Oh, that is not long at all. Think of it as a film screening, where the whole experience is usually considerably longer and no-one usually has problems there. Yep. Anyone who sat through 'Magnolia' - three hours of my life that flew by like a decade - should have no problem with an intermissionless 'Follies', which will be several years shorter.

Actually, come to think of it, the first half of SRB's King Lear was 2 hours, in those same Olivier seats. Follies will hopefully be more entertaining!

If the women of a particular age can be on stage for that long, hilst singing, dancing and acting, I think you'll be fine for a couple of hours wothout needing to pee and miss something.

are we placing bets as to who will be the first to post tomorrow night? I wouldn't bet on it, but it might be me! I'll wait till I'm home but I'm only 15 mins from the National. I wanted to go later in the run but my friend panicked on the first booking day and took the first date he could find.

I'm hoping that the lack of an interval means that the weird dream i had last night about being at Follies (got tickets for a week on Saturday) is not prophetic. I slept through most of the first half and struggled to find somewhere to buy a can of red bull at the interval, got back late and wasn't allowed in I woke up very sad.

Act I of Glenda's Lear last year was around 2h10 last year I believe - don't think it will be that bad. I imagine none of the people that can hold their bladders ever go to the cinema?! Personally I would prefer an interval, just because it feels more of an occasion and nice to discuss the show halfway through. Also to have a wander through the National.
But I trust all the people that have said an interval is detrimental to the show so I guess I don't mind too much.

Well heaven forbid, the people who can't hold their bladder, if they can't make it through an hour, they may just miss the big "I'm Still Here" number as that falls bang on in the middle of the show!

People seem to be forgetting how often in a cinema screening a lot of patrons go wandering in and out to the loos...and a lot of films are less than two hours nowadays anyway. I still don't see how this is going to be anything other than a lot of people clambering out from mid-row from around the 90 minute mark onwards!

It will be interesting to see if it stays with no interval, or if they will put it in during previews.

Can people really not hold their bladders for that long? It always annoys me when a first act is about to end and someone gets up to go to the toilet, then shuffles back in midway through the closer. I really think, if there is two minutes left, they should just be told to stand at the back. Two hours isn't gonna kill ya! The usual front row has been taken out and replaced with commodes, these are super premium seats and really takes the piss.

I still don't see how this is going to be anything other than a lot of people clambering out from mid-row from around the 90 minute mark onwards! It's for the good of the piece. If people wanna go to the toilet and potentially spoil their own, personal enjoyment of the piece then that's their prerogative. I don't mean to sound harsh, but you can get a programme, and running times are publicised once performances begin, so audience members should really prepare themselves ahead of time for what they are about to experience. If you know there is no interval, go to the bathroom a few minutes before the performance begins, and then go into the theatre. I know there are obviously some medical reasons why this may be an issue, but generally speaking, people are fine for two hours to not pee, so its really the audience members discretion to prepare themselves prior. If its for the good of the piece, don't have an interval. And people can do with that what they will.

I wonder - given that they've specified that the 2hr 10mins running time is specifically for Preview 1, do you think they'll try both with and without an interval through previews and then decide which works best by press night?

I'm going to the second to last preview, the day before the Press Night, so whatever ends up happening at my performance I assume is what is going to happen on Press Night.
I also wonder if this means there will be no printed running time in the programme until after they have opened?

I actually think Tracie is gonna be fabulous. I really loved her in Mrs Henderson Presents, and she was apparently amazing in End of The Rainbow. And it's only one song really isn't it, how much could she f*** it up. Yeah but it's like THE song ya know. THE song. Christ it's *THE* SONG!!! Sitting front row on Saturday (if it ain't cancelled) and sh*t the bed I'm excited. It shouldn't be 'the' song, if it is it goes against the show and the director will have lost control. People who want a cabaret style performance should go see it in a cabaret!

I think considering the amount of old middle class white pensioners who will see this I think it is cruel not to have an interval! Two hours is just too long...... plus a G&T and gossip mid show is fun. (Sad face)

Uh huh, I'm just excited bout the show and looking forward to seeing the song live in context is all, not saying it'll make or break the production. Just exaggerating for effect

... give them the goddamn interval, if it calms people down! I could do with a glass of wine.

The show really would work so much better in one chunk, and surely you can last 140 minutes....just don't drink before hand.

If people wanna go to the toilet and potentially spoil their own, personal enjoyment of the piece then that's their prerogative. Ah but it's not just their own enjoyment they're spoiling, it's that of everyone around them and everyone they have to clamber over and then climb back over to get in again, probably at a hugely inopportune moment. I get the whole "integrity of the piece" argument, but there comes a tipping point where the length is more likely to lead to a restless and repeatedly disrupted audience, and I think 2 hours 10 is unfortunately beyond that, whether it should be or not (which is a completely different question to what is likely to happen in reality).

Not wanting to clang but I was vaguely connected with a private event involving the royal family a few years ago and it was established that no royal ever needs the loo. Seriously. A full 3-course dinner followed by a 70-minute cabaret isn’t a problem for any of them.

I assume the no returning to seats if you leave midway will be enforced? If Imelda can't handle ice clattering, she'll be LOSING HER MIND if people start getting up and coming back in as they please!
