Even though I usually avoid VR’s in rollercoasters, this one sure sounds intriguing. Love rollercoasters and musicals, never thought I would see both together! The Aerosmith rollercoaster at Disneyland Paris was probably my favourite ride of both parks. Not musical inspired, but the music really added some punch to the experience. Done right, this could be amazing i would be extremely surprised if we don’t get some form of Wicked ride at Universal if the films turn out as big as universal seem to expect them to be… Don’t think that Wicked (the movie) will be that successful, but I can be totally wrong. I quite enjoyed the musical (it was one of my first ones) but I won’t be watching the movie, can’t get over some of the casting choices… But I can see the potential for a ride/themed area around it! Maybe even an whole musical based themed area in the new (if it happens) UK park!

Read the posts upthread. This is explained. Bit blunt, lol. But ah ok sorry, I thought your post with the trailer was the first post on the subject I’m sorry if it came off as blunt theatrefan62. I was dealing with several other forum things at the same time.

I finally managed to catch the new cast. Lily (new to me as I saw Eve last time) is such a beautiful, mature Christine, she plays it really confidently (compared to eve who was very nervous last time) and her voice is crystal clear. Dean looks perfect as the phantom but I think I've been spoilt by seeing James Gant. Deans voice didn't give me any of the power or the chills I wanted. Acting was ok, just nothing blew me away. I hope he grows into it, otherwise it will be a very boring show this year. Joe as Raoul is good, not my favourite, not my worst. Really nice to look at!! Joanna Ampil. Oh dear. I was so excited to see her. Her voice is not an opera singers voice, but I didnt mind that. But there was no comedy. It was like she thought she was playing lady Macbeth. It's Carlotta, there has to be humour, no? Adam Linstead IS Andre! Martin Ball is the best Firmin I've ever seen. Helen Hobson was like a totally different actress to the woman I saw in come from Away, amazing transformation. David as Piangi has become so much funnier than when I last saw him although he must have been ill because some of his notes were a bit weak. And Milly, the new meg is really really young looking which I think is perfect. Other comments are that there is loads of Asian representation which I noticed and enjoyed. There were a couple of fluffed lines which made me giggl. The tempos are still way too fast. It's like the conductor wants to go home! And the sound wasn't the best either, I noticed that at the book of Mormon last month too though. Maybe it's my ears! I enjoyed it though, but might wait until an understudy for Carlotta and the Phantom are on!

I don't think it helps that they amped up Piangi to unbearable measures so she's regularly overshadowed. I agree with Gant, by the way. He should be playing the role full time, he's just outstanding. I do love Joe as Raoul, though.

I haven’t kept on top of it, but Jon Robyns hasn’t been in the role for long, has he? Anyone know if he’s leaving for another project? He's been in it for about a year now, off the top of my head. He did it straight after his run as Valjean in Les Mis.
Edit: originally said two years, but he's only been in it for a year surprisingly!
I wouldn’t be surprised if he turned up in the lead of ‘Natasha,Pierre….’ at The Donmar or Leo Bloom at The Menier.

I do love Joe as Raoul, though. That's unfortunate. I saw Saori Oda as Carlotta in 2021 and thought she was absolutely hilarious and with a gorgeous soprano too. Saw her in Pacific Overtures at the Menier -- thoroughly enjoyed her playful take on the Shogun and Madame. Joana Ampil is a really talented singer but not the best character actor. Saw her Engineer (Sheffield Miss Saigon) and had high hopes for it, but she absolutely missed all the comedic beats and wit the script offered. Found it to be a heavy performance lacking nuance.

I enjoyed it though, but might wait until an understudy for Carlotta and the Phantom are on! I went to see the new cast opening night last week and to see Lily who I haven’t caught yet. She must have been ill or something as Eve was on for Christine instead. This is my third time seeing Eve as Christine and she was as fabulous as the previous occasions. I can’t agree she is nervous but maybe you saw her a while back. She does play the initial two lines of Think Of Me “nervously” but that is in keeping with the role and situation she is playing. It would be very odd if Christine was confident at this point. She made several progressive acting choices throughout, she actually nailed it for me. Her “Wishing” was perfect. Great dancer too which is refreshing given Christine is meant to a ballet dancer. Still would like to catch Lily. I love the idea they are playing very different Christines. It would be disappointing if they were replicas. I think the new cast will grow together. I was surprised about the lack of comedy in the new Carlotta role too but maybe the Directors are steering that? Wasn’t sure about the sound mixing in the first Managers scene either, Carlotta needs to be heard more above the loud male voices in that scene. I did love the new Firman and thought he paired with Andre very well. The previous pairing was also excellent so it must have been hard to achieve this.

Britt Lenting will remain one of my favourite Carlotta's as she brought the comedy back to the role which had been missing for a while. This is disappointing and I wonder why the direction gets changed so much between casts? There are some beautifully comedic moments for Carlotta that lift the musical where needed without her being a 'comedy role'.

Wendy Ferguson IS Carlotta!

I adore Joanna Ampil but Carlotta is written for an opera singer not a musical theatre soprano isn’t she? (These are different things right?)

Just been at Phantom Matinee.
Perfect first half.
Interval eventually lasts over an hour with multiple “apologies for the delay, bars and loos remain open” announcements.
Theatre manager appears. Show cancelled. They wouldn’t say why. “Circumstances beyond our control.”
Wonder what happened. I’ve never had a show cancelled at interval before!

something technical they can't fix maybe? I’m guessing. It’s funny they wouldn’t say technical problem or elaborate though. Just repeatedly “circumstances beyond our control.” Hope cast and crew all ok :-) (Didn’t really bother me too much as seen it a million times. Show looked in great health though!)

Did tonight’s performance go ahead? Seemed to according to Michael Colbourne’s Insta (who was on as Raoul this afternoon despite cast board saying it was Joe!)

Allegedly it was "Just Stop ALW" protesters grumbling about the orchestra. Again.

Been trying the day seats on the official website for a few days now, but never seem to get a confirmation mail. Anyone know what's up with that?

Does this show have any deals at all?

Does this show have any deals at all? Sometimes it dynamically prices down a little bit on the day, although it’s needed to a lot less in the last year and a half or so. The extreme sides of the front row of the grand circle cost the same as the day seats and arguably have a better view than a lot of the back stalls and dress circle seats usually allocated as day seats, in my experience.
