James Hume, Rohan Tickell, Richard Woodford, Olivia Brereton, Celia Graham (https://halle.co.uk/event/three-phantoms/)- how I wish I could've seen Olivia and Celia's Christines live! Also if I'm not mistaken, Earl Carpenter produces this Thanks! I saw all of those in the show proper. Rohan played Piangi and was understudy (essentially second cover) as Phantom. James and Richard were ensemble and understudy Phantom (Woodford was in the Connor tour). Celia was a fairly good Christine back in the day, and I saw her several times with John Owen-Jones and Earl Carpenter.

I wish there was some way I could transfer a Phantom show to you because I ended up seeing Olivia Brereton 3 times & I wasn't that keen on her Christine! Celia Graham I only saw in LND, not in the proper Phantom.

Wow - the prices of Phantom tickets these days... Thank heavens for pals who can sort out decent seats at a decent price. I guess the decision to close/revamp is vindicated through the renewed popularity of this show.

If that’s logic it’s not a version I’m familiar with.

That's all.

Hello. Does anyone know where we're at with the Christine alternate announcement? Paige made her debut almost a year ago, she's already left and we don't know who her replacement is going to be!

Eve Shanu-Wilson, the current 1st cover, posted on her instagram that she will be playing Christine on Thursdays until mid-March, with Lily seemingly taking all other shows. Nothing else yet about an official new cast member.

Quietly increased their day seats to 37.50 or 42.50. Would you be bothered

Not particularly. I got £30 seats on a Monday evening back in December and they were Royal Circle Row E, currently on TodayTix for £115 each. I’d pay these new prices all day long for seats like this again

Meanwhile, the Vienna production opening next month, has standing tickets for £6,85 (8€), available to book in advance for every performance. And dayseats for £13 for students, seniors and other groups. And although it´s the restaged tour, they have a 27-piece orchestra!
The West End is pure greed, isn´t it? They´ve also risen prices for the cheapest seats. And all seats. The seat I paid £79,5 in 2019 is now £135! With half the orchestra and a cast with less prestige (and most likely lower paychecks).

Well people seem to still be paying so why wouldn’t they? The production changed quite a while back now and no matter how much people moan and keep bringing it up, it won’t change anything!

I do think the ticket prices going up is a valid concern. "People are still paying these prices" is not a good enough argument, for the simple reason that we don't know if it's the SAME people. Some people will always be able to afford those prices, while for others, they might be saving up forever and then still not be able to afford the new price. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's greed; I'm sure there must be reasons businesswise and I sincerely hope that the cast and crew are paid their dues. I understand that theatre is expensive to run, and oftentimes there are unprecedented costs that might drive up ticket prices. On the other hand, it is quite understandable on the part of less wealthy theatregoers to complain about this. Yes, tickets are still being sold. But WHOM are they sold to?

I disagree with this. Speaking up against injustices is important (such as the use of COVID as an excuse to sack long serving cast members/musicians/technical crew and cut costs). Having a long term memory is important in calling out future controversies. We learn from our successes and our failures. Phans, such as myself, have two choices: either accept it and continue to see the show, or don’t accept it and don’t go and see the show. It has no bearing on the new show’s success or failure. I know people personally who were treated appallingly by the production. But I still gave the new show a try, and thought it had its soul ripped out with the small orchestra, new lighting and replaced set pieces/costumes. I haven’t been back and that’s my choice. If people choose to go that’s their choice. There is no positive way to spin it for the consumer; regardless of one’s opinion of the artistic merit of the new show, it is brazen shrinkflation in theatre form. Less than half size orchestra, cheaper effects, underwhelming casts in return for higher prices. Pay more, get less. It was the plan all along - in a show which has made hundreds of millions. So yes, I say people are entitled to continue speaking out in a democratic and constructive way and attempts to silence critics as “negative” or “living in the past” is simply an attempt to shut down debate. People will keep bringing it up whether you permit that or not.

I preferred the older version too by the way and agree with you about the lighting and orchestra size being detrimental to the show but the new version isn’t as bad as I expected.I didn’t try to shut down any debate all I said is that they are running a business and attendance is good and costs generally are rising so why wouldn’t they raise prices and also mentioned that moaning about the changes isn’t going to change anything for Phantom now. Of course people can continue speaking out but for me it becomes boring and tedious when it is every other comment from the same people.

I prefer the new version. I thought the old version was a musty dusty relic.

I've not looked into sales closely enough in this situation to be able to quantify this with any confirmation, but higher face value tickets for those who are still willing to pay it (and believe me, there are those - not least the Americans who are USED to prices this high on Broadway) allows for discounts and offers where possible/where needed.

But day seats are supposed to be discounted. An accessible option for those that can’t afford the high prices I think my concern is that it sets a precedent. If every other show followed suit, and raised rush or lottery to around the £50 mark, the west end will become a whole lot more inaccessible to people

Phantom wasn´t part of the OLT New Year Sale, isn´t part of London Theatre Week and is never discounted on TKTS or offers any discount through them or third parties aside from the dayseats. Please do tell us "where possible" is regarding discounts and offers.

Ticket prices for theatre are high and in some cases too high in my opinion but since when was there this requirement for cheap seats to be offered? I always thought it was a nice thing that there were day seats and lotteries but I never felt I or anyone else was entitled to these offers. In my mind it is sort of like me calling out Ferrari because I can’t afford one of their cars. I don’t think it will set a precedent because not all shows will be able to keep the punters coming in with high prices, even Phantom, but since they are businesses and like any other business are there to maximise profit why wouldn’t they set prices at a level where people will still buy them?

Whether or not the seats offered were good value is up for debate, but you can't deny there are tickets being sold for less than face value on the official LW site.

I’ve got TKTS on-the-day once or twice a year for the last 2-3 years or so, usually £50-60 side front stalls. They’re not always there but often enough IME.

For years Phantom didn't offer day seats - even when loads of other shows were doing them. Les Mis still doesn't. And even when Phantom did start, they only used to be for Thursday matinees.
I don't know where the day seats usually are for Phantom, but £42.50 is still a decent price they don't have to offer at all.
They also sell tickets for £37.50, £32.50 and £22.40 on the normal booking site.
