Here we go. Another week and a half of exciting sports we'll not see again for another four years.
Right now on Channel 4 they're saying that despite all the worries over funding the mood is very positive in Rio, and tickets are selling. The IPC are even predicting that the Games may actually sell out.

I really hope so. I went to the Paralympic Swimming 4 years ago and was lucky enough to see Ellie Simmonds swim 50 metres. I'll definitely be cheering for her - I would be anyway haha.
I loved the atmosphere in the Olympic Park on the days I went during the Paralympics, I really hope the Cariocas get to experience that too.

I also went to swimming and athletics for the 2012 Paralympics and the atmosphere was amazing. Even better than for the Olympics.

Who's watching the Opening Ceremony? I'm going to keep going as long as I can but probably won't make the end as I have a very early start. Sometimes I wish you could turn the commentators off . . .

The commentary is awful - as is the sound balance with the music in the arena.
Unhappy that C4 is taking breaks during the entry of the athletes - feels very disrespectful

Yeah, and then just listing which ones we've missed during the break. Not great!

I know it is the dull bit - there will be UK viewers who were hoping to catch a glimpse of family/friends/heroes from other countries - and they won't get the chance if they happen to come in during the ads

Exactly. A shame. Surely they could manage a few hours without breaks every four years.
I love the mascot for these games (I liked the Rio Olympics mascot too)!

Where were Josh and Alex just then? I couldn't see them.

I'm loving The Last Leg. Somehow I've managed to overlook it in the past, but I like their irreverent approach to disability.

The series was a huge hit in 2012 too. It's my TV highlight of the day.

I'm pleased to see that Alex Zanardi has won a gold. I remember him driving in Formula 1 back in the 90s.

Strewth. Yesterday we* managed to get ten medals on an hour.
* "We" in the sense of "people who have no connection with me except that we were squirted out of a womb in the same country, mostly".

How emotional was that I was in tears courage and determination that we could all learn from.
Well done to all of them.

Yesterday on The Last Leg they were commenting on how the wheelchair versions of tennis, basketball and rugby are liked by people who don't enjoy the standard versions of those sports, and said something to the effect of "Why does anyone bother standing up?" I find these games far more entertaining than the boring ordinary versions.
Is it OK to think that the wheelchair rugby looks like a bunch of naked daleks having a fight?

Dunno about naked daleks but isn't the wheelchair tennis absorbing?

It amazes me that they can get to the ball in time. Even with two bounces rather than one, the way they can spin round and intercept a ball moving at well over 100 km/h is remarkable.
