Does it seem funny to announce Chris and Ann and not Joe and Kate?

Having seen it years ago with Colin Blakely (excellent) and more recently with David Suchet this hasn't got me automatically stretching for my credit card.

Regardless of the casting, I despair at yet another production of a play which is performed so often. This doesn't apply only to Arthur Miller but to many other well-known playwrights (eg Coward, Ibsen, Pinter and above all Shakespeare). I know there are always people (particularly younger, newer audience members) who have not seen it and some plays may be exam texts, but why on earth not something less frequently seen, either by the same author or another? That still leaves plenty of options without resorting to the obscure or deservedly forgotten work.

I think we sometimes forget the size of the potential theatre audience, and wrongly assume that we should each be interested in every production. As part of the crowd at Roald Dahl's City of the Unexpected at the weekend - one estimate was seventy thousand - I was reminded that we are many!

The casting has put me off, i mean seriously, David Horowitch must be well over seventy! I agree with earlier posters, i like Miller but why the same plays over and over? Why cant someone do Incident at Vichy or the Archbishops Ceiling? His final play Finishing the Picture hasnt even had a UK production😕

It will be half-full at best even for a familiar play like this. It would be empty for Finishing the Picture.

Quite obviously i meant any theatre when i was referring to other Miller plays being put on, not the Rose Kingston! I had high hopes for the Bolton Octagon when that keen Miller enthusiast David Thacker took over a few years ago. But no! While he did put on Miller he shied away from the "lesser" works😕

While he did put on Miller he shied away from the "lesser" works😕 Financial constraints too I suppose. It is the job of the heavily subsidised (Arcola - I'm looking at you) or fringe venues to stage lesser known works. There is a small but dedicated audience in London for them. For example I tried to book for the Noel Coward rarity currently at the Finborough only a day or so after booking opened and it was already sold out. Maybe with Miller getting the rights to produce at a fringe venue is tricky, not sure.

Incident at Vichy was revived off-Broadway last year to a fairly rapturous reception. I don't know its production history here but it would seem to be a good candidate for a revival.

I'm really surprised to hear that, Jan Brock, as I spent days havering over which date to book and checking how far ahead performances were sold out, and even so I had no difficulty booking, albeit not for my initially-preferred date - but that was due to my dithering.

Agree that Penny Downie is superlative in this one. Why is she away from the stage so much recently?

Dare one suggest "paucity of great roles for the slightly older woman"?

This was a good show. Nothing more, nothing less.
David Horovitch could speak up a bit, but nothing was lost. Perhaps a bit mild mannered for my liking. To be honest David Suchet's performance as a hard-nosed Joe stood out so much to me.
Nice to see Alex Waldmann perform again. Not sure whether Chris is right role for him but he played it convincingly.
