Latecomers should never make anyone move. So disturbing. Sit em at the back til interval. I went on a tour of the Wales Millennium Centre and they have a box at the back of the circle that they take all latecomers to. I was very impressed by the box when they showed it to us. A perfect way of bringing them in without disturbing anyone other than, well, other latecomers! |

Latecomers at Harry Potter on Thursday. Usher sent them down the row only for them to realise half way that the seats were occupied. Cue tuts and moans from everyone who had been made to stand up and everyone behind who now couldn't see.

Dear older couple in the second row facing the "stage" at 'Vanities' on Saturday.
I'm not sure if you're aware but in that venue, when you're having your conversation during the show, WE CAN ALL HEAR YOU. In fact, I'm also pretty sure that the three actors hoofing away on stage CAN ALL HEAR YOU too.
Please, do us all a favour and shut the eff up and keep your conversation to the interval or stay at home and watch 'Countryfile'.

Dear lady in glasses at 'Vanities' on Saturday,
Judging by the conversation you were having with the man on the back row regarding the cast's costumes during the interval, I presume that you are linked to the show, which is lovely. The show is very entertaining. However, if you're going to stand in front of someone's seat while you have a conversation and they say "excuse me" so that they can get by and get something out of their bag, it's generally polite to just acknowledge them or merely say "oh I'm sorry" and shuffle along a step or two and not just continue your conversation for as long as you like.

Yesterday night at the Criterion, the lady sitting next to me decides, after a 20 minute interval, that it is a good idea to go to the loo one minute into act two, making everyone stand.

I think all the bad (fangirl) behaviour at In The Heights last night has already been discussed on the topic for the show. But I was sitting next to Samantha Barks at the performance and I just wanted to add... she was impeccably well behaved  |

Wow, sounds like they might need to replace ushers with bouncers.
New one to me tonight: guy sitting next to me constantly chewed his fingernails so loudly, it was like sitting next to an agitated hamster. Dude must have hard nails as well to sustain that level of chewing, unless he was literally chewing his fingers off. Luckily we found a quieter place to sit for the second half.

I think they need to introduce the same multiple warnings about no phones or cameras that we had at Pinewood tonight into theatres as it worked brilliantly. No sign of a phone for 3 hours!

I went to one TV recording where they said if they saw phones out, they'd wipe the whole thing. That definitely worked.

This is the second big incident at Fiddler, I remember reading about the police having to be called another time. I feel awful for the cast and front of house team.

I read all these comments about raucous behaviour and so on at the shows, some absolutely annoying and some make me chuckle, as I wonder how I would have reacted in the same situation but tonight I was simply incensed. I was at the Youth Opera at the Peacock Theatre, not full, but all there to support young singers. Nice production, well costumed and directed. Behind us a constant crackle of what I can only assume was a bag of crisps, a mighty big one at that. In the quiet bits, in the loud bits, crunch and crackle. Then talking!!!! I turned round three times, three times..... the last time making a gesture of despair with hands. It stopped. They had obviously finished the whole bag.

I was at American Idiot yesterday and a family with two kids was sitting behind me. The teenage son was fast asleep in his seat right until the show started. He looked as if he was really bored (or just tired?) but it turned out that he was a huge fan once the show started. He started singing along instantly. I know it is a loud show, but he was singing so loud, I could hear him over the actors. I glared at him several times but that did not seem to help. He was also singing at the quieter parts and even singing along to the female actors. Then he started to explain the plot to his younger sister - talking loudly during quiet scenes. At this point I shushed him. That shut up the explaining but not the singing.
The parents were just sitting there, doing nothing. In one very quiet scene the dad fiddled with his watch, clicking it open and closing it again several times. They were in the third row and clearly visible from the stage...
It was really annoying...

I was at the Color Purple in NY at a matinee a couple of weeks ago (amazing, of course) and as I was returning to my seat after the interval I saw a man being escorted out of the theatre by security, followed closely by his protesting partner. As I went by, an agitated woman said something to the effect of, "He said something racist and I said WHAT and got up and then he hit me." I would have liked to have heard more, but she then said, with a pointed tone, "And mind your business" to the person who asked, so I thought it best to go back to my seat. Everyone was on best behaviour during the actual show, though, at least as far as I could see and hear.
