Oh god...I hate it when fans pretend to be "friends" with performers. I've met lots of people more than once over the years, but I always realise I'm just a pleb. I find "acquaintance" a useful word under those circumstances. There are actors & singers who I've met a number of times, sometimes exchange tweets with, they might hug me upon meeting at the stage door, etc. but if anyone else waiting at the stage door asks me if I'm friends with such-and-such actor I've just been chatting with I immediately disclaim & say that I'm only acquainted with them. I agree Dawnster, that's a most suitable word.
I have hugged some performers at the stage door, but only special ones! Plus...I'm good at hugs haha!

I'm surprised people have behaved themselves this week...it's wednesday and no report of stage door dramas!

No drama but after I saw Waitress on Saturday (matinee) we dropped by the stage door and the queue was already snaking down the side of the building and then round a corner and into a little alleyway. What a joke. I feel bad for the actors on their dinnerbreak having the wade past so many people! We didn't stay.
I swear stage door never used to be so busy for shows when I was a teen... maybe it'll quiet down in time?

Not bad behaviour but the All About Eve Stage door Saturday was reportedly very busy. My friend lost our other friend (and then gave up waiting) and the queue for Gillian was very long. Of course it was an X Philes fan weekend with David D in town for his concerts.

That's an interesting point talkstageytome as I'm sure the stage doors for certain shows are getting busier and it's not as fun. I do wait for autographs after matinees, but you have to always expect people not to come out between shows...although on some occasions you can be lucky.

I wonder if part of it is driven by social media - the need some have to out-do others they talk to, and the rest down to ebay traders? I think less out do more people are more aware. Back in the day you had to be on a forum like this one, or at least be a regular ish theatre goer. To link to the above, the first time I saw Gillian Anderson in a play an kind usher said “you know she’ll usually sign people’s programmes after” and I had no idea that was a “thing” whereas today you only have to search her name on Instagram (or indeed follow her) to know it is, so naturally more people know about it and do it.

I think social media may have more to do with it, however I think some general rules need to be widely shared!
There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for people screaming, pushing or adopting the "i'm the loudest and am pushing the most so you must talk to me first". What has perpetuated this barbaric behaviour?
On the whole whilst the dealers can agitate things a little, most actors are very good at dealing with them. It's very clear for actors to tell who has and who hasn't seen the show. It's those who are badly behaved "fans" who can mar things. Anyone got a good name for them?

Hugging? I have visions of Liam O'Deary now (a small prize will be given to the first person to get the reference)

Original cast included one of the board's favourite topics after CHF and how much Kat McPhee's face doesn't move a certain Cynthia Erivo.

Shirley it weren’t on for long enough to have an unoriginal one? Oh and one strike for KMP omission. No idea what a CHF is. Was it similar to BHS - bloated & lacking self awareness?

'I Love hugging people I don't know' was the lyric I was thinking of. I'd better find a prize now!

I'll take this as agreement. @hitster, you'll get your hug. You won't know where, or when (though it will likely be at stage door to fit with the theme). No need to thank me

Has everyone really been behaving at the stage door for this long? Well, I'm at a certain Scottish play tomorrow starring s certain actor, and his stalker is in town too. So watch this space.

Not sure where to put this as I could have sworn we had a thread about nice theatre staff but I can't find it and this is about stage doors so I might as well post here.
I had the opposite of drama at Tina tonight - I was the only one there (I just wanted to say a quick thank you to Adrienne Warren for her virtuoso performance as I can't get to see the show again before she leaves) and the stage door staff took pity on me when it started raining and gave me an umbrella, as well as keeping me updated on when Adrienne would be coming out. So huge props to the Aldwych stage door staff!

Nice story by Poster J - I would have thought there would have been more there for Adrienne.
As Ednond De Bergerac at the Birmingham Rep has a good cast, I decided to get the programme signed after the show. There were a few interesting people waiting to see Freddie Fox - a gay couple from Belgium who were on holiday and had come to see the play and a pair of Cantonese or maybe Japanese girls who presented Freddie with a box of luxury teas and had apparently given him flowers the day before.
The Belgium guys just wanted their photo done with Freddie and their programme signed and I only knew they were a couple when I got talking to the first guy and then he introduced me to his husband. The girls were chatting to Freddie for several minutes and he seemed genuinely shocked to receive the luxury teas and he said they were something he liked and they shouldn't have brought them after giving him the flowers which he has apparently put in his apartment he is staying in.

Didn't stay to see the outcome of this but when I came out of Jesus Hopped the A Train at the Young Vic yesterday there were a couple of Doctor Who cosplayers (young guys dressed as William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton!) in the bar. Presumably they'd been to the Doctor Who event at the BFI Southbank that afternoon. Anyway judging by the photos they had with them they were planning to try and get Dervla Kirwan's autograph (she was in a Doctor Who Xmas special).

I had that at the Nash, wondered why the 10th And 11th Doctor were lurking outside the Stage Door, realised it was Doctor Who convention time and Russell Tovey was at the NT

So huge props to the Aldwych stage door staff! Awww that’s nice of them. I’m surprised the stagedoor wasn’t busier but I guess when I went the audience was older than a lot of shows (with quite a few coaches waiting afterwards) and so less inclined to stagedoor.
