When are you going George? You will love the venue. It's very intimate Coming in January, very excited as first time there and hoping that as we're in row C we'll be fully immersed in the action! I love it when you feel connected to the performers though eye connection etc!

Just got tickets for this today as it is my birthday and got this as a present! Can't wait, am so excited but I have NO idea what to expect!! Is it a good show? I hope I'll enjoy it as I love the performers! Also will be first time at Menier, am looking forward. Heard it's very intimate and am in row C so will probably be so lcose to the actors which will be nice! It's a really gorgeous, old school musical. It's so charming with a delightful score and even better, a pretty solid book to boot! I hope that your love of the performers in the show helps you enjoy the show, too, and the Menier is such a cool space, the intimacy really creates an atmosphere like no other (Assassins & Funny Girl are theatrical experiences I'll never forget!) and I'm quite excited for you to experience it for the first time! Can't wait to hear what you think! Oh, and Happy Birthday!!! Thank you theatremadness Glad to hear it's a good show, can't wait! I do like old school musicals and if ignore has a good score then that's great to hear! Yes I love all the performers in the show so that she a bonus!! The intimacy isn't really enticing for me and it will be (I think) my first time in such a small, fringe theatre!!

HPBD George. It's a glorious show, probably one of the most delightful musicals around. The score is not necessarily packed with well known showtunes but it's a truly lovely treat.

Yes, 'delightful' is the perfect word for this show. I'm so looking forward to seeing it myself for that exact reason!

Thank you everyone so much for the birthday wishes!! Just watched the trailer of the recent Broadway show and I love the tunes! Sounds so stylish and judging by what everyone is saying, it sounds really good!

Well hello Dominic! I do think it's going to be a smashing show but I do hope they sort Scarlett's hair out before opening night.

This show is too expensive..... Grrrrrr You say that about every show. No I don't and that's not true. From Harry Potter to School of Rock I think that most shows are priced well. The chocolate factory as a fringe venue, Elf, Hamilton on Broadway and Half a Sixpence I do think are too expensive. Please don't make comments that are not true. Thank you.

With it's £129.50 premiums?

Just got back home. Oh, it was lovely. I had my doubts because I saw the recent Broadway revival (on my laptop) and that was finely imprinted in my head.
It's a completely fresh and independent adaption. First of all, it's a lot more "English" than the recent revival.
Supporting cast is excellent, especially Katherine Kingsley, who is a match and a half to Jane Krakouwski.
The two leads aren't all that spectacular, but Mark Umbers is serviceable. Scarlett Strallen works hard, but I'm afraid she's no comedienne. In a way, she ends up being supporting cast rather than leading lady. Her "Where Is My Shoe" and "Vanilla Ice Cream" were quite unremarkable. Having said that, it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the show.
The set is very nice. There are about four panels that revolve to serve as the interior and exterior of the shop. The interior is rococo and lavish, and quite lavish for such a small small space.
Act I is a lot more enjoyable than Act II, simply because it features the entire ensemble more rather than the two leads. For the longest time I had the biggest grin on my face.
Perfect Christmas musical. Really glad I went, despite having doubts about going this evening.
