She should follow Ruby Rhod's example on how to sign things:

I have quite a few thoughts after watching that video. To start, she talks about not being able to be out at stage door having conversations with 50-60 when she has a show the next day, well why can't she just have a photo or sign something with every fan and then move on? I don't think many people expect any more than that. Out of experience, I'd have thought that most teenagers are too socially-anxious to even speak to their idols (I could hardly squeeze out "you're a great Glinda" to Suzie Mathers the second time I met her and she's hardly my absolute idol). There could easily be a system (a sign maybe) saying that Carrie will either sign a programme/photo/forehead/whatever after the show or have a selfie and then move on, I think most if not all fans would be satisfied with that, that's all they want from her. There was a similar system to what I described above with Rachel Tucker on her last weekend at Wicked; on the Friday show anyway her husband walked out in front of her saying "please have phones ready to take pictures and programmes out for autographs" so that she didn't get too cold. But despite that, she still spent time listening to girls pouring their hearts out about heartbreak and who knows what (🙄) and made sure she saw everyone. Also Sheridan Smith, I heard that she came out of the stage door at Funny Girl after her first performance back from her absence, the poor woman had been off with stress and exhaustion, coping with her extremely ill dad and all the sh*t those stupid tabloids had been writing about her but she still came out, spending lengthy amounts of time with each fan and even hugging them as she does each night. It needs to be said too (I haven't seen The Addams Family or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang so this is just me assuming sorry) that Elphaba and Fanny Brice are a lot more challening than Wednesday Addams and Truly Scrumptious, I can't think of many roles more challenging than Elphaba and Fanny to be honest. Of course I'm not saying she should come out of stage door every night just because Rachel and Sheridan did, she doesn't owe anyone a stage door experience and it's not part of her job but she should maybe look at those women and how they deal with stage door. Finally, I agree with people who have said it all seems a bit like she's seeking attention. I believe Amber Riley doesn't stage door very often at Dreamgirls after her pneumonia scare which is completely understandable but the difference is when people tweet her about not coming out (which I'd have thought they did, she has a big fanbase of young girls (and boys) because of Glee) she doesn't reply. She ignores and I think this is best. Taking into account that Carrie has already covered this topic numerous times on video/tweets, it does seem this is getting attention seeking now. Sorry for this really long and boring post, just wanted to write my opinion somewhere. And sorry if I've upset any Carrie fans, I do respect her as a performer and respect that she shouldn't have to stage door at all if she doesn't want to. you would not believe what those young girls all talk to her about - when i was at the Les Mis SD, i just wanted a quick photo and be on my way, and for her to have her break between the saturday shows, and there were so many teenage girls waiting - everyone was shoving others away and from the about 30 girls waiting i think a third had to tell her their life story, what problems they have in life and how her videos helped her - i gave up waiting, also because i thought she should finally grab something to eat - why telling a (well) stranger your problems? i bet Carrie is not really interested in 30 peoples problems every day - also, other "normal" SD-goers had no chance to really get a photo or autograph

This won't be a popular view, and yes I know it discriminates against the people who ARE respectful and well behaved at THE stage door but as a practice I'd just stop it. Across the board. Right now. The whole social media thing makes this a totally different ballgame to what it was ten years ago. The spreading of a performer's SD routine via twitter means that it's out of control and it's a matter of time before someone gets hurt. So this is what we're gonna do instead. For the high profile performers/shows we're going to sell a meet and greet add-on option to the ticket. Limited numbers, selected shows that the performers commit to in advance. Meet & Greet Rules:You have purchased 15 seconds to take a selfie and speak to the artist.* The artist is not obligated to speak or answer questions. No autographs, you will be presented with a signed photo# No children under 17. No OAP's. No one who smells. No single middle aged men. Ever. All gifts are to be opened and inspected by security before being presented to the artist. Gifts cannot be returned after inspection. NO TOUCHING THE ARTIST. This includes hugging, poking, grabbing hair and kissing. Some artists will donate the proceeds to their favourite charity. Other performers (Carrie ) will handbag it. * Automated queue management systems/travelators may be used. # The artist reserves the right to use photocopies.
Miss Carrie Hope Fletcher reserves the right to incorporate a mandatory book sale into the festivities. Credit cards accepted. No refunds for the non appearance of the artist.

How will this rule be enforced? I'd like to see the Carrie fans using their 15 seconds. "Hi Carrie you're the best performer I've ever seen I love you your videos changed my life I have depression blah blah no friends blah blah wonderful brilliant I love you emotional needy mess Twitter bad author stunt casting BYE CARRIE"

Did anybody else watch this and think that's seven fans she could have spoken to at stage door in that time?

