Tim is in it for 6 months. Then a former Javert takes over. Hadley Fraser, Tam Mutu, Jeremy Secomb, David Thaxton. Of those, think Tam would be an outstanding choice. EDIT: Also just seen Tim H's tweet... saying he's only in it until December 8th?

How easy or difficult is it to get discounted tickets for Phantom these days? Impossible?! I believe they do Day Seats only on a Thursday...if that suits you.

I’ve been told both he and the next Phantom are doing 6 months each.

Phantom Day seats are Thursday afternoons only, and yes, you have to turn up when the box office opens - or several hours before during the peak season. Other discounts are rare - Mackintosh sometimes does them, it's usually in Get Into London Theatre and Kidsweek, and there is often a pretty good free dinner or Afternoon Tea offer going with the hotel over the road. There is also dynamic pricing, so check both lwtheatres.com and delfontmackintosh.co.uk in the week before you want to go, as something may happen. Again, not in peak season, though. Thank you kindly. Thurs matinees don't work me! I'll have to keep a weather eye out. Want to see again (first time since 2009) but I'm not paying top dollar!!

Mike and The Mechanics start a tour in mid February so assuming he's still singing for them I wouldn't be surprised if he finishes in December. I saw on Instagram that David Thaxton was taking over in December. Not sure how true that is though.

To add to the monkey’s comments, for the last few years Phantom has been at TKTS less. But it is still there most nights Mon-Thurs at 20-40% discount. I have bought day seats on Thursday matinees (outside of peak dates, school holidays etc) minutes before curtain up. Depending on sales that day, the box office will sell best available anywhere in the theatre for £25 until sold out. I’ve had row D, F and H in stalls and good dress circle seats for this price, all last minute.

Les Mis on the other hand... dress circle standing is normally all I can get on the day, even on a Monday night off-peak and there are no discounts/offers around at all for advance booking. It’s been like this for about 3 years. Used to stroll to TKTS even on a Saturday night and get a 50% discounted seat easily.

Do we think that people introduce their kids to it?

TKTS you have to go to their box office in person, right?

Yes, you do. You can got to tkts.co.uk online to get some idea of what they MAY have in stock up to 7 days ahead, though. Also, I’ve noticed they’ve gotten a lot better at updating their “current” on sale tickets throughout the day. I did a few experiments and the prices and availability largely matched what they actually have. And as tickets/price bands sold out, they were up to date.

Hi I've been a lurker for a while but finally registered. I've booked tickets for Phantom in London in October but having watched the film on the weekend I have a concern. Can anyone tell me if the hanging scene is depicted in the live show? My brother in law recently committed suicide so it is a bit too raw to see it on stage.
Many thanks, Cara

I'm really sorry to hear that.
Yes, that scene is depicted on stage. It's like a couple of seconds, it happens really fast, IIRC.

Yes it’s very brief and features a mannequin from the flies.

Thank you both so much!

Perhaps it’s also worth mentioning that the Phantom’s magical lasso makes a reappearance in the final scene when he uses it on Raoul (as, indeed, he does in the movie.)

In the final scene a character mimes being chosen slowly strangled by a noose.

cara It could be worth having a quick watch of the scenes from the 25th Anniversary performance at the Royal Albert Hall in advance and making the call yourself. The transition to the RAH stage production is different enough not to spoil the London production but the hanging of Bouquet and the Final Lair Lasso are fairly verbatim to give you an idea of what goes on. In fact they beef up the Bouquet scene in the RAH version a little so the London production is less physical.

I have a question about the current London cast.
I think Amy Manford is wonderfully cast, she has the look, poise and sound of a Christine. The tone of her voice has the right balance between innocence and classical strength. This role needs to radiate youth and beauty and is quite difficult to cast but they hit the nail right on its head here.
Without being disrespectful to another performer, it kind of startles me that the first cast Christine, Kelly Mathieson, does not fit the role at all in my opinion. No doubt she is a well trained singer, but the sound of her voice is too mature for the role, too trained, has a color that does not suit the role, and she does not look like a Christine in the slightest. About every chorus girl looks more like a Christine than she does. She is actually the ideal Madame Giry too me, in terms of voice, poise and look. I think this is really a pity, as they feature this lady on the promotion pictures and the commercial etc, which does not reflect well on the show. This is not at all her fault, but I kind of blame the casting directors. She does what she can and she is very talented, just not right for the role.
I have seen the show on Broadway and in London many times (as well as other places in the world) and I have seen many wonderful Christines. A strange thing I noticed that a few years back on Broadway they used to cast Christines that looked and sounded like Madame Giry's too (Rebecca Pitcher for example) and in London they used to cast more truthful to the character. They broke this habit on Broadway with the wonderful Kaley Ann Voorhees, another girl who is a real Christine in my opinion, but now it seems they break the habit in London too, but then the other way around? I really don't understand this.

Anybody seen the new Phantom yet this week? What's he like? Yes I saw his first night so hard to judge on the first performance but there were a few missed notes and cues. Vocally he was nowhere near the strongest Phantom I've seen. He was also very angry, he threw Christine around the stage so much in the finale that I felt myself cringing every time she fell to the floor! I missed the vulnerable side to Phantom. I'm heading back on 4th October to see the U/S Raoul so will get to see how he's changed in the part then.
