giving a top performance.
Nothing more to say really. I didn't come out buzzing but I had a really nice evening.

Saw this last night. I was very dissapointed - the singing was generally not the best (many struggled), some parts miscast, too long, needs an interval and I admit I was bored in many parts. 7/10 from me. I soooo wanted to love it! (( the Albert Hall production was much better!

The light princess was horrific so it's not surprising you had a panic attack. Can you get a seat on an aisle for Follies if you are worried? Would the lack of interval bring an attack on? I'm genuinely interested.. No, it's more that if I did have a panic attack then the lack of an interval would mean I wouldn't have any break to walk round, go outside for some air & calm myself down if I was stressing. Also, if I'm already anxious in advance about the lack of an interval then it's not going to help my anxiety levels & it can turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy: I can worry so much about the possibility of having a panic attack that I worry myself into one! Anyway, I've wimped out of going tonight because I've had a headache on & off all day & over 2 hours of not being able to drink anything would only make it worse. I don't think I've entirely got over the nasty cold/throat infection I've had recently. I have another Follies ticket booked for December so I can see it then, when the weather will be that much cooler.

Janie Dee's voice sounded very weak last night (as someone else pointed out) the chap who sings Beautiful Girls I was worried he wasn't going to reach the notes, Tracey Bennett who is super sounded far too raspy, Zizzi Strallen tinny and others too weren't top notch. Sorry it's what I thought. Imelda was good I'll give her that, great control.
