In the foyer is indeed odd. I've been asked a few times at stage door after Blood Brothers, just because I was talking to one of the cast, and there are some people who automatically assume anyone coming out of that door is cast, or band, when it's also the theatre staff-entrance and -exit. It’s still odd, but not that odd to be in the foyer as at The Other Palace the foyer is essentially stage door.

I was at the Lyric, Hammy last night for A Doll's House - Elliot Cowan stopped about half way through the first act, said he was very sorry and addressed the front. He asked them to stop turning pages and writing notes and to just watch the play, they'd learn more that way. Lots, and lots of teenagers in.
No other issues, though a woman at the back of the Stalls had the most extraordinary - but seemingly genuine - laugh. Even the most modest of amusing moments turned into a riot as the whole audience waited for her, and then laughed at her laugh. Excellent stuff.

Can I do some bad behaviours outside a show?
Bus on Shaftesbury Avenue up to my hotel in Bloomsbury tonight. I saw a woman chasing three youths in hoodies shouting “THIEVES!!”, someone on the floor getting resuscitation (not bad behaviour but it added to the ambience) and two blokes causing a traffic jam, out of their cars bawling at each other, chests out, nose to nose in the middle of the road whilst filming each other on their phones.
London? No ta 😐

I've been around Shaftesbury Avenue on many an evening and never seen anything like that! There must have been something in the air.

London? No ta 😐 To be fair though that could be pretty much any city centre at night. The last time I saw anybody kicking off I was walking from the Royal Exchange to the Travelodge up the road. A guy who looked like he was sleeping rough ran out of a shop, picked up an open can of something and hurled it back inside at the shopkeeper screaming "I'M NOT A F***IN LIAR YA T**T!"

&Juliet last night. Woman in the stalls had to be told by FOH twice to stop filming. Then, as if she hadn’t noticed this happening right in front of her nose, the woman in the seat behind the first culprit had to be told to stop filming too. Are these people stupid?

Last night at Waitress I was sitting in the front row of the dress circle, and the woman next to me put her ice cream tub directly on top of the little sign on the ledge saying not to put any items on the ledge.
On the same lines, when I was at Six a couple of weeks ago, someone in the front row of the circle must have put their drink on the ledge and spilt it, as someone in the stalls had complained that they were being dripped on.
People really just don’t think sometimes, so they?

Never seen so many restless people in an audience than at &Juliet this afternoon. So many people popping out to the bar/loos. At least 5 or 6 in front of me during the first act. One guy went out with five minutes left of act one and sat back in his seat just as they played the last few notes.

Both the Criterion and The Other Palace have put up signs on the edges of their stages in the last year telling people not to put anything on the stage in response to the large number of selfish audience members who are under the impression the stage is their personal drinks-table-cum-coat-rack. Although some people still seem utterly oblivious of them. Last night at the Criterion the usher had to come & tell a man to remove his drink from the stage. He had placed it right above one of the signs that was mere inches below on the front edge of the stage! Sometimes I really wonder if some people can actually read!

They can read, but they have been told at school again and again that they're *special* as part of the goal of instilling huge self-esteem in everyone.

Which doesn't even work; kids aren't dumb, when they can see that *everyone* is being praised no matter how well they're actually achieving, praise becomes meaningless, and we've ended up with at least one generation of kids who simply will not trust you if you tell them they're doing great unless you've already proven yourself trustworthy and can back up your claim with evidence.

Do we need a separate thread about people who are too Cr+p to Clap?
It's not just rude it goes against the whole Theatre tradition and even the purpose of going to a live event.
(I've posted before about a special place in hell for those who move to the aisles as soon as the performance ends as they are too important to file out as they should. In my experience they are always non clappers)
I'll start David Mellor Hackney Empire 07 10 2019.
(I'm worried that if 'celebrities can get away with such treatment it will become increasingly fashionable)
