I do think it's a bit harsh to say Alison shouldn't be allowed back in a theatre.

I certainly don't think she merits celebrity treatment!

Shoutout to the woman who took a phone call in the middle of Donna Anna’s big aria in Don Giovanni at the Met tonight - clearly wasn’t an emergency as she made no attempt to leave, just sat there chatting on the phone. Never seen anything like it…
Plus well done to the parent who thought this production was a good thing to take your 7 year old to - poor girl was clearly in distress pretty much from the murder to the interval.
Never been to the Met before, was rather surprised at how incessant the talking was, very disappointing

As far as the talking, were there no FOH staff around?
I don't know if it's considered as bad as taking phone calls, but when last at the Met (pre-covid) there were two elderly ladies in the row directly in front of us. Sold out performance with Misty Copeland dancing the Queen of Shemakhan in The Golden Cockerel, very high energy audience. After the interval those ladies were sound asleep, and not a gentle sleep, but both snoring loudly. It would have been amusing if it hadn't interfered with some of the more quiet passages of music. A matinee might have better suited their body clocks.

Back when I worked in theatres I did once have to wake a lady up as she was snoring quite loudly during a rather quiet play. It's unusually difficult to deliver the words "I'm sorry Madame but you're snoring." in a professional manner...

I've always thought a prodding stick would be useful for sleepy patrons.

FOH staff did come when the women took her phone call to be fair, but she had been messaging her friend for most of the act by that point and as far I could see weren’t trying to stop anyone from talking (imagine it’s quite difficult with lots of people). At least I didn’t have anyone snoring around me though, that sounds like a whole different problem!

It may be I cursed it, as I was telling my friends before the show started that I've had a run of so many shows where the audience have been impeccably behaved...
I was at Sister Act in Nottingham last night in the stalls and the audience were DREADFUL. Sadly not just a handful of people either. I can't say that Nottingham is usually bad for it, so wasn't expecting it.
About everything that could happen did - Phone alarm went off - Phone ringtone went off (and text noise on another phone) - Guy took pictures/ filmed part of it - The noisiest, lengthier rustling I think I've ever heard, from multiple people, including passing bags along row - Very loud talking (from so far away not possible to shush them!) - Lady on my row fell asleep and was snoring
I was really trying to not let it ruin my enjoyment of the show, but it did. Sadly there weren't ushers to be seen anywhere in the stalls at all.
Ironically, when it came to 'Spread the Love Around', the audience were deadly quiet. Despite the lyrics seeming to invite us to "Get up and join the crowd on the floor!" with barely anyone even clapping along!
I'm going to Titanic later this week and optimistic that it will be a more respectful audience!
Okay rant over.

I have always found the crowds to be very disrespectful, frequently talking during shows, noisy eating and (one of my biggest bugbears), tapping their feet on the ground along to the music especially when the person is sat right behind you!

I certainly don't think she merits celebrity treatment! These "oh look a celebrity is in" promo amuses me.The same with press nights. Does some random actor from Coronation Street saying they enjoyed their free night at the theatre really translate to any extra sales?

Does some random actor from Coronation Street saying they enjoyed their free night at the theatre really translate to any extra sales? And do the celebrities ever say anything uncomplimentary for those filmed interviews? At least with a press review, it's been known for productions to select judiciously to get what seems like good pull quotes: "Like nothing I've ever seen!", "A night I'll never forget!"

Of course they aren't going to say anything bad as they are on a freebie night out with ticket, drinks and after show party thrown in.

I'm surprised they knew where the dressing room was and how he was able to get a camera anywhere near the window, that must have been one long selfie stick.

Doesn't sound so much like a papp as an opportunistic perv. Some people have no shame. Disgusted on behalf of the female cast members.

Went to Hamilton last night, there were two ladies that were seated one seat to the left of me who spent the whole show on their phones showing each other things and chatting. It took me right out of the performance multiple times as their screens kept catching my eye and the constant chatter was annoying. At one point I did reach over the lady seated next to me (who wasn't with me) to tap them and asked them politely to get off the phone. They looked at me then ignored me. I spoke to the lady sitting next to me at the interval who was seated directly next to me and she said she was finding it annoying but didn't want to cause a fuss so I left it.
We were right in the middle of the row so even if ushers noticed, there was no way they could have done anything during the show.
I just don't get behaviour like this.

You know when you have to go to the loo and that involves pushing past everyone, treading on their toes and knocking drinks and phones for six, with a good sneeze and spluttering of crisps…that ( many variations available on request

Lion King in Bristol on Saturday night.
Apart from the rush to the bar / toilets from about 8 people just as Hakuna Matata started, disrupting several rows, special mention to the couple behind who firstly joined in very loudly with the opening notes (before being shushed by several people) , and then spending multiple times checking their phone through act one, which they then dropped under the seat in front ensuring that the person next to me got the 4D experience through the stampede scene. Thankfully they were much better behaved after that.
The children around us were immaculately behaved and engrossed by the whole thing!

Wicked Friday night - I've seen my fair share of terrible behaviour at the AV but this one is my new favourite: lady next to me gets her legs up on the empty seat in front of her (which is bad enough by itself and not the first time I've had this) and proceeds to slather them in body lotion through act 2. People really do seem to think they can behave as if they're in their own living room. Unfortunately my best frosty glares had no effect.

My idea would be for ushers to have permission to use a stick to make people put their feet or legs firmly on the floor.
