People are well aware of satire, but it has to at least be funny and original, not just a rehash of what has already been said (ad infinitum). I liked the one with the little kids keyboard. That was funny.

Like the repop production going into HMT, haha.

Joking aside, it's refreshing to see so many people being vocal about the changes, sticking up for the musicians and generally showing their outrage on Twitter. It generally feels like the consensus here is like CM do what he wants and applaud him for it, where as people seem to be a bit more emotive and defensive over there.

What is and isn't funny is subjective, I guess. That said, the ALW-bot seems a very poor attempt to mimic WestEndProducer. This kind of stuff ages so quickly, particularly if the owners/initiators don't have the creativity to be fresh or different. I did like the tumbleweed.

I found this a very upsetting read. Just think of the send-off that he and Ellen Jackson were imagining they would have after years of service (and not once ever delivering a subpar performance or doing acting by numbers)...only to be dismissed by an associate and not either of the two bosses. And then kept in the dark about the plans like everyone else. His love for this production shone through this interview, particularly his commitment to safeguarding the legacies of the original creatives, which are now being junked as Cameron remakes this show in his image. Some of the best performances I ever saw in that production were actually while Griffiths was resident director. It's just so very sad...and meanwhile the producers are still spouting the 'bigger and better!' nonsense elsewhere.

Might have been a good way of adding some legitimacy to the new production if they could have got a well established, much loved performer such as Philip to come back and endorse it

Might have been a good way of adding some legitimacy to the new production if they could have got a well established, much loved performer such as Philip to come back and endorse it Given his comments in The Stage interview about his commitment to the original vision, I suspect Griffiths wouldn't have particularly rated what they've done with the show. So it's probably for the best...not that that excuses the sheer cruelty and disregard shown by the producers.

Aaaah isn’t she lovely? (nowt wrong with those costumes either! 😌) Absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Her excitement is so endearing and over the moon for her. She's the only reason I would see this show, I've seen her covers of Phantom and her voice is stunning.

You do seem awfully confused. If I recall, something opened in Leicester last year that Cameron has confirmed multiple times is going into Her Majesty's...and the production announcements confirm the original design, direction, and choreography are being "adapted" by the same creative team as the UK tour.

I've seen The Phantom 3 times now. The first time was in Antwerp. I was almost front row and I'll never forget the falling chandelier right above me. The other 2 times were in London. I don't remember that much about the first time in London (other than that my seats were somewhere on the balcony). The second time however, I had the chance to see Scott Davies as the phantom. I will never forget how stunning his performance was. It made me so emotional! So yes, of course I'd love a spectacular rising and falling chandelier, a full orchestra etc. But I have to say that when I go to a show, the actors are probably the most important to me. And seeing that video of Lucy St. Louis made me excited. So I hope one day I can travel to London again and see her, or whoever is playing Christine that day.

We have it from the horses mouth that the chandelier will rise and fall*. And the actors will be wonderful so get travelling to London as soon as you can to see it!
*Shall we all agree to be mature enough to resist the temptation to go round the chandelier discussion again? No one needs to read that. Seriously. No one. Not until it’s been seen.

Just listened to her singing "Wishing ... " on YouTube, which is sung absolutely beautifully.
When I broke what I knew about the casting call earlier in the year, I mentioned the casting of a black actress as Christine was targeted, and will be used a lot in marketing copy. This was always the intention, before any individual had been cast. There was precedent for this, as it was also a directive from CM when casting Cornell John as Javert, in the 2005 Les Mis revamp. Numerous press releases from Cam's PR mentioned the "world first" casting prominently.
Has anyone seen the new production posters/ads? Anything gone up at the theatre, tube - etc?
I really hope they don't make the campaign in bad taste. But it wouldn't surprise me if they did. I have no doubts Lucy St Louis is going to be superb in the role on her own merit.

Grim reading indeed, but no different from every other big business since the Conservatives returned to office. Employment laws were softened to protect the employer and unions lost a lot of their fire power. Getting less people to do more work for a tiny bit more money. It stresses me out every single day at work.

Sounded like the writer, as a much younger and less experienced person, expected to be paid the same rate as a man who had been doing the job for 27 years? I think the departing musician was entitled to his extra £9 per show after that length of tenure. That’s what happens when you stay with an employer for a long time, your pay increases. I’m surprised it was only a £9 difference to be honest. Also every redundancy scheme I know of thats based on the number of years in the job has a cap on the number of weeks pay that will be paid out.
That’s not to say that the MU don’t sound completely useless. But even that’s not unique, the one I’m in is useless too but I keep paying that £20 a month. I do wonder why I bother.

Every emerging statement from cast/crew further advocates and verifies pretty much every post I've made in this thread over the last year. Reading the galling contents of this blog I'd hoped there may have been some reformation here. Predictable responses from the elite undermining the essence of the writing. Remind me why I log on here.

We’ve already had one valued and long standing member leave the forum because every time he stated an opinion in this thread he got jumped on. If people don’t want to hear differing opinions and aren’t able to disagree with those opinions with civility and without the snarky responses then they are indeed on the wrong forum.
