The Oliviers performance actually made me want to see Phantom again, which I haven't done for a couple of years now. Was very surprised and impressed by Forster.

The film just finished on Sky Arts. I wasn't on any forums at the time when it came out but I imagine there was bedlam...?

I loved Peter Jöback's Phantom. I thought he was rather marvellous. I've warmed to Ben Forster since he was Jesus. I'm tempted to go back to Phantom to see him actually. Peter Joback! Now there's a Phantom who could bend me over backwards on me serveringsvagn! Some of these Phantoms are too young, aren't they? And too... erm... fit ? I mean, Little Mickey C was never a real dish, was he?

Blown away again yesterday. Ben really surprised me again, and Celinde is just amazing.

Vocally, Foster is a Karimloo wannabe. But still sounds good and quite thrilling, I have to say. Indeed I think the Phantom mold is rather sexy now. Most of the guys they cast, be it in London or the US tour, are younger strapping types. Occasionally you get the working man Phantom, i.e. John Owen Jones.

I saw this a few weeks ago with Ben in. I think he did a really good job of it and Christine was amazing too.
However I didn't love the whole show and felt pretty underwhelmed by it in all honesty. I've seen many shows and always put off Phantom, then I read similar things from other's who then adored the show. I just found it to be slightly boring at times.

Gerard Butler didn't even looked disfigured, apart from a bit of exposed skull. Plonk a bobble hat on it and there wouldn't have been a problem. I dont look that good on a normal day!

Women of a certain age ADORED Mickey Crawford... He was my celebrity crush when I was about 10 and my parents made me and my sister watch countless reruns of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em! Still love the guy today, but not in that way anymore! I do think he's got a great voice though, and although he's not my favourite phantom (too many 'ghost' noises on the OLC!) he's definitely one of my faves! I'd take him over Gerard Butler any day!

"I'm glad you could love me in spite of my pinkeye!" (stolen from Nostalgia Chick) I love Nostalgia Chick- she recently did a lengthy video analyzing the film and its weaknesses... surprisingly not focusing on the acting but the direction- and it was quite interesting. She has another video of the different Phantom films throughout the years as well leading to the ALW adaptation- good stuff.

I liked her! Apparently Miss Schumacker saw her on TV and was very impressed with her, and tried to give Meg as much screentime as possible within the confines of the libretto.

I suppose she was quite good at waddling along with her feet stuck out at right angles in ballet slippers.

well I've just booked to see this in July as I'm down in London anyway and am intrigued to see Ben's performance. The show is special to me as it was my first West-end experience way back in *cough*1989. Hope it's better than my last experience as it was looking tired, especially during the lake sequence when they didn't use enough dry ice and could see the wheels on the boat

It looked as fresh as ever. It was the performances that were lacklustre.

I was expecting for the film, they would go the full Freddy Krueger (silly me) so I was more than a little disappointed at the eventual reveal) I was expecting for the film they would go the full anything. Great make-up, great singing, great acting, all the way. For some reason quality is forbidden in musical films. We all know that toning everything down makes it more raw and real (kidding, of course not, it makes it silly). Maybe they thought the same for leaving out the make up.
