So tomorrow I'm heading into London with my friend, and normally we always have our tickets for shows pre-booked. However, we've decided to have tomorrow as a bit of a "lucky dip" day and just see what we can get on the day from one of those places that sells tickets kind of cheap, which right now I cannot remember the names of.
What I also can't remember is where any of them are located, which is why I'm on here. Are there any of those places you lovely lot can recommend to me?

There's a whole bunch of places around Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Shaftesbury Avenue and the like, but for god's sake, make sure wherever you go for is STAR accredited. www.star.org.uk/ TKTS definitely is, some of the others are, but avoid like the PLAGUE the ones that aren't. Also worth downloading the TodayTix app before heading in? You might find something great on your phone before you even get into the city.

You can always try rocking up to theatre box offices and asking after 'day seats'. Sometimes you can get a bargain that way.

I would definitely use TodayTix - See what they've got, and if availability looks good for a certain show just go straight to the theatre and ask for their day seats. Most shows barring the most popular ones will probably have day seats at a reasonable hour, we've never needed to do the camping overnight/early morning thing

The only one I use aside from TKTS (and actually usually instead of TKTS) is the one inside Leicester Square tube station.

Saw this happening at Half A Sixpence as I walked past a few weeks ago. Some people waiting in line presumably for dayseats but also homeless tents/people there too asking the day seaters for money etc

I'm not surprised this is happening. Perhaps surprised its taken so long. I'd echo what theatremonkey has said about staying strong, having worked with homeless people the advice is always to not give them money. There are teams out there working with them on a daily basis and they genuinely look out for their interests

I haven't day seated for a while so can't comment on that but several times I've been approached by beggars when waiting at stage doors. Being the least charitable person ever I have no problems in saying a firm "no" but it is annoying to have to do so.

Also what can be deceiving you can see a kiosk which is covered from head to toe in Wicked advertisement and advertise half price tickets, so your everyday tourists thinks half price Wicked tickets, so when they walk up to the kiosk I bet they get a hard sell and if they are pushed to sell a half price ticket it would be something like Thiller or Woman in Black but definitely not Wicked.

Definitely echoing the advice to check availability at TKTs or Todaytix then just go to the theatre and ask for dayseats; all but the very biggest shows are likely to have good availability with a few hours' notice, especially during the week.

No, POL. What they normally get is a ticket for "Wicked" - worth £19.50 when they are told it's a £67.50 one. If you use a booth, look for the STAR symbol and all will be well - www.star.org.uk. I guess you see first hand where people have been duped by these people, they go to the show guessing they have a reasonable seat in the stalls and end up sitting at the back of the balcony. It doesn't do London's reputation any good, you would think the mayor would stamp these people out.

But - Look! What's that in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Lego Batman and his sexy young sidekick Sajid!"

Blame Thatcher for this one, you really can. Ticket Agencies used to be regulated, and the only rip-off was the "men in raincoats" outside. De-regulation has been a disaster, I fear. I agree, if someone has a good experience in London, they tell their friends and family and hopefully they will make a trip over, more money in the economy. Conversely if they fill they have been ripped off they tell their friends and family, also it rains all the time, they won't come. Be it theatre tickets, or those extortionate awful paddy cabs, or maybe that reasonable dinner deal, or it was until they get the drinks bill etc. No ones like being ripped off through smoke and mirrors - It should be something the Mayor gets on top off, but then again a tourist being ripped off, doesn't lose votes.

those extortionate awful paddy cabs PEDDY. Unless you know something we don't about O'Uber? It should be something the Mayor gets on top off, but then again a tourist being ripped off, doesn't lose votes. Yep, London's Mayoral attitude to tourists is odd. In New York and other places, tourism is a priority. In London, it just isn't, yet it's vital (which is why us residents accept so much, LOL). Gave a lot more thought about mis-selling of theatre tickets and not selling the ticket for face value. In fact this is actually illegal, the police will do nothing, but Westminister Council will and take it very seriously, but they have to be made aware to take action. I reported a theatre, I am not going to say which one on social media, but want to make people aware of their rights, this theatre would have a sign outside advertising day tickets, but once you rocked up to the box office they just always sold the last one, so I reported it to Westminister Council, who emailed me back and said 'they sent a inspector round and the sign wasn't out, but the inspector had a word with the box office manager about business management and please inform me if you see this again', needless to say the words on business management worked.