Limited numbers, selected shows that the performers commit to in advance. 1) How would you define a high profile performer/show? 2) What happens if you bump into a performer on the tube afterwards? Do you have to make an additional payment?

Is it attention seeking? To an extent, yes. But in that case so was Ben Platt's statement the other day. Can't excuse one and not the other. Both are right in what they have to say but I also think they know full well that by publishing videos/statements, they're not going to stop bad stage door behaviour, but they ARE going to receive a ton of complementary tweets and comments from their fans and peers.

At Birmingham Hippodrome after the Addams Family, the company manager came out with Carrie - I don't feel it's other performer's job to "bodyguard" a colleague, if they are leaving together they may wait for them. Often another performer has given a "star" the hurry up if fans are taking too long.
I've discussed the idea of theatre meet and greets, a lot would depend on the venue's layout etc. At some West End shows they have had the star sign and do photos inside the theatre foyer after the show. This allows other performers to depart through a clearer stage door and keeps meet and greet indoors which is better for all concerned. I liked the old signing window that Kevin Spacey used at the Old Vic, that was perfect for a performer's security.
The Meet and Greet Rules are funny but fan girls and London Autograph Dealers may claim discrimination.

A simple "No Clip Boards" rule would get rid of the ebay people.

If the star is ill, do they get a meet and greet with the understudy (no refunds)?

In Carrie Hope Fletcher's defence...
I don't use Twitter and don't really care what some actress I've seen in precisely one production says about, well, anything.
Wait, the defence is coming, bear with...
Does she have a speech impediment? I saw her in LM (she was off on the previous four visits) and she seemed to sing as if she wore braces, or had a lisp. It was quite cute, but unexpected. Her vocals were good, nothing earth shattering, but certainly solid.
And now the defence; she's a very hot young bird, wheeeey!!!!
Am I right lads? *looks around and everyone is gay*
Taxi!

Carrie is an attractive young lady with a nice curvy figure, there are lots more beautiful women in theatre but that's only my opinion.

On a (serious) note of the Meet and Greet comments, I learned at my conference last week that Musical theatre shows in China/Korea are in fact running meet and greets after/before shows- much like at a convention the stars sit at a table and sign autographs in a line for fans. There's a really different way of engaging with fans in these countries which friends of mine have done fascinating research on. But it's interesting that they've found a way to 'work' the intense interest in their stars in that way.

The koreans are very good at milking cash opportunities. There are a few bands with worldwide recognition from there and they charge fortunes for tickets and VIP meet and greets when they appear in western countries. Even more so than western artists who have started to cotton on to that particular cash cow
I do think we could see it in theatre in the not too distant future perhaps initially for big stars with mainstream crossover appeal

I mean on one hand it's obviously cynical money making marketing (which is why despite being a super nerd I hate conventions, plus having grown up with Stage Dooring the whole thing seems really weird to me ANYWAY) But at the same time, if it lets people meet someone they really adore in a controlled way...well I guess it's win-win?

That's what was semi-done for Daniel Radcliffe in R&G Are Dead at the Old Vic. Wasn't a "sit at a table a sign" situ, but it was a meet and greet in the foyer, separate from the stage door. No extra cost, just had to show your ticket to prove you did actually see the show.

On Matinee days at Old Vic, people were told to come back on the evening if they wanted to meet Daniel as holding the event between shows wasn't practical apparently.
David Suchet has done "inside stage door signings" at his last couple of West End shows. Numbers haven't been huge but apparently he preferred this to being stood on street doing it.
Donmar did inside signing for ticket holders with Gillian Anderson a few years back too.
I always thought Harold Pinter Theatre would have been better doing that when big names are there given limited space by SD and that fans can watch multiple exits from by stage door.

David Suchet did this in Sydney a few years ago. There wasn't a huge crowd, but we had to wait outside and then we invited inside individually to a small vestibule for a photo/auto or just a chat. He was very charming and didn't rush us at all, actually taking an interest in our conversation.

Idina Menzel did that when I saw her in Edinburgh a few years ago - orderly queue all around the lobby and she just walked down the line -saved all of us from being out in the cold!

I am a fan of Carrie, however I feel as though she is getting a little defensive on twitter and should calm down and not respond when people tweet her rubbish about now coming to stage door. She is however, happy to meet her fans, but some people are taking it too far with the treatment they are giving her for not coming to stage door and the presents they are giving her, although I know she can't exactly control that.
